Great response to Socktoberfest 2005–thanks! You can join the knitalong anytime this month, and I will consider any socks started in the month of October (even if you finish them later) as part of this knitalong.
I will add your name to the list, and make periodic updates in my own blog posts. From there, it is up to you to go click on their links and see what the other knitters are doing. In your posts about Socktoberfest, I encourage you to talk about the yarns you are using for your socks, your opinions on how it is knitting up, the patterns you are using or writing, any modifications you have made, and what techniques you like to use when knitting socks (Magic Loop? DPNs? Two circs?)
Also, feel free to showcase socks you have made in the past (even those of you who are not signed up for Socktober can do this! Look at Sockbug's! ). Show us how they are wearing, and what you would do different if you made them again.
Socktoberfest 2005 is a celebration of socks–so flaunt them!
I am still looking for a button for our group (no one has sent one!). Send me an email with the .jpg of .gif, and I will put them here for others to vote on.
So, here is my chance to flaunt what I've got on the sock front!
I bought some new shoes last night. Two criteria for the new shoes: 1) comfortable 2) must look good with handknit socks.
I succeeded on both points with these babies!

Birkenstock Maryjane clogs (on sale at Ross!) I think I am going to wear them everyday. Now I need more socks to wear them with… (of course, I have store bought socks, but as you all know, they are not the same!) Socks also displayed for the Quiddity contest.
So, during the episode of Lost last night, I was swifting and winding my sock yarns… Koigu, Tess, and KnitPicks!

I couldn't keep my paws off the new Tess yarns that Heather picked up at Stitches… so, I started my next pair of socks: Miriam's free Razor Shell pattern.
One word: AMAZING!

Mind you, it will need a little blocking, but this lace pattern is very easy to memorize, and I did this in about 45 minutes. It is knitting up very quickly for size 1 needles. Miriam used KnitPicks yarn to knit her samples, and they look great too, but I have to say, I love the look and texture of this Tess yarn. I am definitely getting some more of this at MD S&W next May.
Speaking of yarn, Heather of All Things Heather dared me to "flash my stash". I am a little hesitant… one because this means that I will actually have to gather most of it into one central location, and because I don't like to show my penchant for rampant yarn consumerism. I swear, I am only like this with yarn… and shoes. I think that is it… (Erin and Lisa pointed out that I am also like this about books and scarves. Okay, they are right–kind of. I buy a ton of stuff second hand!) I am not sure I should talk so much about this anymore–people are calling me out!
So, here is most of it. More upstairs, but you can't see that because it is upstairs.

In some cases, there are double layers. It is bad. I have about 5 or 6 garment projects in there, as well as some stashbusting projects in my head. I am really planning to focus on stashbusting for quite awhile. My last purchase of yarn, for Kris's ribbed sweater, will be my last purchase for a long while. Of course, yarn is often given to me for the holidays, but gifts don't count… right?

A big thanks to Julie for sending me this lovely origami crane. With the luck that it brought, I knit 4 more inches on my Klaralund!

Cute shoes! I would snap those up too if I found them. That is a pretty impressive stash. Even more impressive knowing that isn’t all of it.
Those clogs are SO cute! Oh I want them. What a great find. Good luck with your KAL. I hope you have fun with it.
PS-Sorry I haven’t commented in awhile. TPP has me super extra busy trying to get the little items made along with everything else. I have been reading your blog though.
HUGS!
*gasp* Your stash is unreal, I thought it was a photo of your LYS!
Wish I could join you on the socks, I’m still learning to use dpn’s, they should come with a health warning I’m telling you.
Happy New Year.
Love Estee
LOVE the shoes, your feet looks so cute wearing them with those colourful socks
Can I join?
Talking about socks, I might cast on for one soon
Great stash!
And I want those shoes – alas no Ross stores around here. Ross used to be my favorite store when I lived in CA.
Please sign me up for Socktober. Socks rock!
Hi Lolly! How are you darlin’? I sure hope we can get together SOON! I miss you! I like the stash photo, makes me feel better that I’m not the only one. Count me in for SOCKTOBERFEST..since you and H got me back on track w/the sockies. Great weekend to sit home and knit, eh? xo Donna
wowee! that’s some stash. love all of your sock yarn colours. have a great weekend!
While watching the Sox v Sox game last night, I thought: Lolly picked the perfect year for Soctoberfest! My life is layered with knitted meaning!
That is a STASH! Wow! Mine’s getting bad, but it’s nowhere near that… Love the shoes, too. I just ordered some Dansko clogs to show off my nice handknit sockies, but they were too small and so I’m waiting for a replacement pair – sigh.
Count me in for Socktoberfest! Cool name.
Hi, I’ve been wanting to start my first socks and even bought the yarn but have yet to start. Hopefully Socktoberest will help me get going, so I would love to sign up.
I want to join the Soctoberfest! I wanna use my new special yarn I got at VT S&W. Is this all I do to sign up?
I love your new shoes. How do they feel on the top of the foot when you walk with/bend the shoes? That’s an often problem for me. But boy, based on the way yours look, I almost bought a pair online. I have really high arches, and I’m thinking it would be better for me to try them on first, though. Darn.
DANG! now THAT is a stash. It looks organized, at least.
All your socks are great, I’m learning too slowly, but I’m getting there.
Could you add me to the Socktoberfest list? I’d love to join in. Oh, and love the shoes!
Lolly,
I’d love to join-but I don’t have sock yarn…and sadly, no more yarn $$. Thanks for the compliments, but that’s my mom in the sweater, not me!
I LOVE those mary janes! I need to find a pair of those! I’ll have to stop by Ross tommorrow.
I love those new shoes–perfect for showing off hand-knit socks! Add me to the Socktoberfest list. I have so much sock yarn–I really need to start whipping out the socks! Great idea Lolly.
Wow…I wish we had a Ross around here. Those are great fall shoes for handknitted socks!
You scored on those shoes! Love the socks and the stash, too. Count me in on the Socktober “knitalong”, please!
Goodness gracious, that is a lot of yarn! You can open your own knitting store! And I love the shoes – every knitter must have a pair of shoes to show off her hand knit socks! I’d love to join Socktoberfest – but I must be good and finish my shawl first!
I LOVE those shoes! I must have some. I will visit DSW tomorrow and see if I can find anything like them there – plus I have a coupon! Also, I LOVE the stash! I could just sit and look at it for hours. How fun!
Lovely shoes! I need comfy shoes like that for work! And they do show off the socks very well!
I’d like to join Socktoberfest. Nice Birks! I’m going to have to look for a pair of those for myself.
I would love to join your Soctoberfest! What a great plan. I knit 2 socks on 2 circs and I am almost to the heel on my pair of toe up (only my 2nd pr of toe ups)…
will post a pic on my blog soon;.
I’d LOVE to be part of the Socktoberfest!! It’s still the 19th here in Sunny So Cal!
I’m finishing the heel of my first crochet sock, may I join?
I am just learning to crochet socks…..its just addicting! Your socks are beautiful, would love to learn to knit them as well!
I. Must. Have. Those. Shoes. Can you please send me where to get them? Please!
Thanks!
