Green Weekend

The threat of rain was upon us all weekend, but it did not come until late Sunday night… the weekend was rather beautiful!  Kris and I consumed ourselves with some lovely green activities.

How our garden grows!  Hanging baskets outline the new pond, and we potted some herbs and vegetables for our container garden. Also planted, though not pictured, are the main vegetable garden beds, and the raised herb garden.

The pond is working out very well, even without a pump. Kris planted some submersed water plants (from his aquariums) in the pond, and they will soon be at the surface.  Our backyard has transformed into a green sanctuary!

I took advantage of the lush green grass (before the puppies kill it off!) to showcase my favorite green shoes.

And I finished one of my Project Spectrum GREEN projects!

"Emerald" Tank
Pattern: Saunshine Jems Collection, "Ruby" Tank
Yarn: Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece (Holly Green)
Needles: Size US 8

Notes:  I made the torso longer than the pattern called for, but (as you can see from the photos) I still could have made it several inches longer.  The tank was a breeze to knit, and it was a fun and easy pattern.  I plan on making another version of this in the future, and when I do, I will tweak the sleeves a little and add a longer ribbing section to make them lay completely flat.  I chose to make a smaller size because cotton tends to stretch (often in weird ways) and because I want to be able to wear this garment as I continue to lose weight.  It is a little tight now, but I hope to be able to wear it as I continue.

Saun designed a great pattern, and I am eagerly anticipating more of her work!  She is very talented, and has a lot to offer, check out her patterns! I see a Diamonique in my future, and if I can get my "lace" act together, I would love to try one in her Sweet Tees line. Thank you, Saun, for the great support (she quickly responded to my email about the pattern!) and for your beautiful designs! :)

More news… Mother's Day, a new green project, and some long-overdue Project Spectrum updates.  Stay tuned!

It looks incredible on you, Lolly–like I said, svelte! I’m also jealous of the garden, which is coming along beautifully. I repotted one houseplant this weekend, which doesn’t come close at all!

  2. Taraon 15 May 2006 at 8:46 pm

Beautiful! All of it! The vest is super flattering and doesn’t look too small at all….it looks sexy!

  3. Jessicaon 15 May 2006 at 8:49 pm

Very cute Emerald Tank! And, as a girl who has a few pairs of green shoes herself – lllove your sandals! :) Keep it coming with the garden pics – you’re inspiring me to want to do some planting of my own! :)

  5. Amyon 15 May 2006 at 8:56 pm

Lookin’ good lady! The yard looks good too. You’re inspiring me to get back on track and off my lazy butt before I gain back the 39 pounds I’ve lost (again).

I love that top!!! Miss you!

  15. sarah b.on 15 May 2006 at 11:27 pm

It’s fitted, not tight! I feel your pain on needing to make things longer, my one regret on most knitted items is that I don’t make them long enough.

  16. Teresaon 15 May 2006 at 11:36 pm

I love the plants and flowers-it all looks so inviting and peaceful. And the green tank is so sexy and flattering-you are looking great girl!

You are such the Green gal! The tank turned out very well – it would be cute with sleeves on it too (giving myself ideas here)! And the fit looks really good. Oversized and baggy makes people look dumpy…ehem…like a certain knitter out there…

  36. Staceyon 16 May 2006 at 9:13 am

It looks so great! And the color!

I’m envious of your plantings – it hasn’t stopped raining here since we got back from MD (flooding and all) and I’m itching to get my fingers in some dirt and plant!

Your Emerald Tank looks great! That shade of green looks lovely on you.

We did our planting this weekend, just some herbs and a few other plants in a container garden. I’m working on the Hedera socks from Knitty (in green, of course!) for Project Spectrum, but it remains to see if I can actually finish them this month.

Of course, since we planted this weekend, it is now cold and icky outside. Poor little plants.

  55. Zarahon 16 May 2006 at 1:38 pm

The tank looks great on you! I bet you’ll wear it a lot, since it actually fits your rapidly shrinking bod! =) Your backyard is looking very nice, too. I also planted a garden over the weekend (okay… Matt did all the work) – I’ll have to post a pic!
