Reeling and Dealing

…Reeling from all of the yarn…

…Dealing with all of the work I need to catch up on…

While not quite the sensory overload that Maryland Sheep and Wool festival brought back in May, the Stitches East 2006 DID bring a yarn hangover, and I am trying to deal with that appropriately. I hit the hard concrete floors of the Baltimore Convention Center two days in a row: Saturday, where I met up with friends, and Sunday with mommy dearest.

I bought a lot of stuff. I bought a lot of stuff to add to my already existing stuff. I am thrilled with my purchases, yet, it makes me feel the need for another yarn diet… however, I don't know if I can completely make that commitment a few days before I leave for vacation, with the siren song of "souvenir yarn" calling to me…

There were blaring announcements over the Convention Center's loud speaker about every 10 minutes: "Absolutely no photography is permitted…", so, I played it straight and did not snap photos [seriously, it hurt!], I guess you can say I was scared what the fiber police would do if I was caught in the act! I am sure that some clandestine photos will surface, however…

Saturday morning started with friendly faces and some warm coffee… Suzanne and Jenna hopped up from DC, and we got breakfast with some of my knit group pals before heading up to Baltimore. I had the chance to meet some other very nice bloggers and knitters standing in lines and perusing, like Jane and her sister Lawre, Saun, Lola, Theresa, Susan, Sarah and Paula. Tanya, Beth, Harriet, Debbie, Chelsea, and Larissa, if you are reading today, it was a pleasure to see you! :) I met some authors and designers as well, and I was thrilled to get my books signed by them. More on that after I take some photographs!

In the afternoon, we met up with Stacey, Erin, and Eunny and did some more shopping and plenty of yarn-pushing… I figured, I was buying so much, and I had to make my friends do the same!

Jenna and Stacey's Purchases After the festival, laden with bags full of yarn, Jenna, Stacey and I headed over to an one of my Baltimore favorites, One World Cafe on University. We had a great veggie dinner, and great conversations about our projects, our new yarns, and just life in general.

Stacey was visiting family in my town, and it was so great to have her here for the show! Jenna and I headed back to mi casa to hang out and evaluate our purchases. We pulled our bags out and just looked at all of the yummy yarns. And in our yarn-induced stupor, we pulled out our prize purchases of the day for a small (and ridiculous) photoshoot.

Jenna got her STR, and I scored some Noro for Norovember!

More details about my purchases, and my Sunday at the Market when I have my pics ready to go… plus, I am behind on emails and post-Socktoberfest wrap-ups, so I will update on those too ;)
Stay tuned…

Thanks for a wonderful day filled with yarn-induced hysteria. I liked that it had a lower level of craziness than S&W, it allowed me to feel good about taking our time and exploring. I totally understand your feelings about a yarn diet though, I have enough yarn for a good, long time and I feel like I need to STOP.
I can’t beleive those pics of me are on the internet. Can I clarify that no drinking or drug use was involved in the taking of those photos? It was all yarn-related excitement.

That looks like it was so much fun. Waiting to see the purchases :)

I’m glad you had fun. And you look good, Girl. Your weight loss is an inspiration to me.

Boy, Lolly, you are good–remembering me. Well, more like remembering my name! I’m sure I wasn’t hard to remember–the grinning idiot that I was. Silly, but I guess I was a little star-struck. Heehee!

It was very nice meeting you, too!!

Sorry I missed you there. Those hard floors were something else but the yarn was worth the achy feet. I can’t wait to see what you got.

Yarn Hangover..I *love* that phrase. I can totally relate. When I went to stitches west two years ago I had the same experience. I was totally high the day I got home that I couldn’t stand it and then the next day it was yarn hangover time :P . Looks like you had a blast, tho! and that’s what counts :)

I’m glad you had such a good time! They had that rule at Stitches West too. It makes it hard for blogging purposes.

  22. Kimberly

    Oh that sounds like fun!

    Sounds like a great time!

  24. Amy

Sounds like Stitches East was as fun for you as Stitches Midwest was for me! :) All of my knitting in the last week has been yarn that I picked up there. Can’t wait to see more details about your haul.

[...] and who doesn’t read blogs to live vicariously through the lucky people on the east coast? stacey and other east coasters show off rhinebeck/stitches east stories and pictures!! wow. what a mix of happiness and jealously that i feel for these knitters! [...]

Question: If one can choose to go to either Stiches East, or the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, which should one choose? I ask because my knitting gaggle and I are plannning our next year’s trips, and while one of them has to be to SAFF – it’s local after all, and we really did have a lot of fun – we want to do another. Stitches is doable, if a bit of travelling for us from way down in South Carolina, but I thought I’d ask someone that’s been to both. :)
