Shimmy & Shake
Knitting has been a little slow going lately… other parts of my life have been vying for attention.
Like grad school… and my sister’s wedding planning…
Little Mimi is getting married. In June. She just decided this, for sure, last week. Lolly = Maid of Honor (well, technically Matron, but that sounds disgusting, so Maid it is) It is not like we did not see it coming… her and D-Man have been 2-gether 4-ever. He is already a part of the family, and he is very very far away right now in Iraq.
Mom, Mimi, and Lolly went out last weekend and bought her dress. It is amazingly lovely, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
We also got the pattern for the bridesmaids’ dresses… that’s right, it’s sewing time!

Just imagine the model wearing short sleeves, and there you have it |
Sidenote: after they get married, they are moving to Hawaii, isn’t that rad? *yup*
Yeah, so as I previously stated, not a lot of knitting going on, but I have one thing to show:

Ye olde FCEK cardi makes an appearance. You probably forgot about it, because I nearly did! I worked on this left front panel while watching nerdy TV documentaries (French Revolution, anyone?) It is hard to catch the depth of the cable in the photo. The color in the pic is a little off too, it is more heathery in real life. |
My Green with Envy socks have gained a few more inches, but I began to think that I wanted to wear at least one hand-knitted sweater this winter season, so I changed the focus a little. I will get back to them soon enough…
Wowy zowy, I am totally loving the new Vogue Knitting International! I think that there are at least five things in there that I will definitely knit… so, the inspiration is there, but the time is seriously lacking… anyhow, I love the Intarsia Rose pullover, the Flower Basket (Caryn is hosting a knit-along), and while I love the shawl-collar pullover, I am not sure how it will look on me… and there are a handful of others in the magazine that I love. I find this inspirational and discouraging at the same time… all of these patterns that I adore… but I fear that I will never have time to knit them all. What is a girl to do?
So, add another one to the pile (these are not all of my knitting books, but a goodly amount) and if you look close, you can see all of the notes marking the pages of "Things to Knit"…

TLooks like my dream came true: We are expecting to get 6-12 inches of snow this weekend!T
…but I hope to catch a little bit of time with sweety Heather before it gets too bad…
One more thing… anyone ever order from KnitPicks.com ? Their prices are really great, and I was just curious…

Ooh - a wedding! Even better - not your own! At least for me - I helped my sister plan her big shindig down to the minutia - I was MOH too. I had a beautiful dress (so did she), a gorgeous up-do (so did she), make-up, nails (as did she) and I didn’t have to be the center of attention. So about four years later I eloped! I’ve never regretted it because I’ve always felt I had my (her) wedding. Have fun planning!
I joined the Flower-Basket KAL too! So super chic! (I think I just love the photograph.)
Wow! You’re gonna sew all those dresses?! I’m impressed! The cardi looks cool. I’m a sucker for anything cabled it seems. I’m loving some of the stuff in the new Vogue too…especially the Koigu pants! I’d never have the money to do them, but they are just so funky!
We are supposed to get slammed with the snow this weekend too (somehow I’ve never equated CT with blizzard but that’s what they keep saying) and I’m looking forward to the extra project time.
As for KnitPicks, I’ve never ordered from them myself, but I know people who have (check out Eklectica’s post today) and they have been quite happy. Hope you have a great weekend!
umm knitpicks! can’t go wrong and they’re fast too. actually expecting a package(hopefully tomorrow:). beautiful dresses and love all your wanna knits. have a great weekend! i’m hoping for snow too!can’t wait.
being snowed in knitting is awesome! i was expecting that for this weekend as well, but it seems as though they are now predicting not as much snow for my corner of the world. oh well, i still plan to stay in and knit!! have a great weekend!!
Ordered from knitpicks several times. Gotta love free shipping with over $30 purchases. I ordered last Friday and still haven’t gotten my package yet, but I expect it to be to me on Monday. I’m just not very patient.
Hey there Lolly! A wedding…how exciting!! All that snow this weekend is a good excuse to just stay in and KNIT!!! I ordered from Knitpicks recently, the colors are great…and it only took about four days to get my order (I am in MI and I believe they ship from Ohio). Anyhow, take care and have a good weekend!
I love the BM dresses!! My mom made my dress as well as my BM’s skirts. It is just the best. It will fit you and the rest of her BM exactly. And, you actually might wear it again!! I’m so jealous that they get to live in Hawaii. I didn’t know the new VK was out - it is now my daily mission to go and find it!
oooh! I love the bridesmaids dresses! very pretty! I know what you mean about so much knitting so little time. Almost makes me not want to even look at patterns because I will just want to do things I won’t have time to do. oh well :). Have a great weekend!
Oh, how exciting! Your dress will be lovely.
A June wedding, how exciting. Great choice for bridesmaid dresses. Your sister is so lucky to be moving to Hawaii. The added bonus is you get to visit her there. I wish some one in my family would move there.
Your stack of pattern books looks like mine. I also put little tabs to mark the patterns I would like to make. The scary thing is that there is always new mags and books coming out to add to my list of want to knits.
I started a subscription for Vogue Knitting International. I have been trying to hold my self back from purchasing the latest from the store, hoping mine will arrive soon in the mail. I have heard that the patterns inside the latest issue are great. Love the flower basket.
harumph! I hope you’re happy with the snow, girl! Honestly, I don’t mind it myself, but hubby isn’t too fond of it and he tends to get weather-obsessed. He’s out shoveling everyone out right now!
Lauren-you’ll have fun with the wedding! I was MOH for my sister too and we went with ‘maid’ officially cuz matron sounds so matronly! Enjoy the snow-try to fit in some knitting this weekend!
Those are beautiful dresses for the wedding. And the FCEK cardi looks great so far. I love the color.
The new VK looks so cool. I’ve yet to get my hot little hands on a copy, but I’ve looked at the previews and some of that stuff is so beautiful (the pants, on the other hand…). Too many things I want!
One of the reasons that I like knitting blogs is because there are soooo many things I want to knit, but I know there’s no way I’ll ever be able to knit all of them. So I look at what everyone else has done and it’s kind of like the lame consolation prize. Better than nothing, you know.
*****Let it snow!*****
The dresses for the wedding look so pretty! I haven’t seen that Vogue magazine yet so I’ll be looking for that this week.
*****Let it snow!*****
We got about 12 inches of snow here today, in Michigan. I’m just glad my DH does the shoveling!
And thanks for asking the knitpicks question…suddenly I’m seeing that company everywhere! I’ve just ordered a catalog for now.
I see you have 1000 Great Knitting Motifs. I’ve just ordered this book. Do you like it?
6 inches of snow (added driffs up to 14 in.), it looks like we’ll have a few good days of knitting weather. As for knitpicks.com- I haven’t used them but with the reviews I might have to.
Oh! What pretty dresses! And they can be worn individually after the wedding which is even better.
And Yay! for your FCEK cardi. I love mine. I wear it all the time. Nothing that nice in the newest FCEK. The newest Vogue Knitting you mention, though, IS really nice.
Hi Lovely Lolly -
I actually placed my first order with knitpicks today, so I’ll definitely be posting about the quality once I get the yarn. I picked up enough of their 100% wool for Rogue. For the wopping prices of $19.67 (of course, to avoid paying shipping costs, I had to buy some sock yarn too, heh heh heh).
The bridesmaids dress patterns are lovely, and even if you don’t wear it more than once, it’ll be gorgeous and you will be gorgeous, too!
Have a great week!
Man, I have been missing all of the fun over here! I just updated my bloglines and you’re current baby! The bmaid dresses are beautiful how fun to have such a fabulous celebration ahead of you!
I just got the catalog for knitpics and you’re right their prices are definitely cheap, I just wonder about the quality. You could always just order one skein or something then see how it is.
Congrats to your sister. Those bridesmaids dresses are so beautiful. I’m sure you’ll look great in it! I’d go for the mossy green color, of course that may have to be because green’s my fav. I’m sure purple/blue will look nice too!
Hey Lauren!
How did you like the snow? Oooooh i LOOOVE snow.
I noticed you found Mia’s website (knit play with fire). Shes in Frederick! I’m meeting her on Wed! I’m so excited.
Hope you are having a great week and things are going well with school. Any plans for the super bowl? Maybe I’ll have a get together… let me know what you think.
ooh nice BM dresses!!
