Warm Weather Waltz
70 degrees Fahrenheit on a weekend:
perfect combination for some fun in the sun!

The pink cordouroy flip flops were on super-duper clearance last week at DSW (when it was 30 degrees outside!) and I snatched them up immediately. They came in quite handy today!
Sandals are my favorite thing about warm weather. I have the collection to prove it. Yet, I also love knitting socks… and it is hard to pull off that socks with sandals look. The warm weather will not hinder my sock knitting, but the sock wearing may have to wait until September!

Strawberry Swirl sock one is complete and fits perfectly. Sock two is off to a good start, and will most likely take up permanent residence in my hands throughout the remainder of the weekend. Love the way this yarn is knitting up!
This week has flown by - loads of Project Spectrum things going on (you have to check out the PS Flickr Group page - amazing pics updated everyday!), as well as work and school projects, family gatherings, and exercising. Since my youngest sister Sarah is in town for her college Spring Break, I decided to have them all over on Thursday night for dinner and a knit-in. We had a great time!

Mom and Sarah are knitting away on scarves and shawls, and behold my mom’s first circular FO! The cowl from Last Minute Knitted Gifts around her neck. She did a beautiful job on it, and it looks great with many outfits. It is also a great transition piece in this early spring weather when mornings and evenings can get chilly. Sarah started a drop-stitch scarf in a fun novelty yarn. She and mom both want to try felting for their next projects.
Mimi started on a great eyelet baby blanket for her pregnant friend in Hawaii. She is knitting this up so quickly and will be done in no time. She has really got the hang of it!

I wrapped up a super secret birthday knit for a certain sister of mine (ahem, Sarah) and am quite happy with the outcome. We are doing an early gift exchange this evening (her actual birthday is next week on St. Patrick’s Day) but since she was in town, I kicked the knitting into high gear, and saved a little postage as well
Here’s the preview - I hope to get a modeled shot here soon.

…more details on that knit on the flip side…
I did a mini-meme. Here are a few of the red and pink items seen in my house this morning…

Mardi Gras mask from New Orleans 2004

Pink breakfast smoothie

Red Russian Dolls pin, souvenir from Dad’s trip to Bering Strait, Alaska
Just a few this time - more household pinks and reds to come.
I am taking Project Spectrum on the road (er, rails?) as Kris and I head up to the Big Apple for a few days. We leave tomorrow morning, and will be staying in Manhattan. I hope to blog while I am there, but if not, I will catch you on Wednesday!
Update 3/13/06 6:54pm: My site’s down time was a result of bandwidth overages… I hope all is well from here on out. The problem should be resolved with the hosting service. If you tried to join Project Spectrum and were denied, please try again!!

Looking forward to the “super secret” sister gift reveal!
Oh, wow! Lovely pin - such cute dolls. I love the mardi gras mask - those colours are really vibrant. You’ve made me what to go and hunt red and pink in my house now!
I love your Russian doll pin - nesting dolls have always been a favorite of mine. Your sock is so pretty - I know you’ll have the second one done in no time. I’m dying to try out that Hill Country yarn. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that our “heat wave” continues while you’re in NYC . . . and also that the rainy forcast changes to sun!
Whatever that is you made for your sister is lovely! I love that pin too! I am a wee bit jealous of your knit-in!
So many beautiful things you just posted! I’m loving the family photos! The smoothie is one of my favorite things I make during the summer months when fresh fruit is at it’s peak. Yum! From your last post loving the necklace you made, so in! Your speeding right along on those socks, cute and comfy looking flip flops. Can’t wait to see what you made for your sister. Hey, is that a Vera Bradley purse I spot on your mom’s lap?? I have a few of those, great light weight purse to have. Gosh Lolly, these are just some great fun photos! Keep up the great posting and lucky you getting to go to NYC soon. I’ll be visiting there soon enough. Have fun on vaca!! Your pink sock is really cute. i like that yarn a lot! Can’t wait to see the sister sweater modeled! The colors are fun!!
*Is jealous of your sandal wearing* It is about 38 degrees here, and I almost put on sandals simply because it’s above freezing.
I adore your strawberry swirl socks… this colorway rocks more than any other I have seen in various blogs lately. It makes me feel all happy just looking at them.
Wow! All of the reds and pinks look so wonderful! I finished my pink (pink baby ribbon being the inspiration). Hopefully I will be able to post on the FlickR later today! Have a wonderful trip to NYC! It is still COLD up there!
I pulled out my sandals this weekend too - and had the first pedicure of the season! It was so nice.
Your sock is so cute. I have to tell you - I’m not a project-spectrummer per se, but ever since it started, I find myself noticing more pink and red than I ever did before. What an effect! It’s delightful.
Have a great time in NY!
I love those pink socks!!!!
and the russian doll pin!!…those dolls are something I’ve wanted to start collecting and haven’t (yet)
Your flip flops are fab. They look so comfy.
Amy
Flip Flops! It will probably take us another good 3 months before we walk around in shoes like that here in Stockholm…
I’m soooo fed up with winter right now! And I’m a winter person!
I want summer!
Love all the pictures - how great having so many knitting women in your family! You have your own “knitting group” right there
I love the Russian dolls - so cute!
I was freaking out for you when I couldn’t get to your blog. Glad everything has been resolved.
Sandals…oh, I miss them so much. Growing up in 90 degree+ weather that’s all you wear. Then I moved here and was traumatized when I got my first sock hole. That never happens when you wear sandals all the time!! I miss the freedom of putting on a pair of sandals whenever you feel like it. But then again, I get to knit socks now. So, it’s not that bad after all.
Hope you’re having a blast in NYC.
Strawberry Swirl looks perfect.
Hi Lolly…Looks like such fun with your Mom & sisters! Hope you had a great trip to NYC. Can’t wait to hear about it! xo Donna
Wow! Look at those socks fly! I love the Russian doll pin, and the mask! Have a super fun trip : D
