Honeymoon’s Over

Published by lolly at 4:13 pm under Grad School, Project Spectrum, Sesame Cardigan

Eat, drink and be merry… for tomorrow we start school.

Its not like it was a long honeymoon.  I finished my summer class in the beginning of August and luckily had a brief respite before fall semester courses begin tomorrow, and I have been working at the Archives the whole time… basically it just meant that I didn't have to feel guilty for knitting instead of doing my reading assignments…  fall semester always seems so much harder to me, for some reason.  This semester I am taking my last Library Science class, and a French Revolution class for my history degree.  Since this is my last semester in the Library Science program, I will be taking comprehensive examinations the last weekend in October, and if everything goes well (as planned!), I will complete my Masters of Library Science in December - Lolly, MLS! (yeah, still have a few more classes before the History is done - but one has to celebrate each step along the way!)

So, with hours of homework just a few days away, I decided to have a fun weekend! a little hoorah before the brunt of books, papers, and day-long exams hit me full-force.

Jen, Coleen, Minty, me, Diane, Heather, and Sarah (not pictured)

Minty was in town visiting family, but she was able to sneak away for a few hours to join the Maryland girls at All About Yarn and the local café for some knitty action! It was a great time!!

I managed to get out of the yarn shop without any damage to my wallet, and to my Summer of Stash commitment! (despite all of their sale bins and new yarns and samples…ah, one more week…)

Lest you think that I only destroy sweaters… I put some good time in on my Sesame cardigan while knitting with the group.

I am working the left and right fronts of the garment at the same time, and it is going pretty quickly. They look like sleeves at this point, but when I pick up stitches for the button band, it will be wider.  I can't wait to wear this cardigan - it will definitely be a staple in my wardrobe.  And I already have the perfect accessories to match it, many thanks to dear Anjo!  Anjo sent me a lovely Project Spectrum package with so many neutral goodies, and she sent out goodie bags to all the commenters on her blog - how generous is that?? This black and white fabric pin, and the purse in the background were part of my package.  Thank you so much, girl.  Your creativity and generosity are a real inspiration!

And as Project Spectrum comes to a close (can you even believe that six months went SO fast?), I just want to thank all of you who participated in this project, and shared your energy and creativity.  The Project Spectrum Flickr group is a constant source of inspiration for me - please check it out if you want to see the work of other participants, or if you would like to include your project photos for any month.  September will be a Project Spectrum Clean Sweep month - pull out any of those lingering projects you have from color months past and get cracking, my friends! I will be working diligently on some of my previous projects, in particular my Sesame, and my Pomegranate Hoodie… September will be a virtual Craft Parade of Color! What are you planning to finish?

Good luck with the semester. Ever try knitting while reading? Doesn’t work for writing papers, though. . .

What a great way to have some fun before school started! I love yarning with the gals!

  10. Katon 28 Aug 2006 at 7:00 pm

Eep! I was thinking of going for the same master’s degree!

I think I have the most trouble with spring classes, because I tend to overload myself with courses every semester, and by the time fall classes are over, I’m incredibly burnt out. I find fall easier, though, because summer is generally a pretty boring time for me.

  11. cordeliaknitson 28 Aug 2006 at 7:00 pm

Yikes! I can’t believe school is starting again! I always find the spring semester more difficult than fall, though–probably because fall still retains a little bit of that excitement of new beginnings I used to feel when I was little.

Good luck with your classes! If you figure out how to knit while writing papers, let us know.

That great that your almost done! It’s nice you got to have a little fun before school begins!

I just want to say thanks so much for project spectrum. I had a blast working with colors I may not have worked with otherwise. I think this September I will try and finish my purple mystery stole.

Yey to be almost done with school. As I sit here contemplating going back to get an MLS…I already have of MA in Education…moving on….

Looks like the itty bitty booties I started for Aug. will not be finished on time…so that’s what I’ll be working on through Sept. :). I keep my sites aimed low when I’m in the midst of 10 day drudgeries…

This whole color thing has been a blast.

You look great in the photo. All the hard work at the gym has paid off big time. Do not stress about school you will do a great job!

  17. Kathyon 29 Aug 2006 at 9:03 am

I just need to re-knit the collar/button band on Something Blue in September, and I’m done! I decided I’ll never wear the Lotus Blossom tank, so ripped that the other night.

I hope you enjoyed your respite - now back to the books! My assistant had his first day back at school yesterday, and he already looks tired.

  18. mayaon 29 Aug 2006 at 9:26 am

I was also going to say what some other commenters have said - you look great in that photo! Really healthy and svelt. Go Lolly!

I was thinking Seseme Cardigan would be my next sweater project. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out.

  19. Chrison 29 Aug 2006 at 9:31 am

That is fantastic news about school, Lolly! Time will fly and soon you’ll be certified already and with a job and all! :-)

  22. Jennaon 29 Aug 2006 at 10:29 am

Nothing like a little knitty fun to take away the blues before school starts. Fall does seem to have that possibility of new beginnings - I guess for you it’s the beginning of the end of your library classes.

I love that sesame cardigan, in black it will be the perfect go with everything sweater. Embellishments like that pin will make it so cute.

Did you get my email about this weekend?

  23. Suzanneon 29 Aug 2006 at 11:10 am

Sounds like a fun time and just what you needed before starting school again.

I’m impressed with you not buying any yarn…good for you!

That looks like a great time. Your sweater accessories are awesome.

  26. Annon 29 Aug 2006 at 12:34 pm

Congratulations on getting so far with your studies!

That black sweater is so beautiful–I don’t think I’ve EVER seen anybody knitting a black sweater, and it’s so striking that ME WANT ONE.

  27. Terrion 29 Aug 2006 at 1:15 pm

Wow, this is your last semester? That is great. Pre-congratulations.

I know what you mean about the Fall semester. I finished my paralegal program while working full-time, and there was something about doing all that school-work during the holiday rush that just wore me out. It still gives me the heebie-jeebies just seeing all the school supplies out in the stores in August! Yecch.

  28. heatheron 29 Aug 2006 at 5:16 pm

WAHOO! last semester…I know how hard you’ve worked…and all the dedication you showed…you are in the homestretch, Gf…

PS has been a wonderful way to see the spectrum of creativity for knitting…I know I branched out with colors I wouldn’t have a while ago!

  29. Saraon 29 Aug 2006 at 7:11 pm

Congrats on being almost done with school!! How awesome!!

  30. catherineon 29 Aug 2006 at 9:38 pm

  31. Jodyon 30 Aug 2006 at 2:37 am

You rock! You will be so happy with the studying is over and you can sit back and bask in the glow of your new degree! Congrats!!

  32. KnitPastison 30 Aug 2006 at 8:24 am

Wow, your last semester of school, congrats! Your black sweater should be perfect for keeping you warm at work…libraries are always so cold and Barnes n Nobles, lol .
I had such a fun time with Project Spectrum and I am happy to say that I don’t have any unfinished projects laying around. I hope you will be having another PS!

  33. Rebeccaon 30 Aug 2006 at 12:44 pm

Good for you, Lolly with the almost-done-Masters-degree! I’m a history major myself and know how much reading is involved with that major. I’ve spent much time at the National Archives doing genealogy research. I’m assuming that is the same “Archives” you spoke of. Enjoy your very brief respite..that is redundant, isn’t it. Also, I enjoyed the two months that I participated in the Project Spectrum Postcard Swap. BTW, you look fab in your sleeveless top — you can tell your workout and weight-loss pgm are workiing for you.

  34. Sarahon 30 Aug 2006 at 5:09 pm

Ah, I feel the same way. I’ve spent the last 2 weeks knitting and letting my mind go to mush. Yesterday was the end of all that… sigh…

  35. Erinon 30 Aug 2006 at 7:33 pm

I’m back at school too… finding the time to do everything again is definitely more of a challenge than I remember it being!
