Assessment
Many many thanks for your kind comments on my recent knit! You made me blush! I enjoyed wearing my new sweater this weekend, even with temperatures in the 90s, the sweater was quite cool and comfortable.
| I had every intention of blogging last night with the winner of the little contest, but I got caught up in the best game on earth. Just as predicted, I bawled like a little baby when the game finished, and I am sure I would have done the same had the Oilers had won. The tears started even before the Cup came out! Amazing! | ![]() |
So, without further ado… the winner of the Cotton Tape is…
Thanks for all of the entries! Stay tuned for another contest next month… it is a great way to celebrate big events (like my upcoming 2-year blogiversary!)
With Carla off the needles, I decided to assess my current works-in-progress. Project Spectrum has helped me choose projects for the past four months. The yarn is in the stash, and I am just deciding how to use it best. The biggest “linger knit” is my Pomegranate Hoodie; named for the lovely color of the Woolarina yarn (and its striking similarity to my favorite fruit.)
Just as a reminder, this simple hoodie pattern is from the Knitting to Go deck. It calls for mohair, but I am using a laceweight hand-dyed merino, and it is working very well. The completed back looks “skinny” but will really open up after a good blocking. I started on a sleeve during last night’s hockey game, and plan to take this one to the beach with me this weekend. I started it in Project Spectrum’s Pink/Red month of March, and as the months passed and I started new color projects, it fell by the wayside.

My sock projects are a little behind this month, but I am not worried. I rarely wear socks in the summertime, but I plan to use the Summer of Socks and the Trek Along with Me knitalongs to enhance my sock drawer for the fall and winter. The Summer of Socks only counts socks knit between the Summer Solstice (tomorrow, June 21st) and the Autumnal Equinox (September 21st). So my Blueberry Waffle socks will not count for this, but my Trekking socks most definitely will… as soon as I decide on a pattern! I have a few in mind, but am very open to suggestions. For Trekking yarns, I prefer simple patterns, in order to show off the natural variegation/striping of the yarn.
I also started something new, and you will probably not see it again until it is finished.

It is another super secret sister knit- this time for Mimi. She turns 23 next month, and I wanted to do something special. That is all I am going to say about it - I want some element of surprise!
Our weekend was great - Saturday started early with our longest bike ride yet (18 miles) and later inthe afternoon, we took Kris’s dad out for dinner. On Sunday, I spent the day with my family. Unfortunately my camera had some problems, and I was not able to document any of it. The last picture I took was one of my sister making a ridiculous face - I think this picture must have broken it!
It was Dad’s day, but I spent a good time in the afternoon knitting with my mom. I brought over my swift and ballwinder, and we wound up her stash. She has some beautiful yarns - mostly from the Festival, and a few gifts from me.

She has been knitting and felting up a storm! She just completed her third felted purse. The large multi-colored one was my Mother’s Day gift to her - a felt kit from Cloverhill Yarn Shop. It is Lamb’s Pride Worsted and Noro Kuryeon. The smaller purses are both Sophie bags from MagKnits. She is planning her next project: she wants to make her first garment! |

I was rooting for the Oilers and I cried like a baby because I was so happy for the Hurricanes players. I was so happy for Brett Hedican and B’rindAmour. Hockey and knitting…doesn’t get much better than that.
lovely!
I recognize that purple reporter!
Please give your mom my compliments on her lovely bags. Can’t wait to see what else she comes out with!
I totally cried too when they brought out The Cup. Gives me goosebumps. I was lucky enough to be there when The Devils won their last Cup and it was just an awesome night! Nothing like it!!!
I was rooting for the Oilers as well, but I was so happy to see Brind’Amour win. He’ll always be a Flyer to me!
Love that basket! You must spend a fortune in yarn to have all of these projects going at once. Very cool!
Mom has a great stash! If you find a good pattern for the Trekking, let me know - I am still hunting for one!
I love that you’re working on the omo hoodie again, it’s so beautiful. You know that I loved that yarn from the moment I “enabled” you to buy it
The open nature of the knit and casual hoodie design all make me think that it’s a perfect summer and beach knit. You must be doing something elaborate for your sister to use all that yarn - she’ll be a lucky gal. Have fun making vacation preps!
I can’t wait to see the pullover! The color is of course fabulous.
I love the color of the hoodie. Have a great vacation.
I love the pic of Sudu. She is so silly. Keep up with the pom hoodie it looks great.
Mwah!
your pomegranate hoodie is very pretty :). I noticed it on Flickr yesterday.
Your mom’s felted bags are nice! I was just looking at some lovely ones at my LYS about an hour ago and was tempted with buying some yarn to make one. But didn’t. I’ve got enough yarn to last a freaking lifetime.
Love seeing all your projects! And, there’s nothing like seeing a basket full of yarn! Go Mom!
omg! it was such a good game! i loved how brind’amour was so excited and gary bettman had to tell him to wait to pick up the cup!
the hoodie is looking good!
I love the hoodie!
Your mom sure has some pretty colors in her stash… lots of purples & greens!
AND, I agree about last night’s game. It was awesome! We were cheering for the Canes… They have a lot of former St. Louis Blues players! YAY!!!
Secret sister knitting - how fun - love the color!
Your mom is really going to town with the knitting - I’m hoping to get my mom into some knitting soon - she is intrigued by the cotton bathmat in the Mason Dixon book.
What a luscious basket of yarn your mom has!
OH my, pomegranites are my fave too!!! I so love thta I can now by pomegranate juice at the grocery! Love the sweater too! I’ve been thinking about buying that book, now I may have too!!!
Yes , it was a great game last night! The hoodie and socks are really coming along too.
Wow, your mom is really doing great! You all must have wool in your blood.

Have fun at the beach!
Wow, look at your mom go! Yay!! I love your stripey blue socks, even if they won’t count… Maybe Dublin Bay for your Trekking? Mostly stockinette, with very simple lace panels on the leg.
Looks like you’ve got a lot of knitting going on. I love those blueberry socks!
you have a lot of work to do :0 can’t wait to see mimi’s gift! looks like it will be wonderful! i have been doing a ton of socks lately and i am taking a break from them starting tomm. to do a BLUE “bad penny” to celebrate this month! I am challenging myself to do it in 12 days!!!!!i also joined summer of socks, it sound like a lot of fun:)

Hi Lolly, I’m a little behind in my blogreading - just wanted to tell you that your Carla sweater is so beautiful! You look gorgeous too!

I love the pomogrante hoodie. A friend of mine has the Knitting on the Go deck, I may have to borrow that card! Also, I love the Trekking XXL, I have a skein in the same color for some summer socks!
OMG… I got that Knitting to Go deck for Christmas and didn’t get all the way through it to see that hoodie! How cute is that?? I love yours with that pomegranate yarn (perfect name for it!) - thanks for the heads up!!
I’m so glad it’s not just me with things lingering from previous months! Love the hoodie colour and I think it will look great when finished!
Carie
Your mom’s stash looks so pretty all wound up in little yarn muffins, placed ever so carefully in a basket all together. It’s just so cute!
I definately get choked up as well when that cup comes out and especially when all the guys carry it and kiss it. Very awesome. And so funny to see all the “playoff” beards on most the guys. Great game.
Yay for getting back to Pom Hoodie. I was wondering how that project was going. You may be able to get more than a sleeve done. That will be a nice project when finished. A smart idea to use laceweight merino instead. I thought it would be a nice project, but since I am allergic to mohair, I just didn’t bother.
Welcome back, Mr. Pom Hoodie. I was wondering about your whereabouts.
Very cute picture of your sis.
Go, Lolly Mom. The first garment is always so exciting. Can’t wait to see what she’ll pick.
I’m working on Summer of Socks and Trek With Me too- I want to have lots of new socks for the fall (and use up some of my overly large sock yarn stash!)
I love your phrase “linger knit”! I’ve never heard it before and it is such a perfect expression! I hope you enjoy your vacation, with a perfect combination of knitting and relaxing and fun.
Hi Lolly….Can you think of another yarn that would work with that “mohair hoodie”?
