All About Chronology

I think I work best when I have options… I start new projects, set them aside and start another, then go back because I have a tinge of guilt for shelving the previous project… and the cycle continues. This was the case with Kris’s pullover (many thanks for the comments on it–very easy pattern, perfect for that man in your life).

Applying this to my current state, in chronological order, the next project that I need to finish is my Balmoral cardigan. I picked up the yarn and pattern for this project back in January at All About Yarn in the presence of Heather, her Pixie girl, and Jenna. I started on it soon after, but shelved it in favor of Lucky, and Tempting. Now, I am back on it… full force.

This is the start of the second sleeve. I am working it on some 12" Addi circs, but I think I will move to DPNs soon, as I am not as fearful of them as I once was a mere two months ago. While the 12" are good for some things, the more I increase for the sleeve, the worse it is. Stitches fall off constantly… at least with DPNs, there will be some more needle to hold the stitches.

You may remember that this cardigan is worked in one piece, with the sleeves being attached and then working in a final yoke towards that top. I enjoyed this method on my Tempting, so I am looking forward to that again. I really enjoy knitting this cardigan. It is nearly all stockinette, which I don’t mind. I like being able to get my hands into a rhythm. There are eyelets for the velvet ribbon to be threaded through, which is a very classy touch.

I have been saying it long enough… "I need to try socks…" and now, I am all set. I picked up a simple Fiber Trends pattern, and cast on for some socks last night. The yarn is Trekking. I could not keep my hands off of it at the shop, so I decided to actually make the purchase and try these socks. More progress to come…

Lucky Lolly got to have a great afternoon with Eilene yesterday. We did not get the chance to knit due to space restrictions at the restaurant, but we talked a lot about knitting! She brought along her fancy Rogue cardigan for me to see in person. It is so pretty, and surprisingly soft.

We discussed our future projects, talked about her new DB Cathay that she got in the mail, and had a generally great time eating pasta and sorbet. Thanks, Ei! We are planning to have a knit nite this week, the first one in quite awhile… Donna, Eilene, and me… Heather is still in Mexico, but she will be there in spirit!

Knitting progress may be a little slow in the next few days–my sister’s wedding is next weekend (June 4th), and I am really trying to catch up on a lot of reading now that I have a short break from school. Right now, I am plowing through Time Traveler’s Wife.

Now, off to indulge in my guilty pleasure of reality tv… go Bo Bice!

It feels good to finish sweaters, regardless of when it happens. Balmoral will be great (and it still feels good to work with wool because it’s so cold this May!). I love orange sorbet in oranges. Yum.

Kris’ pullover looks great, and thanks for sharing the wonderful info about him. I still miss you guys!

    Have a terrific week, darlin’!

Your man’s sweater is wonderful! I wish I could get my husband to wear a sweater! Anyhow, I thought I’d say ‘hi’ because I’m getting ready to start on my first sock! Keep us posted!

  4. Gracie

Kris’s sweater looks so great! I know you are so proud!

Balmoral is starting to look good!

Have a great rest of the night!

Lolly, your boy looks so cute in his sweater…well he was pretty cute to start with too.

Don’t be scared of double points. Start with bamboo ones — they grab onto the yarn and the stitches don’t slip off.

I love the yarn for your Balmoral. Your sock yarn is great too. I’ve just got to learn how to knit socks!

  7. eyeleen

Beautiful yarn for your Balmoral. Good Luck with your socks, wonderful colors in that sock yarn.

  8. Cheryl

Good luck with the socks, they’re so fun when you get the hang of them – you’ll be addicted in no time!

I really enjoyed Time Travellors Wife. It is such a good idea for a book.

Good luck with the socks. The yarn looks gorgeous.

  10. Peggy

The Kris is slightly big but it’s so cute! I think sweaters for men look better bigger (versus muscle tee). Good luck with the book! I got huge panda eyes from it!!

  11. Cara

Maybe we should do socks together? I’ve never finished one myself. Love the new yarn.

I agree with Lauren. Cozying up to some wool sounds good right now – it’s freezing! Have a great day!

  12. Christy

I hope you are enjoying The Time Traveler’s Wife. I thought it was just wonderful!

Oh that sorbet looks so yummy!! I’ve never watch American Idol but a friend of ours was over last night who watches it so we obliged. I’m all about Bo Bice (Though I kept calling him Bill-Bo) I voted for him a few times last night… we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

  14. Eilene

I’m so glad your knitting Balmoral again. I can’t wait to see that sweater. Love the yarn.

Looking forward to tomorrow night! That is a cute pic of us!!

  15. Tara

I totally agree – absence makes the heart grow fonder! I’m so happy to be knitting on Lucky since we’ve had some time apart. Have I told you a bazillion times yet that I love the color you picked for Balmoral? :)

Go Lolly in finishing up some neglected projects. I think that’s next on my list as soon as I finish this Dale sweater.

  17. Moni

So glad you and ei got to go hang out! It’s always fun to chat about knitting with a girlfried, isn’t it? I can’t wait to see your Balmoral cardi..I am loving the colors in that yarn!

  18. Donna

Hey Lolly :0) Congrats on finishing Kris’s sweater! It looks great on him. And what incredible underwater photos..wow!
You’ll be finished Balmoral in no time and you’ll be especially happy come fall when you have that beautiful sweater to wear! Can’t wait to see you tomorrow! Are you bringing socks or Balmoral to knit?

  19. Dani

I feel your pain with the project starting/finishing thing. I definitely get into project envy mode and constantly want to start something new… I found it helpful to limit myself to only 4 project at a time… That way, I force myself to finish something before I start a new one.

Isn’t Trekking fabulous! I ordered a skein of it a few weeks ago and it came over the weekend while I was out of town. I cast on last night for another pair of socks and then had to rip after one round (I twisted… whoops!).

Thanks for all those pictures like usual!

Hi! The Bernat Denim Pullover looks GREAT! I’m planning to use that yarn to make a sweater for my son. I love the way it looks when it’s knit up! :)

I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife. It was a fantastic story and very well written, I think. Enjoy!! :)

  21. Yifaa

you have super busy- the guy’s sweater looks very nice- the new yarn looks lovely.
i feel like i’ve taken a years break from the online world. but really it’s been about one week, and i’m back now. can’t wait to see what’s finished next!

  22. Lauren

Love your sock yarn! Can’t wait to see the progress. :-)

  23. Jenn

I love the yarn for Balmoral! Doesn’t it suck that Bo didn’t win?(hope this isn’t a spoiler for you, despite it’s been over for hours…I TiVo’d it). I felt bad for Carrie, because up until last night, everyone was completely certain Bo would win, and that can’t make Carrie want to go perform, you know? I have no doubt we’ll see Bo in the future though…he was way too well liked to just not do anything.

  24. jacqueline

Socks are like a bad drug…once tried you can never go back.

  25. jill

I love Trekking sock yarn. I bought my first ball two weeks ago and I think I may grab another one tonight :)

  26. marti

i have a pair of socks that my mom knit me out of trekking and they are pretty darn nice. i think you will enjoy yours.
