Girls of November
Someone pointed out on their blog last week that the reason there are so many birthdays in November is because it is approximately nine months after Valentine’s Day. That gave me a little snicker…

Eilene celebrated her birthday in the beginning of the month, I had mine in the middle, and Heather’s came at the end of the month … A Girls of November celebration was in order! Unfortunately, our dear friend Donna (who is a Girl of October) was not able to make the party - she was missed!
Yummy brunch, mimosas, and special birthday desserts were the perfect way to celebrate!

Our waiter even gave us little candles in the desserts!
We were having such a good time, the party continued all the way to the LYS, All About Yarn. We looked through pattern books, fondled many a yarn, and finally made some decisions about what to take home with us. We all walked out with something (stay tuned to Eilene’s and Heather’s to see their goodies!)
This shop opened a little over a year ago, and each time I visit, I just can’t believe all of the new lovely things they have in house. They started carrying a full line of Rowan, Noro, Manos, Lorna’s Laces, and Jo Sharp, and others, as well as many smaller brands that have amazing things to offer. It really is hard to walk out empty handed. I just could not resist…

I missed the Fall 2005 VK somehow, but I picked up the back issue. It has some real goodies in it. Also got some size 13 DPNs because I am thinking about some chunky wristlets, a stackable small notions storage, and a ball of Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed in Jewel. I am planning to use this one ball for a hat that is in Contemporary Knitting II. My head is getting cold! |
But, I don’t just buy things… I also knit things!
See my most recent finished object?

Heather’s Birthday Gryffindor HiP Scarf!
Started: November 22, 2005 Completed: November 26, 2005
Pattern: HiP Scarf Needles: Bamboo 16" circular size 7
Yarn: Patons Classic Merino Wool in Burgundy and Old Gold
Details: Bias knit, about 6 feet long. Great fun to work on, simple stockinette with stripe color changes. I carried my gold yarn over the rows, and wove in the rest of the ends. It took awhile to weave in all of them, but I think it was worth it. I am very pleased with the final knit. I blocked her twice, and she was still rolling, but Heather did not seem to mind.
She did not know I was giving this to her so soon (she is knitting me one too!) so she had no way of knowing that it would match her Peace Fleece Everyday Cardi so *perfectly*. Love it!
I am also working on Klaralund. Sleeve two is underway, and then I have to do the back (or the front — they are identical!) This sweater is an easy construction, and it is a very relaxing knit. I look forward to wearing it.

I want to clear off some WIPs before I start anything else, and I have several to keep me busy. I do want to begin work on Kris’s sweater, however… maybe to finish it in time for his birthday at the end of December. We’ll see how that works out.
A big thanks to Jennifer for sending the lovely Lorna’s Laces yarn! Such a generous birthday gift! I love the sherbet colorway!.

And Susan and her Labradorable boys sent the great BARk magazine to me and my labradorable girlies this past week. Jenn and Bella looked at the pictures while I read aloud

![]() Jenn spent a long time checking out the boy toy on the cover, while Bella thumbed right to the Health section! |
Socktoberfest updates are slowing down a bit… but I still have a pair to finish! Make sure and check out these lovely finished pairs - and email me if you have a pair to share!
- Iris finished a beautiful purple pair.
- April finished a very handsome pair for her husband.
- Carola shows off her new socks in the Icelandic snow!
- Anmiryam, Fuzzy Feet queen, also finished a pair.
I hope I did not forget anyone… please leave a gentle reminder if I did.

Happy birthday!
you know to drop me a note if you want some jo sharp at some point. i am happy to send some over to you
Happy belated birhtday, November girl! That scarf looks great, I think I need one, too. I also love that sherbert yarn, your stash must be huge. A girl can never have enough yarn. Tschüß!
Boy, you got on the ball! Love the socks that came in. Also, I can’t believe that you finished the scarf. I frogged mine since it’s practice. I want to be able to wear it proudly because the yarn is so beautiful. Sarah took knitting with her to school. Hope you have a good week, Dearie. XXOO
wow, november birthday girls, yummy looking desserts!! i love jo sharp’s yarns, still have some in stash that i am not sure what to make. your klaralund is looking really good! i patched mine this weekend, just fyi, don’t use the yarn to seam, it snags easily.
your bday dinner looks like so much fun! yum, is that a crème brûlée i spy? i just made a head band out of that exact colour silkroad aran tweed - it will make a fab hat. also, can’t wait to see your klaralund - i think you have a winner here!
Sounds like a great celebration - I’m always so jealous seeing you all get together. Makes me realize most of my fibery friends are far away. Happy Birthday to all of you (including October Donna!)
Happy birthday to all of you lovely ladies. You couldn’t have picked a more perfect way to spend your day.
Amy
The birthday brunch was such a great idea - looks like you gals had a blast. And what better way to work off a good brunch than with some intense yarn shopping - LOL!!! The scarf came out wonderful and I can’t wait to see the sweater all done - it’s lovely. The dogs are so cute reading their little magazine.
On my mom’s side of the family, a lot of people have wedding anniversaries in February, too. At the dinner table on Thanksgiving, we went round and counted up all the people in the family born in late October and during November, and it was staggering! November is a big birth month in my husband’s family, too.
I’m glad the girls and you liked BARk. It keeps me entertained, but I don’t think my boys can read, so I have to keep it all to myself. You’ll love the Sherbet colorway — I just knit a Clapotis in that same colorway of Lion & Lamb and it was really pretty. (Alas, it is a gift for someone else!) I can’t wait to see your Klaralund finished. I’ve got the yarn for mine but I have yet to start it.
Oh, you ladies and your decadent desserts — I want to wing it down to MD to celebrate with you!
What a wonderful day! I’m carrying those memories and the lovely day with me always! mmmm~ delish!
I can’t wait to see yer beret!!!!
Happy Birthday from another November baby! I’m always amazed at how many people have November birthdays - must be those cold February nights. I managed to restrain myself at the yarn shop while I was in CT, but I did come back with some additions to my stash, including more sock yarn. We’ll have to engineer a get together soon so we can show off our goodies.
I’m also an October girl! But, our wedding anniversary is in November, so does that count?! The Gryfindor (sp?) scarf looks so great, I really like how you did it on the bias. Have you seen the movie yet?
Klaralund is looking great as well!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday Lolly! Your Gryffindor Scarf is great and I can’t wait to see the Klaralund sweater on you, it looks fabulous. I wish I had a yarn shop like this one near home… Sigh!
Brunch and an outing to the yarn store with the girls - sounds like a perfect day!
the Klaralund looks so pretty, is there a particular reason why you made the sleeves before the back? I hope you finish it in time for Christmas, it would be great to wear then. Also, I want to try it on when you’re finished
Ha, the dogs reading the magazine cracks me up. I guess Bella is more of an intellectual - goes with her dark looks
ooooh! happy birthday girls! what a great waiter to give candles, bet he got a good tip
love the scarf she made, i saw her wearing that in the pics before and loved it ! The tweed is a great color! and Klaralund is coming along nicely! not too long now and you’ll be sportin’ it around town! your dogs can read !! =0 he he he
Brunch, with dessert! Now THAT’S a good birthday.
Looks like the Girls of November had an awesome time together! =) The Gryffindor Scarf is so cute, and Klaralund is coming along beautifully! Love the colors. Also glad to see that you had a good Thanksgiving!
I just saw Harry Potter Goblet of Fire and admired those really long scarves. That cardi looks really classic. What a wonderful birthday tradition.
When you finish your Klaralund, I’ll probably unravel mine. Serves me right trying to use a different kind of yarn for the body! I really like the colorway you chose.
Too funny! I didn’t think about November being 9 months away from Valentines day. I’m also another November baby. Today in fact. =)
The desserts look like they were scrumptious! Happy Birthday to you all. =)
I noticed you all had your birthdays in NOvember! No wonder I love reading all of your blogs..your all Scorpios! anyway, I love your gryfindor scarf! I’m making a slyterin one for my hubby.
What a great birthday get together! Celebrating with friends is so much fun, and the LYS trip the icing on the cake
Your sweater is coming out great - I love those colors and the scarf is lovely. Happy Birthday again!
Happy Belated Birthday. What a great way to celebrate with your friends, and then off to make yarn purchases.
I also thought about the November birthdays thing a couple of nights ago. I was talking about how I knew several people who have birthdays at the end of Semptember (hello, nine months after New Years!) and a friend brought up the November birthdays “issue.”
I also recently acquired some Lorna’s Laces in sherbet, and it’s so cute!
I love that Silkroad Aran Tweed… it is so gorgeous! (And wonderful to knit with, too… soooooooo addictive!!)
Your Klaralund looks wonderful - I do like the shaping you added. Can’t wait to see that all finished up! So glad you girls had such wonderful birthdays and were able to have a celebration together as well!
Not that there’s ever an okay time to think about your parents having sex, but I’m happy to know that I was a month late, so I am not a Valentine’s Day baby. Just a cold January night baby. Or something. I’m not thinking about it too closely!
Wow, your pooch can read, I think Abner may be able to, but is still faking stupidity so I won’t stop reading him stories.
Love the scarf by the way, very cute.
I was originally due with my son on November 19th, putting me right at… you guessed it… Valentines Day. I still remember that night.
TMI!
What’s interesting though, is that in my entire huge family of 11 aunts and uncles (just on my maternal side) and alllllll those cousins, there are no November birthdays.
My husband Eric’s birthday is November 30th, though, so he redeemed this family for the month of Nov. HaHa.
Happy Birthday to you and your lovely lady-friends.
I’m thinking of a knit-theme Maxim issue, with the Girls of November on the cover (sorry it just strikes me as a lad mag name). Love the HP Scarf.
What fun. Happy b’day to you all!
Oh your Thanksgiving pictures are just beautiful!! What great memories…the pics of your mom/Sarah learning to knit and the big smiles all around - just wonderful
Thanks for sharing.
I want to join - I’m a November girl, too - November 13th.
Happy Birthday!
Sounds like you had a great weekend! I’m so glad!
I can’t wait to see your Klaralund modeled. The colorway is gorgeous.
Happy Birthday Lolly!
I like the photo of Heather. I can see you in the window reflection. : )
Happy Bday! Mine’s in Nov too, and it’s a bit unnerving to think I was conceived around Valentines….by the way that store looks like I could spend a whole paycheck there easily!
mmmm, the deserts look tempting!
nice klaralund sweater you are working on there. this seems to be a pretty popular body for next spring and fall - you’ll be right in style!
That theory about the abundance of November babies is too funny! Makes perfect sense to me! Looks like the 3 of you had a fantabulous time- your brunch sure looks delicious, and what’s not to love about mimosas?
Such a snazzy little joint. Your LYS looks fantastic, too. I love the Silkroad Aran Tweed you picked up. And the HP scarf looks awesome, too! Your Klaralund’s really coming along. I love watching the colorway develop on your sweater- so beautiful! So glad to hear you had such a great weekend…take care, Lolly!
Your Klaralund looks great! I’ve only finished the front (or could be the back!) and it’s now been put away until after the holidays. Can’t wait to see yours finished!
Happy birthday! That looks like such a wonderfully fun outing. And the desserts are totally to die for….
your sweater is completely lovely. cannot wait to see it all finished up!
Hi Lolly, it’s always nice to see you lovely ladies get together. Happy birthdays to all of you!
To answer your question, yes, the Bomber I mentioned in my previous post is the one from Denim People. I’ve just finished the knitting over the weekend and washed the pieces today. They are now drying. So far, the shrinking seems to be okay. I am eager to seam it up. No photo yet … have to wait after the seaming. There are at least 2 other patterns I’d like to knit from that book … and the best part is … I already have the yarns in stash!
Hey, I’m a November baby too - my birthday was Friday! Your dinner looks like it was a lot of fun - I had mine at a Mexican restaurant and I did get a candle in my cinnamon ice cream. I love All About Yarn - my dad lives in Columbia and I discovered it last year. He’s moving next week, unfortunately, so I probably won’t get there again, but it’s really what I would love to have as my own LYS. Enjoy it!
Happy birthday, Lolly!
P.S. Klaralund is looking great!
Wish I had been there too!
You know I don’t think I ever told you about my finished Sockober socks. Here is the picture I took before I kitchnered the toes… ( http://fiberfish.blogspot.com/2005/11/what-long-strange-trip-it-been.html ) never posted another picture - whoops! I wear them every week though!
Looks like you had a great birthday!
Thanks for the nice comment on my blog :0) I look foreward to seeing more pics of your finished pieces, too!!!
That looks like so much fun!! I love the picture of Heather with her candle - she looks like she is up to mischief!! Happy Birthday Girls!!

I never thought about the November birthday/Valentine connection before-that is too funny! You are so lucky to have such great girls to celebrate with-Happy Birthday to all of you! The knits look great, and I am drooling over that Lorna’s Laces. Can’t wait to see what you knit with it!

Ohh the HP scarf looks great. And your Klaralund is coming along nicely!
Great looking projects! And the HiP scarf is great. Glad to hear that Heather liked it.
