Fruit of the Loom

I came upon CosmicPluto’s blog last week, and fell in love with her new handheld loom and all of the lovely squares she was making. So, I got one too… and now I love weaving!

Weavette Handheld Loom – I got the 4" x 6" rectangle model.

You may recognize the yarn in the first two squares… HCY Sweet Feet Strawberry Swirl! (Did you see their new colors? They rolled out their Project Spectrum April color!) This little loom is the perfect way to use up scraps – even small bits can be woven into stripes. I love the way that the variegated yarn formed a pattern on the loom – sort of looks like plaid. I can’t wait to experiment with some other leftovers I have in the stash!

I already threaded some leftover Koigu KPPPM for my next rectangle. The directions are very easy to follow, and there is a book that has tutorials on how to make different designs. CosmicPluto also found a great site, with vintage weaving patterns free for download. There are so many project possibilities! Expect to see some more of these little woven rectangles… they are so fun and quick to produce!

The Meetup on the Mall was a great success! We were nine knitters strong in the shadow of the Washington Monument. The weather was gorgeous – not a cloud in the sky. While the wind did pick up and get a little chilly, we all kept our knitting in tact. Thank you for coming out ladies! It was so great to see many of you again, and wonderful to finally meet some longtime blogger friends. I hope you all had as much fun as I did!

Beth came up from VA too!

I was there too. Knitting on a super secret project, chatting it up with some awesome people, and eating sugar-free Jelly Bellys and a few pieces of chocolate. If you were not able to make it this time, there will be a next time! It was such a blast!

Everyone was working on lovely projects in an array of beautiful colors – socks, sweaters, and scarves. Karen’s lovely lace tank was passed around for everyone to cop a feel, as were Coleen’s amazing P socks, and we were all googling over Sarah’s lovely cabled pullover WIP.

Our view from the base of the Washington Monument – look at that blue sky!
