Just as Chris Pronger scored the first Edmonton goal – 14 seconds into the game – I was binding off the front of my Carla pullover. And during the first intermission, I got the block party started!
I will sew her up tonight, complete the sleeve detail, and show her off tomorrow!
Of course, with 2 hours of hockey game left, I needed something else to knit. I could have worked on one of the WIPs, but, instead, I started on a new blue…
This “Fuzzy Wuzzy” mohair is from Dancing Leaf Farm, born and raised here in Maryland. My friend, Donna, gave this beautiful “True Blue” colorway for my birthday last year. It has a TON of yardage, much more than this pattern calls for. If you look close enough, you can see that it is turning my needles blue! I had a feeling this might happen, so I chose my cheapy Ebay needles. It dyed my fingers too, so after knitting up, it will need a good rinsing until the water is clear. It may fade the yarn – it is a little bright, eh?
Last year, I worked a trade with Jacqueline. I admired her beautiful mohair camisole, and she admired a teapot only sold in the US, so the trade was born! She sent me the Jo Sharp Contemporary Knitting Two Collection book, and I found the Adagio Teapot she wanted. So, I am finally making that little mohair cami I admired!
Such a simple pattern – infinitely wearable in every season. I love the muted colors of the Jo Sharp mohair yarn, but I am committed to using up some stash yarns this summer, so I hope that this camisole turns out well with this variegated mohair.

I was ready to see the Stanley Cup awarded to the Hurricanes last night. I just had a feeling that they could pull through. Neither of the teams in the finals are “my” team, but I do enjoy watching good hockey, and this series has been incredible! Great stories and great plays. My sister Sarah goes to college just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina, so I hope to catch one of their fall games when I go down to visit her. |
On Saturday night, Kris and I will be watching Game Six of the finals – counting down till the Cup is awarded. Whether it goes to the Oilers or the ‘Canes, I will have my knitting in one hand, and my tissue in the other… I always tear up when they skate around with the trophy!

I love the blue varigated mohair! It looks like it’ll be perfect for that pattern — a different take on it, yes, but it’ll add some “zing” to the design. Very pretty!
Your pullover is great! Its amazing what a good blocking can do. I should try that with my one and only wearable garment (that don’t look so wearable on ME) that I knit last summer. I love the mohair cami, too! You have such a good eye for patterns.
Good luck to the ‘Canes. My company’s headquarters are about three miles away from their stadium, so I, too, am going to try to catch a game next year while I’m down there.
There is NOTHING like the Stanley Cup. Just the words “The Cup is IN the building” are enough to send shivers down my spine. I was lucky enough to be there when the Devil’s won their last cup and it was one of the most thrilling nights of my life. Luckily my husband was there with me. Playoff Hockey is THE BEST! (Puts that silly World Cup to shame. SO EXCITING!)
Oooh, that cami will be wonderful. I love mohair, but can’t wear it . . . the little hairs get under my contact lenses (ouch!!). I can’t wait to see the finished pullover!!!

Can you tell me a little more about the mohair? I have some BLUE Outback mohair that is pretty bulky. I have a sweater’s worth, but I made a sweater out of it and looked like a big ole hair bear. I totally chose the wrong pattern for it. Is your mohair pretty bulky, or is it more like a kidsilk or soft kid type? I am just at a loss for what to do with this stuff!

woohoo, I was knitting and watching the game last night too, of course, crazy hockey fanatic me (we even went to see the Caps AHL team play on Saturday — they’re in the AHL finals, and up 3 games to 2 now! Go baby Caps!). But er — go Oil! Underdogs and all! There is nothing like playoff hockey!

I am not one for hockey, but Adam and Veronica love it. Shameful I know, considering I only live a few hours away from “Hockey Town”. In the off season the Wings practice in Traverse City (close to where Adam grew up), and it is cool because you can watch them practice, and it is a little more personal than an actual game. I try so hard to enjoy the game, but alas, I am still a baseball girl at heart!

It’s nice to see an American so into hockey. I just moved back to my hometown of Calgary (from Toronto) and while I’m not as hockey nutso as my family, I do enjoy the playoffs. And you’re right — it’s great knitting time! Go Oilers! (I thought they were doomed, but they’re putting up a good fight — I almost cried after that OT goal last night!)
I keep a few needles in reserve for blue…I knit with it all the time, and it seems to be the most likely to bleed.

From someone who lives in Edmonton, there isn’t a playoff game where you don’t hear honking in the streets everytime the Oilers score a goal — even in the most quiet cul-de-sac. And that OT goal last night? You can hear the excited screaming and yelling in my house and the rest of the neighborhood!

I LOVE the way the stitch pattern looks on Carla, it’s so cool. I’m sure you’ll look divine in it. When you wear that cami, be sure that the dye doesn’t come off on your clothes! It looks so soft, it will make for a lovely wardrobe piece.

I cannot wait to see that Carla pullover. It looks so nice already. I started the Jo Sharp mohair singlet top too for my sister, but alas it is still sitting in my WIP basket. I also bought some cheap yarn with the same texture in a blue to start one for me, but it will have to wait. The color of your blue is gorgeous, and it suits your coloring.

i was so ready to see Brind’Amour skating around with the cup last night. i was screaming at the tv when edmonton scored that overtime goal. so unfair! i’m rooting for the canes cause Brind’Amour used to be one of my favorite players on the Flyers. Plus Recchi used to be a Flyer in the good old days too. I can’t think of two more deserving players.
It’s almost a conflict of interest though, cause the coach of the Oilers also used to be one of my favorite players on the Flyers. I mean, dude, how could you not like the last guy in the NHL that was crazy enough not to wear a helmet! McTavish was nuts!
