Transport Knits

Published by lolly at 1:07 pm under Cherie, Kolsva Cowl, Travel, USA - California

I made some real knitting progress on the plane while watching ridiculous in-flight movies starring Will Ferrell.  I laughed so hard I nearly dropped a stitch! :)

On the five and a half hour flight from Baltimore to San Francisco, I completed sleeve one of the Kolsva cowl pullover.  I am thrilled with the way this Noro Kochoran (#17) is knitting up. The sweater is actually knit up in reverse stockinette, so the right (wrong) side is displayed.

Kolsva Sleeve #1

Forgive the poorly-lit-hotel-room photograph.
It does not do the yarn justice!

Cherie has also seen some action, mainly on my bus ride down to Monterey on Friday, and on the train rides around San Francisco.  I am about 8 inches into the body, with about 6 more before the arm hole decreases.

In an absolute lapse - one that I can only blame on excitement! - I walked right out of the hotel room without my camera when I was heading to the city with Leslie for some brunch and yarn shopping.  However, Leslie in her brilliance, suggested I pick up a disposable camera at the nearby convenience store.  I did just that and captured some good (hopefully!) pictures of the yarn shop, our time together, and some surrounding my museum visit yesterday afternoon.

So, a full report, with pictures, will hopefully follow.  I can tell you that Leslie is amazing, and so kind.  We had a very nice time talking and browsing the yarn shop.  If we are lucky, she may just start her own blog so we can keep up with her lovely knitting! (She is currently working on a Trekking XXL sock in colorway 109, and it is so nice!) :)  Thank you so much, Leslie, for the wonderful day!!

Kris and I are leaving for Napa Valley today, with a small detour to Muir Woods for some hiking.  I am not sure what kind of internet access we will have in Napa, so another post may not come until Friday or Saturday, when I return to Maryland.

Best wishes!

Hotel lighting might not be the best, but the grid of the hotel bedspread is definitly a creative backdrop for your knits! Can’t wait to see your around-town pictures soon.

Thanks for the update. The Noro looks beautfiul. Owing to inspiration from you, I am going great guns on my first pair of fetching handwarmers — in a lovely color called blueberry from Spritely Goods. In a sport/DK weight, I’m knitting double on size three needles….. I sense a Christmas favorite in the making.

I love the way both are knitting up. Especially the Kochoran sweater. Lovely!

Have a fantastic time in Napa!

I am feeling the no camera thing right now! Our digital died, leaving us with film and it’s been really hard to find any film anywhere. I feel so obsolete.

Yay for disposable cameras. I think they even make disposable digitals now (?) but I have yet to use one.

It is funny hearing about your trip to California. I was born and raised in Napa and never really thought anything of it until I got older (it is beautiful). I now live in San Jose (south from Napa). Anyway it is funny because I want to visit your neck of the woods and will do so this June. I have never been back east, so I look forward to visiting. I am glad you are enjoying your vacation. There is a great yarn shop in St. Helena called Muse (BTW:))

It’s good that you’re finding time to fit in some knitting, especially on those two lovely projects.

Enjoy the rest of your time, and don’t drink too much wine!

That Noro is looking fabulous, but who can really resist Noro?

I love the pictures from your vacation!

Oh and I forgot to mention that we both bought the Araucania Nature Wool in the same color! I’m planning on using it for a top down cabeled sweater. What do you have in mind?

I am loving the Noro you picked for Kolsva. The colors are gorgey. Cherrie is looking fab too, but c’mon, how can you beat red tweed. You just can’t.

Can’t wait to see your SF pics! What a perfect fall trip…

The Noro colors are just lovely! Very tempting!

  23. Carolon 13 Nov 2006 at 4:22 pm

The lighting may have been bad, but the knitting looks great! Looking forward to more photos!

Glad you’re having a good time in San Francisco. Sorry it’s rainy here today, but it should clear up tomorrow! I think we are in parallel flight universes, because I just flew back from Stitches East (and a little side trip to Philadelphia) and am now back home in the city by the bay. Saw the same nutty Will Farrell movie on the plane…..

Have a good time, don’t miss Imagiknit!

Enjoy Napa! My parents live there now and that’s where I did my last year of high school. If you’re going wine tasting (which I assume you are!) check out V. Sattui. It’s my favorite winery up there. The knitting looks great - you always seem to fly through things!

  28. bethon 14 Nov 2006 at 9:05 am

Ooooh, have fun in Napa! I’ve always wanted to go there:)

I just love transport knits! It is the best way I can thing of for not waisting time sitting there and not knowing what to do with your hands… LOL

It sounds like you’re having so much fun on your vacation. I’m dying to see how your cherie turns out too. I just got a rockin deal on Rowan tweediness and think I’d like to use it for that one.
