Lolly’s Got a Brand New Bag

Published by lolly at 8:47 am under Trekking XXL 101

Many thanks for the comments on my sister’s birthday present Seaweed sarong! Small quickie projects are very addicting–I finish up one, and I have already started another! While reading and doing some homework, I cast on for this Trellising Market Bag with some Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton that has been in my stash as long as I have had a "stash".

The easy lace eyelet pattern is working up quickly in doubled yarn and size 15 needles. The bag will be perfect for trips to the farmers’ market, and even for my books and school notebooks.

Unfortunately the pattern I am working from does not have a complete picture of the bag, but you can see a finished one at Jane’s blog. She made one last week and already gifted it away.

(Updated to add: the pattern is a product of Koenig Farm Spinnery, who were at the MDS&W festival–unfortunately I cannot find this exact pattern for the "Knitted Trellising Market Bag" on their website, but it may still be downloaded/ordered if you contact them by their email or phone numbers at the bottom of their webpage)

After a long hiatus on my part (due to classes for school), I met up with the Knit Nite girls last night for a fun dinner and a little knit time. It has been over two months since all four of us were together. We ate at my favorite restaurant (where I got my favorite soup) and had some time to catch up on stories.

Pixie and Heather, Donna and her great new knitting bag, and Ei modeling her nearly finished Birch.

Donna, me and Heather all have socky WIPs going on right now–both of theirs are in the lovely Tess yarns purchased at MDS&W, and my sock is in Trekking XXL. Here comes the Sock Parade.

… Today is my sister’s birthday, and this is the first time I will not be able to actually celebrate it with her… but I will send that belated birthday sarong!

On the other side of the world, in the middle of the blue Pacific, my Mimi sis turns 22. A very happy birthday to you! I love and miss you and can’t wait till our trip in October!

Your bag will be awesome (and very useful, which is always a good thing). It looks like you ladies had another wonderful time. Happy birthday to your sister.

  21. Lizon 12 Jul 2005 at 8:31 pm

Looks like your bag is coming along wonderfully. So is your socks. Ialways find socks fun to knit. Hope you are having fun!

  22. Libbyon 12 Jul 2005 at 10:45 pm

Lovely sarong. Fast knitting is quite addictive.

Oh, and I love La Madeleine. I moved away from New Orleans (where they have one on every corner) a few years ago to the La Madeleine lacking midwest. I buy the jars of tomato basil soup whenever I’m down there. My absolute favorite.

That bag is going to be really nice.

  23. Tamon 13 Jul 2005 at 12:27 am

Love the market bag! I can picture it full of towels and other beach stuff. Not that I need to picture any more projects–the list is already long as is the norm I’m sure. Anyway, I can’t wait to see your finished market bag! =)

  24. meganon 13 Jul 2005 at 7:56 am

Oooh, love that bag! I definitely have to make it to Maryland Sheep and Wool next year - I’ve seen so many great purchases from people who went! Thanks for sharing your knit nite pictures. Looks like so much fun!

  25. Wandaon 13 Jul 2005 at 8:42 am

Happy belated birthday to your sis. You guys look so much alike. Looks like much fun was had at KnitNite with all the usual suspects!

  26. sUsAnon 13 Jul 2005 at 11:31 am

I LOVE La Mad’s!!!! We don’t have one close around here (sob!). My fave is the Caesar Chix salad-mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! The seaweed sarong looks maaaaaaavelous!

  27. Vickion 13 Jul 2005 at 12:21 pm

Happy Birthday Mimi sis!! :-) Sigh…22. Good times. :-) The Seaweed Sarong is the perfect gift. I love that you finished it up in a day - that is my kind of project. And it looks lovely on Miss Jenny as well - you may want to think about knitting one up just for her. ;-) The trellising bag is going to be very nice too - I love using stash on a new project. Ei’s birch is gorgeous.

  28. carolynon 13 Jul 2005 at 12:38 pm

Hey, I love that bag! It is so wonderful that you meet with the ladies who happen to be other bloggers!

  29. biglugon 13 Jul 2005 at 3:27 pm

Hey, that bag looks like fun! Sounds like you have a lot of great knitting going on!

  30. Sarahon 13 Jul 2005 at 4:06 pm

Mmmmm, tomato basil. Yummy. Corner Bakery has a mean tomato basil too…sadly I don’t have a La Madeleine close to me. Sad about the spam hits, is this technique working better for you?

  31. knittingnurseon 13 Jul 2005 at 7:12 pm

Great stash busting project. Sigh. You are busting your stash and I just keep adding to mine. When will the madness end??????

Happy Belated B-day to your lovely sis! Sorry about hearing that you won’t be able to celebrate it with her. I know that having family long distance gets to be a real drag. You never really get used to it. But it gives you a better appreciation of the time that you DO get to spend together.

  32. elisaon 13 Jul 2005 at 9:51 pm

Man - you ladies got those socks to stand at attention, too! :)

  33. Lauraon 14 Jul 2005 at 2:18 am

Hi Lolly! I’m sorry I haven’t been stopping in as much as I’d like to. Happy birthday to your gorgeous sis! She’ll love her giftie gift. You’re a great sis for doing that for her.

I like the bag you’re knitting. I’m excited to see it finished!

  34. Katieon 14 Jul 2005 at 10:05 am
