My only plan thus far is a shopping bag or two knit with the Sugar ‘n Cream Ecru I have a cone of. And maybe getting around to making the mice for Isis that I bought yarn for months ago.

The knee highs look great in that shot!

  3. Amyon 02 Aug 2006 at 6:08 am

Haven’t totally planned the neutral month…but I’m planning to do another digital photo collage from Italy/Greece (like I did with blue). Maybe a black headkerchief, who know what else…

What a great assortment of neutrals to kick off the month!

  4. Kellyon 02 Aug 2006 at 7:20 am

I’m don’t use many neutral colors in my knitting or spinning. Don’t know why because I own a lot of brown and black clothing. I decided spinning something neutral would be fun since I have way too much on the needles right now. Great pics and your socks are looking good!

  5. Diane D.on 02 Aug 2006 at 7:28 am

I have been to old Ellicott City in a while – looks like I need to go! Great pictures.

  6. maryseon 02 Aug 2006 at 8:30 am

oh man, — hopefully i’ll actually get to do some project spectrum color knitting. still working on my july socks!

  7. Caroleon 02 Aug 2006 at 8:46 am

I’m spinning some dark grey merino/tencel blend fiber. The color is fabulous!

  8. Zarahon 02 Aug 2006 at 8:53 am

Your Rowan 4-ply is beautiful, I’m such a sucker for tweed. I love the progress you’re making on your socks, too!

  9. Amberon 02 Aug 2006 at 9:01 am

I saw that you have Spinnerin in your stash! How did you get that? I have an old Spinnerin pattern book from 1970.

  10. Liz K.on 02 Aug 2006 at 9:06 am

I think I am ripping out an old FO and re-purposing the yarn for something else. At least, that’s the plan on 8/2.

  11. yahairaon 02 Aug 2006 at 9:11 am

love the pics and cant wait to see your knee highs!

  12. The Purloined Letteron 02 Aug 2006 at 10:00 am

Ah–neutrals! THIS is the month for me.

In honor of the theme of the month, I finished and blocked Icarus, knit in a pale gray. I’m working on an Irish Hiking Scarf in a mid-toned greyish tan. And cream-colored Pi, still waiting for the border, and I are going to get reunited this month!

Part of my goal for the month is to finish up some UFOs–hence the above list–but by the end of the month I want to cast on the first few rows of a black cotton-and-wool cabled lacy shawl. More details when I get closer.

  13. Meganon 02 Aug 2006 at 10:18 am

I know I’m not official as far as project spectrum is concerned (though I will certainly be signing up if you throw another!) but I am working on my icarus in a khakish color!

  14. Elizabethon 02 Aug 2006 at 10:28 am

I love your neutral photos – and can’t wait to see those lace knee-highs. I love that pattern. I didn’t finish my July project, so I’m keeping the August project small – a pair of black lace socks.

  15. Jennaon 02 Aug 2006 at 10:41 am

I think this will be a fun month because the term “neutral” is open to interpretation. I’m planning to keep an eye out for neutrals around me, plus of course I’m hoping to finish Carla. I have other yarns that would be appropriate nad pattern ideas for them, but I may be too excited to work on some of my other things.

I see some of the leftovers I foisted upon you in that yarn pile :) They’d be good for a hat something, if you’re so inclined.

  16. Staceyon 02 Aug 2006 at 10:42 am

I’ve been loooking forward to this month too, though I’m not sure about my neutral stash! Note to self – check it tonight! :) The socks are looking very pretty!

  17. Gingeron 02 Aug 2006 at 11:49 am

I’ll be knitting up a pair of brown socks for my BIL, starting on the holiday knitting, not sure what else. Most of my current or planned projects are not in neutral colors.

  18. Peggyon 02 Aug 2006 at 12:10 pm

Oooooh… I love your neutral stash! Especially the knitpicks yarn! It’s beautiful!

  19. Jennon 02 Aug 2006 at 1:19 pm

Oh, I love brown and am so jealous of your stash! I’m working on the Embossed Leaves socks from IK (I think it was winter of 2005?) in a pretty, subtly variegated gray, and I’m going to cast on for a sweater for my (52 inch chest, sob!) husband soon, that will be brown. And I’m still working on my purple Trekking sock, but let’s not go there, haha.

I love Cotton Ease so much, why did they have to take it away? *sniff*

  20. Chrison 02 Aug 2006 at 1:20 pm

You were so prepared! Lovely photos. I’ll keep working on my moderne log cabin baby blanket, which has tan in it. I’d love to start a pair of neutrally colored Regia Silk socks, but I think I have too many other knitting obligations… I’ll also take lots of black kitty pictures, as per usual. :)

  21. mayaon 02 Aug 2006 at 4:57 pm

I saw project spectrum (and you specifically) got a nod from Amy Singer in the Fall IK. Sweet! Good for you!

I love the august colors. Makes me wish even more for autumn weather…

  22. catherineon 02 Aug 2006 at 5:09 pm

the stars reminded me of the “lone star” state…… i Love neutral colors!!!!!

  23. iselon 02 Aug 2006 at 5:11 pm

You’re too fast, Lolly. I can’t keep up!

Finally, my favorite colors to knit with. Yay. Let’s see if I can catch up.

I would love to do PS again. I got lost somewhere and never got back on track. Shame on me.

Love the sexy socks and the pictures.

  24. margeneon 02 Aug 2006 at 5:18 pm

I confess to a little funk now that the colorful part of PS is over. Your knitting looks grand but I think I’ll work on cleaning up my blue and purple projects this month. Your socks are going to be so fun!

  25. Amy Janeon 02 Aug 2006 at 5:21 pm

Your stash lookis wonderful-love the colors-but I especially love your pics of the stars and frames-great perspectives!

    Amy

  26. Lizon 02 Aug 2006 at 5:49 pm

This is the month I’ve been waiting for. I’ve got a new grey knit started, and I also plan on picking up my Sesame again – also in black Cotton Ease.

  27. Jenniferon 02 Aug 2006 at 6:12 pm

Neutrals… Well, I don’t have any plans perse… I’m sure I’ll come up with something. I like your montage!

  28. Monion 02 Aug 2006 at 6:28 pm

I’ve been looking forward to the neutral month, too! I have the “fancy evening sock” (I think that’s what it’s called) from Knitting Vintage Socks (Nancy Bush) planned in a very neutral gray. And maybe another pair of socks if I can finish the “fancy” ones.

  29. jackieon 02 Aug 2006 at 6:42 pm

This post is reminding me to Flickr my blue&purple July necklace quickly so I can make room for August!

Did you see those antique ceiling tiles in Ellicott City? Those are beautiful! We have some pressed-tin ceilings and walls in our house that are painted white and I just love them.

  30. Kimon 02 Aug 2006 at 11:28 pm

I LOVE those antique tiles! And your brown sock yarn. This is a couple days late, but I’m interested in a re-visit to Project Spectrum. I didn’t participate this past time, but got kinda interested in it at the end; I liked how multimedia it went. Not sure how enthusiastically I’ll participate in things like postcard swaps, etc. but I’m definitely in for this next look at the colors of our lives! Thank you for doing this wonderful creative project and putting it out to blogland!

  31. Raganon 03 Aug 2006 at 8:40 am

I love the neutral colors! I have to look through my stash to see what I can come up with for this month!

  32. Momon 03 Aug 2006 at 8:58 am

Love those stars and ceiling tiles! The scarf is coming along. XXOO

  33. Annarellaon 03 Aug 2006 at 9:25 am

My giveaway is all about black this month: http://www.annarella.co.uk/blog/2006/august.htm#146

  34. Lyndsey-Janeon 03 Aug 2006 at 4:28 pm

I was planning on using some light grey rowanspun 4ply for some socks, but it didn’t work well with the pattern (which is for another kal) so undersided. I may make some wristwarmers with it, quite like Lucky K8 from Knitty from Magknits.

  35. aiaron 03 Aug 2006 at 4:54 pm

I’ve signed up for project spectrum, but I don’t know if I’m maybe too late to officially participate… ? In any case, I’ll produce items with the neutral/black & white theme this month as a personal challenge. I focus on sewing, but this will force me to explore some other ideas I’ve had kicking around for a good long time now! Just wish I’d found this sooner. Are there plans to have a second round?

  36. jami howardon 03 Aug 2006 at 8:03 pm

LOVERLY!!!!……ps: im an AUNT now!!! :) :) :) check out my latest post ;)

  37. allisonon 04 Aug 2006 at 9:05 am

Beauteous sock! I’m hoping to finish the brown linen tank I started about a month ago. It’s still warm (read: muggy and roasting) enough that I think I’ll be able to wear it before summer’s over. PS. I’m having a contest over on my blog – it’s really easy to enter, and I hope you will :)

  38. heatheron 04 Aug 2006 at 9:38 am

White! A white orangina for my neutral…come on – you know you want to knit one too…see? you’ve got to be ensnared in the orangina’s spell!

I love neutrals…I’ll have to work hard to get this one done!

  39. Erinon 04 Aug 2006 at 4:23 pm

I’m excited to see how your lace knee-highs turn out!

  40. Fifty Decemberson 04 Aug 2006 at 4:50 pm

I have my yarns – Patons Evita – in black/white/gray mix – but have not decided what I want to use (if anything) with it… and still am not sure what I am going to make – but will come up with my idea over the weekend. I want to finish my “Purple” challenge tonight and Saturday before I begin!

  41. meganon 05 Aug 2006 at 9:22 am

August is time for me to get back in the swing of Project Spectrum! Lots of neutrals around here to photograph, and maybe some home decorations too! And by the way, I saw your shout-out in the Fall Interweave yesterday – hooray!

  42. Suzanneon 05 Aug 2006 at 11:34 am

Lolly! Congratulations on your mention in IK this issue! How exciting! Did you know that Amy Singer was going to mention you and your super-cool project? Can’t wait to see the knee highs!

  43. Staceyon 05 Aug 2006 at 2:26 pm

Looking forward to seeing the progress of Sesame and the Knee socks since I am interested in making both.

  44. Suzanneon 05 Aug 2006 at 7:51 pm

Yeah for neutrals! I haven’t planned any neutral knitting this month, but I took lots of photos today!

  45. Jodyon 07 Aug 2006 at 9:26 am

I saw those tin stars in Ellicott city this weekend! I was at La Palapa on Saturday :)

I am going to make a celtic cabled bag with a neutral beige Irish Tweed. I got this skein from my Secret pal and I’m eager to try something with it. i think the neutral beige color will show off the cables beautifully.
