Scarf Knitting

Scarf knitting is going on during Socktoberfest!

(Hey, there is no rule that you only knit socks this month)

Coleen caught me in the act at the last knit nite!

This is the scarf I am making for my International Scarf Pal.  It is Malabrigo in the Forest colorway, which is everything it is cracked up to be and maybe even more (I bought it from Kaleidoscope Yarns).  I am using the fun and fabulous "My So Called Scarf" pattern.

I have to hurry too!  My pal (whose identity is top secret!) reports that it is getting cold, and the region already had their first SNOW!

I can't let my pal have a cold neck!

Of course, sock knitting is also occuring – don't you worry your pretty little head about it! ;)

*Have a good weekend!*

Oh that scarf looks lucsious. I must give that Malbrigo a try here, very soon. I feel as though I am consumed with scarf knitting. I shouldn’t have picked such a tasking pattern. I really hope my pal loves it!

BTW, I am in total agreeance with Not Scarlett Sarah. I will SO back you if you’d like to take over the world. You are just so great! xoxoxoxo

I have updated my blog with photos of my sock stash and my current status towards my Soctoberfests goals.

  3. margene

Fun scarf! It’s a great time of year to knit pretty scarves. Sock on!

  4. Melissa A.

I can’t believe people are getting snow already. Yesterday we had torrential rain! Oh, bless that maritime weather! I totally wear my scarf every day anyway, since it’s also windy in Halifax.

  5. Vera

Very pretty scarf. I’ve been knitting one too.

  6. Cookie

Love the colors of the scarf! I’ll be knitting a scarf this month too for a bday present. Now I don’t have to feel guilty about not dedicating myself entirely to socks!

  7. Dorothy B

    That is a gorgeous scarf.

I don’t think that there are very many monagamous knitters are there?

  8. kristin

Love the my so called scarf. Pretty yarn!

  9. MJ

    I can keep a secret!!
For a price – how about CHOCOLATE!!!
    hehe

    Beautiful scarf!!

  10. Shelley

What a great looking scarf! I’m sure your secret pal is going to love it!

  11. maryse

oh man. i haven’t even started my socks for soctoberfest.

  12. Leslie

So pretty! I’m dying to knit with Malabrigo!!!

  13. Julie

LOL, I’ve been keeping the same secret. Knitting socks for me (hopefully in time to wear to Rhinebeck), but also doing some swap knitting, and well, the Christmas knitting had to start sometime…

  14. Stacey

i was looking at this scarf to use with my malabrigo but was unsure. after seeing yours, i think i’ll give it a try – well when i can knit again i will.

  15. mrsbee

Your post is so funny today, because I just got done posting about the same thing! LOL! Now I don’t feel so bad about working on my long-neglected scarf projects. I guess the Spirit of Socktoberfest guided my hands to the scarf instead of the socks! Yeah, that’s it…..now I have an excuse! :)

  16. Zarah

Pretty colors! Your pal will love it.

  17. Coleen

It makes me feel better about not working on my socks knowing that you aren’t either! :)

  18. Tara

Pretty scarf! And I just read about the train woman-how odd! Did she think you sit around and make socks for strangers for free? I’ve had people ask me how much something would cost…but never demand, like that!

  19. Andrea

I’ve been admiring that scarf on flickr! I need to make myself one of those. :)

  20. Nery

Love the yarn and the pattern. Can you tell me what cast on method you used and how you are going to bind off. I had seen that pattern before but the instructions were a little unclear and I was afraid to experiment. Let us know ok!!! :) BTW, hilarious post about the sock/train/weirdo. I realized I had not knit myself a scarf EVER because I was busy making everyone else a scarf or a hat. Ok, that has to stop!

  21. Brandy

    That is beautiful!!!

  22. Beth

Well, there are times that are just not well suited to sock knitting. Hmmm … that’s not completely true but I when I need to concentrate or count I don’t bring that knitting along to places like doctor’s offices where I might get interrupted mid-row. For those places a simple stockinette sock will do but I don’t have one on the needles right now.

So I’ve been scarf knitting, too. My Irish Hiking Scarf is almost complete. I’m working on Besotted next.

  23. Suzanne

Looks great! I love the color. I think it’s funny we chose the same pattern!

  24. Lara

    Gorgeous scarf!

I’m glad there’s no rule against knitting things other than socks during socktoberfest. LOL. Or against cross-stitching madly to try to get a wedding gift done in time.

  25. georgia

i have to try that yarn. it looks so yummy!

  26. Erin

I LOVE those colors. The pattern is perfect for it. I know the scarf is going to be fab.

  27. Diane D.

It was very difficult to keep from ratting on you – “Lolly, Socktoberfest Queen, Spotted Knitting Scarf at Panera!!” It’s a beautiful scarf though.

  28. Hillary

Ooh, I’ve been dying to make this! How much Malabrigo did you use?

  29. Dana

don’t you love the malabrigo???!! i’m using it for the first time, and i can’t believe what a great yarn it is. your scarf exchange pal will be nice and toasty!

and that was quite a store from your last post! definitely an odd woman…

  30. Nichole R.

I just finished that exact scarf, but in the “Velvet Grapes” colorway! I love the Malabrigo and the pattern is perfect for it. Your looks wonderful!

  31. Suz

    Whew!

Now i don’t feel so bad about straying from my sock and casting on for mittens today! :)

That colorway and pattern are so nice together!

    ~Suz~

  32. Carol

I like that color very much & lets the stitches (love em) show really well.

  33. Jenneke

I have to admit I’ve been working on a scarf too… When I’m tired, I don’t work on socks but just garter stitch along…

  34. Dave

Glad I’m not the only one … LOL !!

  35. Amanda Cathleen

*L* Great picture Lolly! Loven your scarf, the various shades of green are gorgeous :-)

  36. Bee

I’m knitting the Irish Hiking Scarf in Malabrigo too…and I love love it. It’s sooo soft…I heard it’s softer than Manos too. Your scarf looks great! Is the stitch pattern hard on your hands? It was at first for me because I was knitting too tightly but I’m getting used to it. It’s a fantastic scarf pattern.

  37. Rossana

I think you need a scarf, too. In blue! Lolly Blue! =) Kind of like June Carter Cash had her own June Blue color.

  38. BrownPants

    Oooooh, that green looks divine!

  39. Tammany

Oh, my gosh! I love that scarf. How many balls are you using to make it? Must. Make. That. Scarf.

  40. shadkitty

I’ve been admiring the Malabrigo yarn…do you love it?

  41. Julia

Monogamy does not exsist in knit blog land! Mwahaha! I love your scarf, I have a serious thing for green…..

  42. Kelly

It’s ok Lolly I’m knitting a scarf too along with my sock knitting of course. Love that color green !

  43. Jennifer

    Gorgeous! Malabrigo is so yummy.

  44. Gracie

    Beautiful! The pattern is great.

  45. Yarnophiliac

Your scarf if FAB! I am dying to try that pattern, and I have a skein of Malabrigo intended for a hat for my son (I believe it is the same gorgeous green colorway) but I just may have to switch gears on that one. Also, I finally finished my sock pattern and put it up on the blog in honor of Socktoberfest! One goal accomplished! I’d love to know what you think. (oh, and as for the crazy lady in the last post — you go, lollygirl! total psycho!)

  46. Erin

There’s nothing wrong with knitting something other than socks! If there’s one thing I know about knitters, we need variety!

By the way, your lady on the train story was crazy. I can’t believe anyone would be that bold!

  47. Kimberly

OH I’m not complete unless I have several UFO’s going on at one time. Socks are always one of them. I love your scarf.

  48. Jenna

OOOooooh, Lolly, I’m telling!! Hehe, you’re so cute, especially in your “secret” picture. I hope being in socktoberfest doesn’t mean you can only knit socks, because I finished a scarf for charity this week.

See you a la fiesta verde!

  49. Elizabeth

Beautiful scarf—color, pattern, yarn!!! What a lucky recipient!!!!!

  50. tiennie

Beautiful scarf Lolly!! Shh… my lips are sealed – won’t tell, unless someone offers me chocolate then I’m singin’!
