Delightful Delicacies

Published by lolly at 6:48 am under Meetups / Festivals, Tempting

Okay, okay, you talked me in to it! I will make the Flower Basket Shawl (I don’t think it is an accident that every single time I type the name of this shawl, I spell it Flower CASKET Shawl… Dr. Freud?) You all clearly have more confidence in me than I do myself, but like I said before, I will give it a go, and hopefully my results will be as good as the various ones I have seen on the blogs. Thanks for the tips… I will make sure to pass these on to my partners in FBS: Froggy, and Eilene. So I will cast on before too long… maybe early April (oh yeah, that is next week…)

Did anyone see Jenna Adorno on Knitty Gritty last week? It was a good episode, and I really like her designs… however, some comments she said made me think–

…"I design with the petite frame in mind"…

Okay, I have been many things in my life, however, petite has NEVER been one of them. Am I kidding myself that the Tempting sweater will look good on me? I started this about 4 weeks ago, and then frogged because I was a "twisted sister" and my ribbing was very bad. So, take two:

I started it again, and so far so good, considering I am only 2 rows in. I still love this yarn (DB Cashmerino Aran) but I think I will need to extend the sweater for several inches to fit my "not petite" torso. I am not going to give up on this, because it is so pretty… and I have seen some really pretty models out there… (Tara, Amy, and Loz Lauren–check out theirs!)

I had a by-week from my Thursday class, and got to hang out with my girls. We had a very nice time!

Donna, me, Heather, and Eilene. Special thanks to Wendy, the lady at Starbucks who snapped this pic for us! She wants to learn how to knit too… it is a pandemic! :)

We went to Cheeseburgers in Paradise, a Jimmy Buffet dinner place in Pasadena, and had some yummy drinks, and some amazing food. Chocolate nachos! and here is dear Heather with our cute drinks! Mine was this blue thing… forgot the name, and H got a Rum Runner. We got to keep those little sunglasses pins :)
Eilene pulled out her highly-coveted pink Chibi for a special picture. You know you want it!
I am feeling the need for more summer scarves, so I picked up this little ball of Trendsetter Dolcino… any particular stitch pattern suggestions?

I put some more interviews up for some very special girls: Mandy at Yarnageddon,
Nancy at Got Ewe in Stitches, Kimberli of Kimberli New York,Mia at Knit & Play with Fire… looking forward to your answers! I hope I did not miss anyone who wanted to be interviewed… but I am done thinking up questions… it is harder than you think!

Off for a whirlwind early Easter day with the in-laws… and tomorrow we are at my parents. I get to take pictures of my darling nieces! Have a happy weekend, all!

We have a Cheeseburgers in Paradise around the corner - not sure why - can’t imagine there are many Jimmy Buffett fans in Northern New Jersey - especially in my small town - but the mini-cheeseburgers were pretty good!

Have a great Easter - and fun with your nieces! Thanks again for the interview!

  2. Beckyon 26 Mar 2005 at 8:44 am

Lacy! How about a simple drop stitch for that swanky yarn?

    Have a Happy Easter, Lolly!

I’m so glad you’re sticking with Tempting. The design is lovely but we’re not all toothpicks.

  4. Loz Laurenon 26 Mar 2005 at 9:26 am

Have you thought about a long-sleeve Tempting? I think it would be super cute and thought about doing it for mine. I used Dolcino in a rib for the tank in Hip to Knit. I think Becky’s right that a drop stitch would show off the ribbony-ness of it.

  5. froggon 26 Mar 2005 at 9:30 am

oh i saw that episode of knitty gritty and have been thinking of knitting tempting ever since. i’ve got to get some more finishing done before i start anything new (or at least that is what i keep telling myself) and then i may have to knit that too. and so glad to hear that you’re back with FBS. i still need to look at that pattern closely. umm…hope i can do it after i have talked it up so. if not your pals have have left so many great tips that i don’t think it should be too much of a prob. can’t wait to try it. looking forward to seeing you and ei knit it up. oh by the way, i was really diggin’ a lot of those patterns of jenna’s on knitty gritty, but didn’t hear a mention of where many of them were from. i know the knitty and the snb one, but any idea where the others are from? take care and have a great weekend!

  6. Nancyon 26 Mar 2005 at 11:15 am

Wow - great questions! It might actually take me a day or two to write up my answers. :-)

I also saw the knitty gritty episode with Jenna. Her designs are great, although I’m not what I consider petite either. I love both tempting and blaze and would love to make at some point. I can’t wait to see how your tempting comes out!

  7. Monion 26 Mar 2005 at 11:35 am

Hey Lolly! I’ll look forward to your knitting up FBS! I might start on it, too with my alpaca yarn. we’ll see. I have a lot of things going on. I think you should do tempting and I think it would look fabulous on you! I love the color you chose for it.

  8. emyon 26 Mar 2005 at 4:07 pm

Lolly, it’s not that difficult to work on FBS. Just that when you start your patterns on each row, *read* your stitches and you’ll catch on the sequence easier.

Mind you, up to this point, I’m still not quite having a *mistake free* row (except the purl rows) - but they’re always easily salvagable. Just watch your decreases!

    hi precious
where is the flower casket from ?

its so loverly i must needle it
or at least give it a good shot…*wink*

oooh and i love the dolcino stuff
im going to try to convince the store to carry it!
although im not sure what to use it for…
i would probably use the entire ball for fringe
    because im weird that way…..
    heart love heart
    *tiny owl*

  10. Yifaaon 27 Mar 2005 at 6:37 pm

that dolcino yarn is super cool. i have been wanting to make something with ribbony yarn lately, but i keep getting dragged into lacey things… like LUCKY… so i defintely understand how you could commit to the flower basket shawl- it’s just too pretty.

  11. Karmaon 28 Mar 2005 at 12:34 am

Have no fear, you will do just fine with FBS! … Casket.. huh huh! And I agree, you should continue on with Tempting. It’s a pretty design and you chose a gorgeous color. Just ’cause the designer is tiny doesn’t mean the rest of us are! The lines are very universal; it’s going to look smashing on you.

You’re lucky to have such fun knitty friends near you; looks like you always have a great time! Now I have to ask a dumb q: what is a chibi?

    Have a great week!

  12. Amyon 28 Mar 2005 at 4:18 am

    Hi Lolly,

Do Tempting! I am certainly not a petite girl, and I think it looks OK on me. You would look lovely in it I’m sure.

    Have a great day,
    Amy

  13. Eileneon 28 Mar 2005 at 4:41 am

You know I’m looking forward to the FBS. 2 reasons I got the yarn you saw for it…I love the Alpaca (oh sooo soft) & I don’t have to double it to knit the shawl. I hope it won’t be too hard!

Loved those Chocolate nachos & that keylime pie was divine. I’m picky with my Key limes! Hope you had a great Easter weekend. :-)

  14. heatheron 28 Mar 2005 at 5:45 am

I was just looking at the FCEK tempting rip off this am…It was sitting next to my laptop…and made me wonder if you were going to knit it… :) and here it is!

I think it’s so your style..that vintage feminine look! :) Can’t wait to see you in it!

Hope your easter was terrific! Lots to tell! Catch you later!

  15. Erinon 28 Mar 2005 at 7:39 am

You know I just don’t get the whole fascination with the pink chibi. It all just seems silly to me. I can’t believe that anyone would pay $50 or more on something that costs $3. Just gotta laugh. Hope you had a great Easter! And I’m sure tempting will look great on you!

Hi Lolly, hope you had a great Easter! Thanks for commenting on my Tempting :) DEFINITELY stick with it. I think that’s a pretty versatile pattern that will look good on everyone. I could definitely use some more curves b/c the ribbon is the only thing holding mine up! ha! Plus, the color you picked will look so cute on you!

  18. Elizabethon 28 Mar 2005 at 12:06 pm

Hi, Lolly thanks for stopping by. I’m doing great. I hope you are also experiencing Spring there. I like the drop stitch scarf idea. Also found this garter ridge scarf pattern http://www.yarn.com/patterns/freepats/GarterRidge.html
I have some ribbon yarn and I was thinking about tying some “sprigs” of leftover cotton yarns to it and knitting a funky spring scarf. See you.

  19. Annieon 28 Mar 2005 at 1:13 pm

I saw that episode and fell in LOVE with the main sweater they showed. I’m not sure what it would look like on me, though. :/

I hope the FBS turns out for you. I’ll anxiously await more IP pics.

  20. Gracieon 28 Mar 2005 at 2:07 pm

I love the color for your Tempting. I liked the episode of Knitty Gritty as well. I wish they would post the pattern for the purple sweater.

Cute cute drinks! I love Cheeseburger in Paradise. We went there when we were in Maui. It is so fun!

  21. megon 28 Mar 2005 at 2:26 pm

    Lauren,
You know, I saw pictures of yarn harlot’s flower basket shawl, and the yarn she used (http://www.artfibers.com/YARN/catalog/new_wave_2/Chai/chai.html) and i admit that I am planning on making it. can I cast on with you guys? what a fun and excited spring knit! maybe we can make an event out of it and meet up somewhere and make a big ol’ adventure out of it.

    That trendsetter yarn is beautiful…

hope you had a great weekend, talk to you soon!

  22. Siow Chinon 28 Mar 2005 at 6:30 pm

FBS is a great pattern, very well written and easy to follow. I’m sure yours will turn out lovely.

  23. winnieon 28 Mar 2005 at 6:39 pm

Lauren, i found one last copy of Interweave Knits 2004 fall in my LYS. I’m ecstatic. Bought the yarn for it too. You should definitely start another KAL for it. I’d be the first to sign up for it.

  24. eyeleenon 28 Mar 2005 at 8:20 pm

Ooh, I’ve been thinking about Tempting and FBS. I just need time to knit. I can’t wait to see how yours turn out.

  25. michelleon 29 Mar 2005 at 5:33 am

your green scarf & shirt look so good - great pic of you, lauren! is that yarn you bought a ribbon yarn? i’d recommend a drop stitch. but that’s just me - i’m partial to that!

hope you had a great easter weekend! :)

  26. Danaon 29 Mar 2005 at 5:45 am

Hi Lauren! Hope you had a happy Easter! Just wanted to say hi, and don’t give up on Tempting! It’s up to us to boss our knits around, as Bonne Marie would say (lol)!

  27. morganon 29 Mar 2005 at 10:50 am

    Heya Lauren…
Tempting has proven too tempting for me too…I have a 24h train trip coming up (no lie) and thought about giving it a go…I really want to make the FBS as well but I think all that lace knitting might make me train sick. (and uber frustrated). I love that you have knitting friends offline! I just have my granny. (who is awesome) I can’t stop thinking about chocolate nachos now…morganxoxo
    ps casket lol

  28. Aliceon 29 Mar 2005 at 12:18 pm

Hi, Lauren - thanks for visiting my fledgling blog. I’m thinking of making the Flower Basket Shawl, too (I’ve even got the yarn), but I don’t know when I’m going to start, because it’s just so warm here (80 degrees today). Have fun with that lovely pink Dolcino!

  29. elisaon 29 Mar 2005 at 5:36 pm

Darlin, I just wanted to tell you that after the day I’ve had, reading your lovely entry was exactly what I needed. Thanks for being “just what I need” more often than you know.

    xoxo

  30. Laurenon 29 Mar 2005 at 6:51 pm

Hi Lolly- I just saw your carmel macchiato comment on my blog… do you love coffee as much as I do? An even better question- are you also obsessed with Starbucks???

I hope to see pictures of your Flower “Casket” Shawl posted on your blog VERY soon!

    JavaGirl :-)

  31. Amieon 30 Mar 2005 at 3:57 am

Blogger’s been ticking us all off with the comment thing.

The Borders in Columbia has the Harlot now - GB went back and got it for me last night, so I have my copy! Thanks though!

  32. martion 30 Mar 2005 at 7:21 am

that blue cotton is beautiful and i think it will make a most awesome shawl. i haven’t seen the episode of knitty gritty with jenna, but she is a fabulous person and a great knitter.

  33. leahon 30 Mar 2005 at 8:52 am

RYC: The sarong I’m making is actually one from an episode of Knitty Gritty called “Just Beachy.” I did it in all white though, kinda did my own thing on the waist line and didn’t use nearly as many beads as they did (since the once I used were of the danglyer type).

Heh, I’m so not petite either. For that reason I’ll probably never make a sweater or top for myself, just for Itty or friends. I don’t want to invest all this time in something that I won’t be able to wear. Pretty pathetic eh?

Anyway, I absolutely love the yarn you’re using and I wouldn’t give up on it either. You go with your bad self ;)

  34. Ingridon 30 Mar 2005 at 12:33 pm

Go for the Tempting sweater. . and thank goodness that designer is looking out for petites! Small/skinny people are so underrepresented in fashion!
    (sorry! snarky!)
    Ingrid

  35. atouriaon 30 Mar 2005 at 8:14 pm

I love all the photos of you and your friends knitting! Everytime I see them I get jealous, in a good way, of all the fun you must be having! I wish I knew more people that knit.

I can’t wait to see more progress on tempting! I think it will look fabulous. Designs were made to be altered, who cares about that silly designer!

  36. oslofiaon 30 Mar 2005 at 8:31 pm

Hi Lauren…thanks for stopping by my blog =) Wow…it reallyt looks like you girls had a great time!!!

I’ve started on my Lucky Clover (ehhh…twice since I had to frog it). It’s comin out great…so I’ll try to post progress pictures on the KAL site this weekend.

  37. amyon 15 Apr 2005 at 11:41 am

i just had to post because i actually dreamt that i came across a whole load of pink chibis at a store and bought them all to sell at ebay. i was a bit concerned. dreaming about such silly things kinda speaks to my knit obsessed life! :) hope you are doing well. can’t wait till you are back!
