What Can Brown Do For You?
Still. No. Yarn. For. Tempting. Sure, I am a fan of UPS tracking technology, unless it tells me things like this:
- Apr 28, 2005 7:19 P.M.
LAUREL, MD, US DESTINATION SCAN
April 29, 2005 9:26 A.M. LAUREL, MD, US
THE PACKAGE WAS LEFT IN A UPS FACILITY CAUSING THIS DELAY
What can Brown do for me? They can deliver the package instead of leaving it at the warehouse! Come on, Mr. UPS (or Ms.) … I know it was a small insignificant looking package, but inside of it was the glory of DB Cashmerino Aran Pink 602… the lone ball I needed in order to finish my dear Tempting on Friday night to wear to Saturday afternoon’s Super Secret Event. Did you have to go and forget it at the warehouse? I saw you in my neighborhood! Perhaps it would have been faster for me to drive the 8 minutes to Laurel and pick it up myself…
Even though I was not able to debut the hot little Tempting number, we still had a fun time on Saturday afternoon…

Surprise Bridal Shower for Mimi! The really great thing about it? I think she was honestly surprised (she has never been a good liar) and she stood in the doorway after we all yelled and she looked to stunned! Unfortunately, I was not able to get a good photo of that exact moment… but here she is opening her presents. The theme of the party was lingerie, so that turned out quite interesting–thongs, transparent panties, and some token gag gifts, like the ones that Kris and I made the night before… it was a very fun time! Who doesn’t love embarrasing their little sister? |
I was in charge of the games at the party, and I read about this cute game in one of those wedding mags… I was excited to try it… armed with 6 rolls of 2-ply toilet paper, and some visions of grandeur from Project Runway, the girls broke into two teams and made these creations in the seven-minute period (I was a little generous on the time limit):

Daniela, at right, models the traditional gown and veil (she even had a bouquet and jewelry made of TP!), while Sarah (my other sister, making a weird face) models the gown that can only be described as Derelicte… it fell off when she turned around, but she gets an extra point for incorporating a neck scarf into it |

I received my final Secret Pal 4 gift last week, right before the reveal date! Lots of yummy candies, Burt’s Bees (which I adore!) with a Vogue Crochet Scarves book (I am planning to take a class to learn!), some amazing Noro Transitions in Colorway 8, and a wonderful sheepy tape measure! I can’t wait to play with this yarn… maybe a winter hat or some bulky mittens? any ideas? … and today I found out that my Secret Pal 4 was Cheryl! Thank you so much for all that you have done! Just thinking of your kindness puts a big smile on my face. |
…and who was I Secret Pal to? I had so much fun spoiling Beth at Diamonds & Purls! I sent one final gift yesterday (and revealed myself in the e-card) Wonder if she was surprised… The super cool thing is that I get to meet both of the women who I have been Secret Pal to this weekend at the festival: Beth (Secret Pal 4) and Nathania (Secret Pal 3)! I am so excited!
… and let me tell you how much this brightened my day: Crappy week continued, but I came home to a bulky envelope from Michelle in my mailbox… I open it up to find a lovely card signed by her whole "Junior Knitters Club" that I sent yarn to last month! One of the girls, Ashley, made this adorable yarn pin for me! Thank you so much, girls, for brightening my day!

My days of staring at the computer screen writing essays and reports are nearly over… however, they must continue for three more days… until May 5th, the last day of school.
… Kris has been gardening without me… I am not upset at him, I am upset that I cannot be outside hoeing (haha) away, because of CLSC 630 Archives Management. I did get to witness this though…

We bought this egg pod on Ebay (the darndest things, right?) and we got to see these little buggers get born! Welcome to the world praying mantises–go eat the bad bugs now and save our tomato plants! |
Alrighty sweet knitters, Go in Peace

Egg pod? Woah. That’s such a cool thing to buy on Ebay!
I sure hope your last ball for Tempting arrives tomorrow so you can finish soon. After classes are over, of course.
Have a good week!
Do you have any idea how much my girls would love the mantis egg thingee? I must look in to this…
Curse the UPS person!
Happy May Day,
Amy
An egg pod off ebay…that’s so neat!
UPS and the whole mail system in general can be FUN sometimes.
Ok– what a great post! I have to say, I have had that same problem with the men in brown. It stinks… especially when you need it ASAP!
Those praying mantises are awesome! I can’t believe you caught them hatching! Go tomatoes! Have a good night Lolly…
good to see things are winding down for the school year = more knitting time for you! very interesting purchase on ebay - they do sell some strange things don’t they! hope to start some gardening myself soon. just seems that on the weekends it’s always raining in jersey! have fun at the sheep & wool festival. i kinda wanted to go, but i have a busy weekend planned. have to make the rounds for mother’s day! though there is still a chance the boyfriend might want to get out of town…….i’ll keep my fingers crossed!
Five.More.Days.
Do you know about the get together Friday night at Wharf Rats in Baltimore? Here’s a link: http://greatwhitewong.blogspirit.com/ - right sidebar - bottle of Jack - click there.
*shudders* I love praying mantises, but the idea of a whole pod full of babies going through the US postal service gives me the willies.
Love the TP dresses though
M
I would LOVE to check out hatching praying mantises (manti?)… but my sweet baboo has put his foot down. Something to do with living in a small apartment or some such nonsense!
Less than a week!!!!
Looks like the bridal shower was a success! I’m glad she was surprised.
I hope your lost ball of yarn reaches you soon. Maybe it is hanging out with my missing knitpicks order!
Have a fun week!
It seems that Brown hasn’t been doing much for the knit-blog population lately, everybody (including me) has had problems lately. I’m sorry for your left behind ball of much needed yarn, but look on the bright side — at least it wasn’t the “ready to hatch” box of praying mantis that was left over and it hatched in the warehouse. Instead of the cool garden hatching photo we would have gotten a recount of how you had to call an exterminator to remove baby mantis from your livingroom!!
Looks like y’all had a great time this weekend. Love the TP dresses, those are always so much fun.
Wow! the egg pod… on ebay…I’m sure your garden will be great.
The mantis pod is soooo cool! I would never thought to get one on eBay! I hope your yarn comes today…maybe your Tempting will be done for MDS&W.
boy you can get everything on ebay…wow! what fun pics!
Lolly, I am LOVING the bridal shower panties!! Maybe I’ll have to post pics of the pinata I made for my friend - can you guess what shape it is? hee hee.
I hope your yarn for Tempting comes soon since so many of us are dying to see your struttin’ your stuff!
Oh yeah, and that egg thing is kinda creepy….but in a good way. :)~
damn brown.
Looks like you guys had a wonderful time!
Secret Pal4 is over! I forgot to post about that! Very very cool stuff you got! Berts Bees is the Bomb!
yay for Girl Scouting!
Preying mantis’ are good luck and that is so cool! Hopefully they’ll stay put and eat those varmits! :O)
love!
Your sister’s bridal shower looked like so much fun! And all those goodies from your secret pal!
I have to say, I never knew you could buy an egg pond on Ebay… or anywhere for that matter, but what a great idea! Soon you’ll be out frolicing with the mantases, after all, May 5th is only 3 days away… I know this because something special is arriving in the mail for me on the 5th… think early birthday present!
I didn’t know you could buy egg pods on ebay…but I have a strange fear (something from my childhood I think) of praying mantis’, so they are not on my list to bid on ebay!
I feel bad that you haven’t got that ball of yarn yet! I think I may have that colour in my stash…
How COOOL - your Mantis pod! I WANT ONE!!! I suppose it’s too late for this year huh?
When I lived with my folks in NH, we had an apiary. On the years where a hive wouldn’t make it thru the winter, or we decided to add another hive…we would mail-order bees! Let’s just say our wee post office was always glad when we arrived to pick up THAT package. It was always waiting for us OUTSIDE on the back stoop (like anyone would steel it! LOL!)
As for BROWN — I’m a FedEx girl any day…
Here’s to hoping your yarn arrives fast fast fast!
Glad your super party was a success (not that there would be any doubt!) Your SP4 final package looks grand! I’m anxiously awaiting my SP to reveal herself still… Happy Monday!
ohh another zoolander fan, excellent! i LOVE that movie
i took a class last summer in crochet. just yesterday i was at a lys inquiring about classes (i have since forgotten). they charge $60 though, so i sat down with a book last night and practiced. i don’t know why, but i love granny squares
and yeah for school almost being over!
oooo I hate UPS! I’ve been burned by them a couple of times. I hope you get your yarn today!
I can’t believe that gown in the picture on the right was made with TP! lol! It’s really pretty..
Good luck with your papers, lolly-girl! I know you’ll kick ass..Tommorrow is your last day! yay!
Hooray! It’s over (almost)! Your praying mantis extravaganza is fascinating…and creepy. I have a bug thing that I’ll tell you about someday. Can’t wait to see your finished Tempting and get started on mine. I had the urge to organize my stash last night but forced myself to get typing instead. You know what I’ll be doing tonight!
Great news that school is almost finished. Then you can play, play, play in the garden with your bugs. I have to admit that it’s a bit creepy that you can send such things through the mail. I would think that with how crazed things in the states are what with the “terra-ism” and all, such things would be a great no-no.
Creepy-ness aside — I think it’s awesome that you’re going the natural route instead of something hideous like round-up.
Good luck this week — I’m sure you’ll finish up the term like a rock star!
Egg pod? Never heard of it, creepy, yet cool at the same time. I too have been burned by UPS. I’ve never seen that message before, but my favorite is when they mark a package as delivered and don’t bother delivering it. Many a yarn package has been frantically traced due to that message =). What a great briday shower, it looks like everyones having a great time! Happy Day after May Day!
omg! I feel like a total dork! I was looking at April’s calendar when I said that you were done with school tommorrow! sorry about that, lolly! Guess I need to go get some more coffee.
What can brown do for you? I’ll tell what they can do, they can suck it! I’ll send good yarn transport vibes out to you.
I was laughing out loud at those undies you and Kris made and the Derelicte dress. I’m sure the granny panties will be the hit of the wedding night. You really have an eye for unique fashions
Such a fun party! It looks like Mimi had so much fun. My friends and I threw a surprise shower and our friend was so shocked. We had a mexican fiesta and she was definately very confused and thought our friend Rachel just liked to have a good time.
I hope the man in brown shows up at your house soon. I have had some ups and downs with the man in brown (him holding my spindle hostage), but I figure I have to be nice to him so I get my goodies. Maybe leaving him/her some cookies will give us more prompt package delivering…..
wow! i didn’t even know you could get something like an egg pod on ebay!!!
the party looks like fun — and a derelicte mention always cracks me up.
man, i’m sorry that brown is letting you down.
just two more days in the books…hang in there!
I had no idea you could buy things like that on ebay. Were you worried it might hatch on the way? That would have given your postman a shock!
What cute pics! How funny.
I can’t wait to see the debut od Tempting & all the different ribbons on her.
That is so different…an egg pod off of Ebay! I love Praying Mantis’ also.
Wow, an egg pod. I have never heard of such a thing. My husband would have loved that! Pretty cool.
Lolly,
sounds like you threw a great shower. can’t believe you ordered praying mantis eggs on ebay-how funky! at first i thought they were pale spiders all leaving their next, like on charlotte’s web. i will be around in june so let me know when you are heading to the eastern shore and maybe we can do a meet up-i do have to warn you we don’t have any funky LYS/cafes here…but we do have a fun zoo! hope your package arrives soon…
I hope brown has delivered by now? *keeping my fingers crossed*
I love the TP dresses!
That egg pod! I can’t get it out of my mind! I’m fascinated and horrified. Good idea, though.
See you in Maryland?
Ok, everything was going fine, until I saw the picture of the egg pod. Now, I have a serious case of heebie jeebies. What if the package had arrived too late? Then you would have opened a box teeming with mantises! Or is it mantii… Anyway, eughwawawillies!
