THE GOOD

Knitty’s Tempting
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Pink 602Needles: Addi Naturas size 8Started: March 26, 2005Finished: May 2, 2005

Well, as you can see, Brown finally came through… on Monday afternoon, I had the little bitty box sitting on my door step. I was able to put the finishing touches on it late last night, but I am not happy with the pictures, so watch this space to see better pics, k? I also got my ribbons in the mail, although it appears that my favorite one, the brown with white polka dots, is back ordered… hopefully I will get it soon. I am not completely happy with the green ribbon on the sweater above… it is a little too bright. I am going to look for a light pink satin and a white satin one too. Overall, I am pretty happy with this sweater. It was relatively easy to do, once I got that stupid sleeve problem figured out. This was my first garment knit in the round, and I really liked that… very little seaming is always good in my book.

…More Tempting pictures to come this evening… better ones, I promise.

More good news… I finally chose a pattern for my sister’s wedding present…now I need to choose the yarn.

Good Book

Cable Afghan

Cable detail

I am thinking a silk or cotton… any suggestions? Colorwise, I think I like a light green, like the picture, light yellow, or ivory. I will probably not do the tassels, or do them differently… we’ll see. This book has some really cool patterns in it (and a few weird ones) but if you like making afghans, check it out.

…and tomorrow is my last day of school… finally.

THE BAD

We had a death in the family… and the funeral is on Saturday… same day as Sheep & Wool festival. If everything goes as planned, I will be able to make the last few hours of the festival, but nothing can really be certain at this point. I am hoping that I can make it in the morning on Sunday. Who else will be there on Sunday? I know that the majority of people will be there on Saturday… and I hope to make it for a few hours and meet many of you. So, if possible, stick around till the end–then I have a better chance of catching you. Make sure and take plenty of pictures with the Harlot for me… I was really hoping to meet her and officially thank her for that wonderful gift she sent to me last year :( I guess these kind of things are out of everyone’s control…

THE UGLY

I have come down with a nasty virus… or something like that.

So, on that note, I leave you… please email me if you want to meet up on Sunday at the festival.

Oh, Lolly, so sorry to hear about the death in the family…hope you are able to work everything out. You deserve some fun time at the Sheep & Wool Festival-I know you were looking forward to it. On a much happier note, Tempting looks great!! I love the bright ribbon-it just looks so Spring. Can’t wait for more pics. As far as the afghan, a silk would be gorgeous-especially in a light green or pale yellow. I am not sure about the tassels either…with the beautiful cable work on the afghan it is really not neccessary to embellish the ends-but I am sure you will figure something out. Hope you feel better!

Tempting looks wonderful, great job! So sorry to hear your sad news, I’ll be thinking of you and your family. I will be one of the few attending the festival on Sunday, as long as my throat doesn’t get any worse, that is.

  3. heatheron 04 May 2005 at 6:36 am

  7. Amyon 04 May 2005 at 7:11 am

    Good Morning Lolly,

I’m so sorry for you loss. Condolences to you and your family. You look wonderful in the Tempting. That neckline is so flattering on you. I hope you will be able to go to the S&WF. I know you have been looking forward to it.

Tempting is beautiful! I love the green ribbon. The afghan is a wonderful idea for a wedding gift! If you going with cotton…I am using some knitpicks shine right now…it would be really nice…or a DB cotton cashmere? There are some nice cottons out there now. Sorry to hear of the death in your family. It does put a damper on things…but really makes you think about life…I know.
    Hope all goes well!

  9. Bethon 04 May 2005 at 7:45 am

I’ll be at MS&W through Sunday afternoon / early evening. I’m not sure what’s going on for Saturday dinner, but I’m sure we could connect. I’ll try to email you tonight with my cell # and my hotel info so we can work out some details.

    BTW - love the sweater!

  10. Jesson 04 May 2005 at 8:01 am

Thinking of you - and hope you get to that festival, after a tough day supporting relatives! The good news, though, is great: your completed tempting is fab! I think the green ribbon is lovely.

My sister just announced she is getting married next year… so I am planning to go for a shawl. Someone on Knitter’s Review recommended Zephyr yarn (a wool silk combo) and it looks lovely.

    Best

I love Tempting. I like the green ribbon, but I think the polka dot one sounds more exciting. I hope the backorder comes in soon. I’m so sorry for your family and sick situations. I hope things get better soon!

  12. Kateon 04 May 2005 at 8:11 am

Tempting looks great the fit looks wonderful! Hope to see you Saturday, get healthy and take care.

  13. Karmaon 04 May 2005 at 8:14 am

Oh Lolly! Your Tempting is gorgeous! Wow, that color pops. It’s perfect for your coloring. Good job!

I like the afghan you chose for your sis; it’s elegant but cozy. Sometimes those afghans get too busy busy or homemade-y and this is the total opposite.

    Get better soon!

  14. Laurenon 04 May 2005 at 8:20 am

Oh girl, I’m sorry to hear about the family sadness and your sickness. Feel better soon! I ordered 2 1/4″ satin ribbons from j caroline for Tempting. They were a bit big, but fun. I also ordered Fray Check from them to apply to the ends. Tempting is looking great.

  15. Caraon 04 May 2005 at 8:22 am

    Lolly, my sweet Lolly!

    The good is actually FANTASTIC!
    The bad is quite sad.
And the ugly, well, the ugly will hopefully disappear in a few days.

I will do my best to stick around. Will you be down in PA on Friday night? Let me know - maybe we can hook up then!

  16. Miriamon 04 May 2005 at 8:28 am

Sorry to hear you’re sick *hug*
That afghan is beautiful!! You might not want to make it out of a 100% cotton, though. It would be so heavy she might not be able to BREATHE if she wrapped it around herself! Maybe a cotton blended with something? Cotton/Wool? Or cotton/silk would probably be really nice for an afghan.

Your tempting looks fab!! I actually kinda like the green ribbon and I’m not much of a green person. And Yay for the end of school. That is always a good thing. But I’m sorry to hear of the death in your family. Sending you all positive energy to get you through this.

  18. Jackieon 04 May 2005 at 8:42 am

Lauren - so sorry to read your bad news! My prayers go out to your family and I hope the ick goes away fast.
Tempting is beautiful and looks great on you!!
I will be there on Sunday and hope we can meet! :)

  19. kimon 04 May 2005 at 8:51 am

poor lolly!!!! i hope you feel better. tempting looks wonderful!

  20. Erinon 04 May 2005 at 9:07 am

I’m so sorry! Both a death in the family and you missing part of MS&W are horrible. I hope it works out for you and you get to meet everyone you wanted to. I wish I could go, but it’s just not in the cards this year… I’ll be at Rhinebeck though!

That brown ribbon with white polka dots reminds me of that dress Julia Roberts wears in Pretty Woman when they’re at the polo match… sorry, random thought for the day!

  21. tonigirlon 04 May 2005 at 9:13 am

So sorry to hear your loss.

Tempting looks fantastic. I have envy…

  22. kerion 04 May 2005 at 9:18 am

I will be thinking of you and your family and sending my condolences your way. Tempting looks lovely on you, glad to hear brown finally came through. I hope you feel better soon, make yourself a cup of tea, that always helps me =)

  23. Luvtocrafton 04 May 2005 at 9:19 am

Your tempting looks wonderful! So sorry about the loss in your family. I hope you get better soon!

  24. melanieon 04 May 2005 at 9:21 am

Oh no! Good bad and ugly indeed! Tempting looks spectacular, and I love that you can just change the ribbons for a totally different look.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I guess the timing is good and bad, S&W will be a nice pick me up. Feel better soon!

  25. tachaon 04 May 2005 at 9:25 am

Best wishes to you and your family. You finally finished class and bang you get a virus - why is that always the way! take care of yourself. Tempting is looking fabulous.

  26. Heidion 04 May 2005 at 9:34 am

I have a recommendation for the cable afghan: KnitPicks Andean Silk. It would end up being pretty warm because the yarn is 70% alpaca and the rest silk, but it is so drapey and soft. I made a vest out of it and the whole time I was thinking “not garment, but perfect for blanket.”

Plus I might add–it is not expensive! The Lettuce color might be just right.

    Take care!

  27. margeneon 04 May 2005 at 9:40 am

Oh, la la!! Tempting is perfect. You could have any color ribbon and many different looks.
Sorry about the death in your family. Life is always one thing after another that is beyond our control. Hope you enjoy your one day at MSWF, I’m becoming more bitter;-)

  28. sUsAnon 04 May 2005 at 10:26 am

So sorry about the death in your family, Lauren. I will be at MSWF on Sunday afternoon and will look for you. Your Tempting looks fab! Feel better!!!

  29. Chelseaon 04 May 2005 at 10:46 am

Your Tempting looks great! I can’t wait to get started on mine (you’ll have to help with the sleeves). In fact, I may swing by the store on the way home from work and pick up my needles. I’m sorry you’re sick. I hope you feel better soon. I’m not sure what’s up with the MSWF. We’ll discuss Thursday.

  30. meganon 04 May 2005 at 11:02 am

Oh Lolly! I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Take it easy this weekend. I hope you are able to spend some time at the festival too.
While the bad is bad, the good is really amazing! Your Tempting looks fabulous, and I love the afghan choice. I really want to make one someday. I’ll have to pick up your recommended book.
    Take care, Lolly.

  31. Lizon 04 May 2005 at 11:14 am

Your Tempting looks absolutely fabulous! So sorry to hear about your sad news. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.

  32. Monion 04 May 2005 at 11:19 am

Oh lolly! I am so sorry to hear about the death in your family :(. I do hope you can find time for fun this weekend. I know you were looking forward to it.

Tempting is fabulous! It looks so good on you! that color is perfect…

I love the idea of giving an afghan for a wedding present. My grandma did that with all of her grandkids. I’m partial to ivory because that is what I got :). Plus I think it shows off cables really well.

  33. Hollyon 04 May 2005 at 11:24 am

I am so sorry to hear about your bad news. I do hope it all works out. Tempting looks quite fab - I have the yarn in that exact colorway to try it. I’ll be there on Sunday - just keep an eye out for a shortish woman wearing a Knit Happens cap. :)

  34. Taraon 04 May 2005 at 11:28 am

Lolly, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss! I’ll be thinking about you, and I hope you feel better very soon.

  35. Allisonon 04 May 2005 at 11:54 am

Isn’t that always the way of life, you get the good and the bad. Sorry to hear about your loss but at least you have a lovely new Tempting to lift your spirits! Kudos on a job well done!

  36. Dianeon 04 May 2005 at 11:59 am

Oh Lolly–sounds like a tough week. Hope that virus goes away quickly. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Tempting is beautiful! I actually love the color combo of pink and vibrant green–plus it matches your blog site! I am tempted to knit tempting myself, now, after seeing how fabulous it looks on you!

    Take care of your self!
