Coming Attractions
Socktoberfest is off to an amazing start! Many thanks to all of you for sharing your excitement and your enthusiasm for this project, and for sock making in general. I loved reading your sock histories too, it is truly fascintating! I hope you have the time to read some other histories too. It is great to learn more about each other in this way. We have a great thing going here!
I wanted to let you know what to expect in the coming days and weeks. The schedule is still being ironed out, but I have some really fun things lined up!
Week One: Introductions, Beginner's Tutorials, Sharing Stories and Experiences
Week Two: Review Week – Books, Yarns, Needles – have some sock-related reviews to share? Let me know and I will link to your blog or website. Any reviews are welcome, share your experiences with other Socktoberists! Also stay tuned for a blog tour interview with knitter/spinner Shannon Okey, with details about her new book, Spin to Knit: The Knitter's Guide to Making Yarn. It's gonna be great!
Week Three and Four: Tutorials and Interviews! There are several tutorials already posted in this blogosphere about sock making, however, there are some crafters among us who are putting together some great tutorials specifically for Socktoberfest! I started a Flickr discussion group, and the suggestions for tutorials are also coming in. If you have some great tips and techniques to share, don't hesitate to contact me and I will gladly link to your photo – tutorial, or even host it here as a "guest blog" entry. Thank you!
…and on the interview front… Big plans, my friends! I am not usually a name dropper… but, when they are these names, I have to share! Expect some great interviews in the second-half of the month! Wanna take a peek into my inbox?
Week Five (all three days of it!): Sock Parade! Show off your socks! Show us how you wear them on a daily basis. Are you a sock artist and a fashionista? Show off your sock style with some fun photos!
And on Halloween Day… the NAME DRAWINGS for the ever-growing list of socky prizes! (If you are interested in donating, please let me know!) I am compiling a list, that I will post here, with the names and links of the shops and the individuals who have made generous donations! Stay tuned!
Is something missing that you were really hoping to see or learn about? Please let me know! We can try to fit it in! Thank goodness October is a long month!

I’d love for you to post something about our favorite sock gadgets (perhaps a request that people can respond to in the comments?). Sock kits? those little bags that hang from your belt? the clip-over-your-DPNs-and-sock-in-progress protectors? etc.
I love your encouraging and enthusiastic style in these posts!
Sounds fantastic! Thanks for all your hard work. It is truly appreciated:)
Your organization, enthusiasm, and generosity are mind-boggling! Thank you so much for hosting this for us!!!

I’m glad it’s a long month too:) You have so much packed in I wouldn’t want to miss a second of it! This is a perfect way for the “Year of the Sock” to wind down.
Lolly, you are simply amazing. I don’t think there are words that even begin to describe how motivating your enthusiasm is, or how much you are appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time out to organize this event. Your skill for bringing knitters around the world together is truly awe-inspiring.
Hey, I’m looking for a review if anyone is interested in sharing. I would like to know how Knit Picks circulars measure up to Addi Turbos. Just curious, looking to make the better investment.
I’m looking forward to this! I’ve got a pair of socks on the needles but it’s been going slowly since classes started. Thanks for doing this! You’re doing a great job.
I’m going to add to this chorus of grateful folks and say that I’m so excited for all of these events to play out over the month! Your business cards should read “knitting networker and ideas woman.” I gotta get my ass in gear with posting!
Oh my gosh.. You really have a great month planned. I just finished up with my secret pal thing.. On to making socks… Hopefully in the next day or two I will have more progress made on my sock. Maybe even the heel done!! One can only hope.. Plus I got new sock yarn in the mail today!! Woo Hoooo!!! This is really great of you to do!!

I’m hoping that one of the tutorials will be about crocheting sock, please! That would be great. I still haven’t found any of the other sock crocheters out there, where y’all at?

I finally (FINALLY) finished my PS July socks in Trekking on October 2nd, do they still count for Socktober if it took me three months to get them done? (Picture is up on my blog and on FLickr if you wanna take a peek)
I’m so excited that it is Socktober, I can hardly contain myself!
