Nose in a Book

Published by lolly at 6:56 pm under Diagonal Fixation, Grad School

Missing You

This week has been a doozy. My reading and my mind have been stuck in the Middle Ages… I have 3 more books to read by Tuesday… is that even possible?

As you can imagine, very little knitting is happening `round these parts. The second Opal sock was cast on, and I even got a few more inches on Hourglass while watching the LOST premiere (I was not going to miss that–no matter how much reading I had to do!)

… and the sock fever continues: this time in Cascade Fixation.

Fixation is fun yarn: stretchy with nylon content, and soft with cotton. I think it will be perfect for socks. I am following the Diagonal Fixation pattern.

Now, I just have to figure out what shoes to wear with this color of socks.

In general housekeeping matters, Kris helped me redo my knitting photo albums. There is a link on my sidebar (under the socks) and one on my header. Go check them out and let me know what you think! you can leave comments in there too (just remember to leave your name so I know who you are!). I also plan to use that space as a general photo album for vacation pics, etc.

I also updated my "100 Things" list in my Lolly Odds and Ends section. Some adjustments and additions…

Weekend plans involve reading, reading and more reading. If I am lucky, I will finish early and get some time to knit. We’ll see what happens…

Oh yeah, and why did Stitches East have to come at such an inoppurtune time?

Yikes on all the reading by Tuesday. That does cut into the knitting time. I got some knitting done while watching Lost too! I’m a fan. I want to know who that guy is and what he wants!

Aw, so sorry you’re slammed with school work. I love the photo you posted! Hee hee! Try to find one fun thing to do this weekend, Lollygirl. You’ll deserve a teeny break.

I love fixation yarn … I made the Pretty Comfy socks using fixation and they are beautiful and I wear them all the time. You’ll like them too.

Sorry about all the reading - it’s fun though, right? A little bit? You guys should come up to NJ to see a Devils game. The stadium is practically around the corner from me!

I’m very happy to “meet” you, too! That’s definitely a doozy of a reading assignment. Makes you kind of wish that osmosis reading really worked. :) Here’s hoping you can squeeze in at least a couple of hours of knitting. Pretty sock pattern; looking forward to seeing your finished socks!

Read, read, read like the wind and then take some time to unwind.

  8. Jesson 24 Sep 2005 at 9:11 am

I am the same way, but writing instead. Like the edited photo - that is fun!

  9. Erinon 24 Sep 2005 at 9:21 am

If only there was a way to read and knit at the same time, I’d totally do it! And I’m thinking you would too!

Oh man, the premier of LOST was crazy!!! I was jumping up and down at the end. They’d better start explaining some stuff.

Those socks you started look like they’re going to be so much fun!

  10. Annieon 24 Sep 2005 at 9:42 am

Aw man! All reading and no knitting- that’s no fun! Oh, I’m sure you’ll get it all done in time : ). And what a pretty blue for your socks!

i’m sure we all feel the same way, any time in the day not knitting is a bit waste of time.. heh he!! your pictures are cute. at least you can contemplating on attending stitches east, me? i can’t even play with the idea as it’s so far away! maybe they should have stitches south.

  12. Michelleon 24 Sep 2005 at 11:20 am

I love the picture of you! 2 socks at once? I do believe that is the official sign of a true sock knitter..hehe.

  13. Estheron 24 Sep 2005 at 12:00 pm

I don’t know HOW you do it all!!!
Kudos to you my friend…you are everywoman indeed.

LOVE your post with the thought bubble - just adorable.

  14. Jessicaon 24 Sep 2005 at 12:59 pm

Oh that picture made me giggle…then I realized that I shouldn’t giggle… I should be feeling sorry for you! Poor Lolly! I hope your reading goes quickly and you get some quality knit time this weekend as a reward. *Hugs*

I love your picture. I think I have that bubble over my head quite often.

The color of you sock yarn is one of my favorites. I know you will enjoy wearing it.

I totally know how you feel Lauren! I started knitting while finishing up my Master’s and writing my thesis, so knitting definitely took the back burner way too often :-) Even now as I begin to restudy for the GRE’s, I find my knitting time has drastically decreased. Anyhow, I also LOVe the picture of where your sister lives… I am so so so jealous. I want to move there too!

The picture albums are working well. I really like that feature on people’s blogs. Always looking for new things to knit! I am having a hard time figuring out how to organize a photo album on my site. Maybe that’s a project for the next business trip on Monday.

Feudalism sounds fascinating. I have faint memories of learning about serfs. Or was it smurfs? :)

  18. francoiseon 24 Sep 2005 at 6:52 pm

Love your new album. It is sad when you want to do something but have to do something else instead… Never mind I am sure you will find a little slot in time to catch up …

  19. Carolynon 24 Sep 2005 at 10:05 pm

Love the new album on your side bar! Great layout. I haven’t tried fixation yet, I’ll be watching for your thoughts on it. I haven’t much time to knit now either…another late night of painting!

  20. Lauraon 24 Sep 2005 at 10:08 pm

Hi Lolly! I found your blog through Carolyn’s (So Much Yarn, So Little Time) and I’m so glad I found you. We have a stunning number of things in common: I am also the oldest of 3 sisters; I moved around a lot as a kid; I lived in 3 of the same states you did; I love books, knitting, and films (Amelie is one of my most favorite movies); I have often fantasized about studying library science and being a rare book librarian (sadly went to law school instead, now have little kids); etc. etc. etc. Your WIPs look fab. I look forward to seeing your progress!

What a fun yarn. I haven’t tried a sock yet. I thought all sock yarns were wool. (Which I don’t use - I know a knitter who doesn’t use wool? How? But it’s true.) So this is an exciting development. Good luck on the reading. We only have to do a couple chapters from each of 5-8 books every two weeks. I don’t think that adds up to 3 a week. Yikes!

  22. jacquelineon 25 Sep 2005 at 3:01 am

that yarn bubble is permanently affixed over my head during the normal working week…so i can absolutely relate!

hope you manage to get all your reading out of the way so that you can at least get a knitting break! i love your new sidebar photo.

  23. Brookeon 25 Sep 2005 at 9:15 am

I love that turquoise! Fixation seems so fast to knit with with such a nice tight fabric resulting.

  24. Dianeon 25 Sep 2005 at 10:46 am

Love that photo! Stitches East is definitely in Baltimore at the Convention center next year. I believe it is the first weekend in November. Good luck with all that reading!

  25. Kathyon 25 Sep 2005 at 11:15 am

Love that pic — so funny (and true)! Hope you had some knitting time this weekend — and don’t worry, Stitches will be back.

  26. elisaon 25 Sep 2005 at 12:23 pm

I don’t have any of the Cascade Fixation, so I’ll have to live vicariously through you for the time being.

3 books by Tuesday? You can do it - I’ve got all kinds of faith in you. :)

    xoxo

  27. Monion 25 Sep 2005 at 1:23 pm

I so know what you mean…I’ve been doing lots of reading lately, too. Love the color of those fixation socks! very pretty!

  28. knittingnurseon 25 Sep 2005 at 2:00 pm

    You are so funny!

  29. cherylon 25 Sep 2005 at 2:16 pm

Lauren that picture of you is adorable, and your hair is getting so long! I’m really quite pleased to hear you don’t check your cell phone messages either by the way. There is strength in numbers, yay team!

  30. Cathion 25 Sep 2005 at 2:17 pm

Your hair looks fab even when you’re studying! Can’t wait to hear more about the Fixation sock- I am so tempted to get some everytime I’m at the shop and have resisted thus far- don’t think I can hold out any longer.

I know you’ve probably seen this already, but did you know that Bee Season, the movie is coming out soon? (But with Richard Gere as the dad, which I’m not so sure about.) And Myla Goldberg’s new book is out, and it sounds pretty interesting.

  31. Chrissyon 25 Sep 2005 at 3:47 pm

I totally love the color of your yarn!! I have to get some for myself. Thanks for checking out my blog. There is going to be lots more sock stuff between now and Christmas.

  32. Jennaon 25 Sep 2005 at 9:39 pm

    Hey sweetness,

I absolutely LOVE the color of that sock yarn. It’s more than pretty. I hope you can find some time to work on it - or at least show your face around these parts!

  33. catherineon 25 Sep 2005 at 10:02 pm

love the color in that fixation! going to make beautiful socks… i hope you absorb all that info!!! i am going to take alook at you picture album right now:)

  34. Brendaon 26 Sep 2005 at 7:52 am

I love that picture of you! I have used Fixation for knitting many footies, some really little ones recently. I used the leftover yarn from a pair of adult footies to make little ones from the Florida Fast Footie pattern by Lynn H (colorjoy.com). I really love how it feels on the feet. I think I’ll try to pattern you are using as I have not knit socks with it yet . . . and I have that color torquoise (5104?), which I love.

  35. Kirstion 26 Sep 2005 at 9:42 am

Thanks for stopping by my blog - I’ve got you bloglined to read now too. I’m so glad I didn’t start knitting til after I had my Ph.D. - I’d never have got the darn thing finished.

The socks look great. I just did the Broadripple socks from knitty using Fixation and I love wearing them. With any colour shoes!

  36. heatheron 26 Sep 2005 at 10:03 am

I want to touch your sockie. hehe Just to see the fixation. hehe.
That pic is awesome. hehe. Wait until you see the yarns I got for you!
