Simple Pleasures

Published by lolly at 10:09 am under Gardening, Green Anklets, Socks

Waking up without an alarm.  Cooking and eating a yummy breakfast with your loved one.  Getting your day started with a yoga class, and some laps in the swimming pool.  Going to the farmer's market.  Curling up on the couch with your knitting.  Sitting in the sun.  Talking to your neighbors at the community cookout.  Organizing the craft room.  Gardening.  Buying a new bicycle and taking it out for a spin.  Dinner with the family.

Such a beautiful weekend… and we still have an afternoon to go!

Lilies - about to bloom!  I look forward to this every year!

Click on picture for the description of what is planted in each pot.

Turned the heel on my second anklet - is there any way I can finish this anklet in the green month of May? (Mind you, I have big feet!)

Arranged my knitting needles - including the circular ones.

My new bike!  The perfect purchase to enjoy the beautiful day.  Kris and I went on a 14-mile ride around Columbia and Savage.

————————

A cool thing I just have to share:  I got an email from my friend, KnittingNurse, who shared information about Make the Connection, a cancer awareness and prevention group.  Right now, they are offering free bead bracelet/anklet kits on their website.  For every kit that is mailed out, $1 will be donated to cervical cancer research.  Go order your kit now - we can all have matching bracelets!

I hope you have a wonderful week - only a few green days left, and then it is all about blue, baby!

Your previous post inspired me to take a look at and to contain my own stash. I haven’t finished, but I guarantee the results to be a bit of a fright! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I’ve been slowly trying to get my stash under control and organized. Now I just need to get my knitting books in some kind of order. You are looking mighty fine and fit these days, Lolly! Enjoy the holiday.

    Hi Lauren,
Letting you know that my Amazing Lace project is using blue on account of June’s Project Spectrum color! In fact, Horstia’s cornflower blue silk/wool…
Now THAT tells me summer is here PS style. ;)

May I just share how enjoyable your blog is to me each time I read a new entry? I love your pictures and content. Love the plants and the new bike. Mr Wonderful and I enjoy riding here and there, but never quite as often as I would like. This weekend is beautiful here in So Cal, as well.

  9. Angelaon 29 May 2006 at 12:20 pm

Sounds like a perfect weekend to me!

What a lovely long weekend. I love your sleek new craft room organization. And congrats on your sleek new body too!

  11. Rossanaon 29 May 2006 at 12:56 pm

Thanks for the link to Make the Connection! I just ordered my kit.

Enjoy the rest of your perfect, long weekend!

I’m spending 2006 trying to knit through my stash but it’s not going perfectly. I just bought a bunch of Elsebeth Lavold silky tweed for Knit N Tonic’s NSS cardigan and I love that stuff! I will give myself a B- for stash reduction so far this year. Pretty good, but could do way better with more effort. I am so proud of you for your bike riding! It’s wonderful for you and so much fun too.

I think you can finish those green socks, they are going to be beautiful!

  14. jami howardon 29 May 2006 at 1:43 pm

    love that pic!!!
ps: my favorite color is green!!

  15. Erinon 29 May 2006 at 2:27 pm

Enjoy your new bike! I’d love to get one someday. As for now, it’s walking for me! Oh, I definitely think you can finish those socks before May is through!

  16. Maryon 29 May 2006 at 2:43 pm

I love my Raliegh! And you know what? I just realized this, IT’S GREEN! Well, silver and green :). I’ve had my little bike since 2003 and it’s taken me all over Hilo, HI and now in and about my little neighborhood in North Seattle. I hope you get the same kind of joy. Yours seem way spiffier with the shocks and stuff…I went simple, it’s a modified road bike :).

Happy trails…I have a SINGLE sock to finsih for May :) Bad month for knitting or crafting it seems… :).

  17. Carieon 29 May 2006 at 2:56 pm

Love the storage. My recent reorganisation sadly reminded me quite how many projects I still have to start and finish, and yet something else always tempts me….. roll on a blue June - my favourite colour and my birthday month!

  18. elisaon 29 May 2006 at 3:06 pm

I love your new bike! Mike and I either need to get new bikes or get ours seriously repaired (two winters outside have not been kind to them).

And - I *so* recognize that blue and brown yarn on top of your bookcase. :) I’ve been thinking about the design for a felted bag that I want to use for my yarn… :)

I hope that the rest of your afternoon is wonderful!

  19. catherineon 29 May 2006 at 4:04 pm

what a wonderful day! thank you for the ‘make the connection” link!!!!!

  20. Karenon 29 May 2006 at 4:22 pm

Sounds like you had a great 3 day weekend. Mine was pretty restful too. Although a 14 mile bike ride doesn’t sound restful. Fun, but not restful. I wouldn’t be able to walk if I rode a bike for 14 miles! ;)

  21. Lauraon 29 May 2006 at 4:27 pm

Oh! I used to have a raleigh hybrid very similar to that! Unfortunately, it was given to me by an ex so i got rid of it when i got rid of him! Take THAT, or… something. Is that a tv antennae holding your circs? Glad to hear you had a nice weekend!

  22. Jenniferon 29 May 2006 at 5:39 pm

Glad you’re having such a great weekend! Love the knitting needle vases and polka dot box. :)

  23. Dianeon 29 May 2006 at 7:55 pm

Love your new bike, Lolly! 14 miles? Wow!
The needle collection looks great. I loved seeing your organized stash the other day–it looks like a yarn shop! I was furniture shopping this weekend and saw a cubical shelf configuration like yours and said to my husband, “Look, yarn storage!” He was in shock until he realized the manufacturer did not really call it yarn storage, just a cube shelf system. It amused me! He would flip if he saw how much yarn I really have!

    Have a fun week!

  24. knittingnurseon 29 May 2006 at 8:56 pm

WOW you look amazing. I am so happy for you and the obvious changes that all your hard work is making. Good for you!

Thanks so much for the mention about the cancer awareness site. I hope that we can get lots of beautiful bracelets and more funds for the research that is so necessary!

  25. Bethon 29 May 2006 at 9:02 pm

Thanks for the info on Make the Connection - a dear friend of mine just hit her 5 year cancer-free anniversary so I’m going to make a bracelet for her (she had cervical cancer). I hope lots of money is raised through this effort.

  26. Jenniferon 29 May 2006 at 9:37 pm

A bike! There’s nothing better than a nice bike ride.

  27. Teresaon 29 May 2006 at 9:59 pm

Wow-it sounds like a wonderful weekend, and very relaxing! Your craft room looks great-I love the way you have it all organized, it looks like a yarn shop!;-) The bike is a nice new purchase-I love a nice, long bike ride.

Thanks for the link for the bracelet. 13 years ago, like so many women, I was diagnosed with HPV. When the results of my pap came back, it had already gone into the early stages of cellular change and if it had gone unchecked I would have quickly developed cervical cancer. I had all the damaged areas removed, and after two years of repeat paps every 6 months, I am happy to say I have had no problems since then-but it was such a scary thing, and just a lucky chance that they caught it when they did at my regular exam.

I recently read that HPV is one of the highest diagnosed STDs among women, and that it can live in the area above a condom, so even having protected sex a woman may contract it. That is alarming, and so the importance of regular pap smears (ugh-who likes these!?) has to be stressed more than ever. Wearing the bracelet will not only help the research, but each time someone comments on it we can use it as a chance to educate and inform. So a big thanks again for taking the time to mention it-I already ordered mine!!

    Take care sweetie!

Your weekend sounded very relaxing and with lots of good things for your body happening there too. Congrats on the new bike! Glad you and Kris were able to get out and get it broken in. I think you can finish the sock. I have big feet too, but once you get past the heel it just flies!

  29. Mimion 30 May 2006 at 1:48 am

I like the new bike, and you needle organization is quite impressive. Hope you had a nice long weekend. It is so nice having Daniel home. Life is different when I am with him all the time. I am still adjusting to being so happy all the time. I know we will eventually return to the day-to-day norm, but it is just like we got married again. Pretty special…

    Love You!

  30. gray la granon 30 May 2006 at 9:02 am

are you growing your herbs from seeds? i think i killed my thyme. i keep watering it though … hoping. and i’d love to do jalapenos and other peppers, but i think i need a yard for that ;)
congratulations with the new bike. you know, lucy neatby has a pattern for bicycle socks! wouldn’t that be cute?!

  31. Claudiaon 30 May 2006 at 9:52 am

Congratulations on your new bike!! That makes me want to take mine out from the stand and go biking! :-)

  32. Kateon 30 May 2006 at 10:06 am

I’m jealous of your great bike purchase! Jason and I are big slackers about taking ours out of the basement to use them. I blame it on the outrageous amounts of hills in my area!

  33. jesson 30 May 2006 at 11:47 am

sounds like you are having fun! Love the green yarn of that sock!

  34. Cathyon 30 May 2006 at 12:05 pm

Love the container garden and the sock! Congratulations on your new bike. I planted my garden this week and put a zucchini and a summer squash in a large pot. I’m wondering if they will do well as I have never done plants such as those in a container before. Love the bike, it sounds like you had a great weekend :)

  35. Estheron 30 May 2006 at 12:53 pm

WOW what a wonderful weekend!! I was reading your post and swooning over how perfect everything sounded!! Your craft room/stash project looks great - the anklet of course lovely - and your bike is fantastic!! Good for you!

  36. Nonnahson 30 May 2006 at 1:00 pm

I love your container garden! I swear, I need to get on that. Went to the garden store over the weekend to get ideas, but I left feeling more overwhelmed. Oy! Yay for such a great weekend!

  37. Miss Dottieon 30 May 2006 at 1:31 pm

Wow! Looks like you had a very productive weekend! And I love the bike!

BTW, you look great! Your weight loss journey has inspired me to keep with mine.

And thanks for giving us a peek at your stash–makes me feel better about my own large stash.

    Hurrah!

  38. hillaryon 30 May 2006 at 1:34 pm

Your new boke looks great. I took mine out and got it tuned up but the rear tire went flat before I got far. I’m not quite ready for 14 mile trips but I hope to go a few miles this summer myself.

Your organizational efforts are inspirational. I tried to organize a little this weekend myself.

  39. karenon 30 May 2006 at 1:37 pm

I love your green days! - green is my favourite!! Lovely socks and lovely plants - all so summery and fresh - just like you with your bike!!;)

  40. Kimberlyon 30 May 2006 at 1:49 pm

So that’s what these are . . . lilies? I’ve been trying to keep these out of my front garden, and these just keep coming back. Arrrggghh. The flowers are pretty, just not in there with my rosemaries, lavenders, oreganoes, tarragons, and thymes . . .

  45. Raganon 31 May 2006 at 8:38 am

Wow, you surely have been busy!

  46. iselon 31 May 2006 at 9:41 am

Lolly, you have a bike!!! Let’s go riding. I’m sure a bunch of knitters have bikes and I’ve been meaning to get on mine for a while now. :D

Love the green stitches…so tiny and perfect.

  47. Monion 31 May 2006 at 10:37 pm

sounds like you had a lovely weekend :)

  48. Lisaon 01 Jun 2006 at 12:44 pm

Great new bike. I’ve been thinking about getting one - mine is so old the parts are wearing out. Keep up the good work!
