Mon Cherie
My Cherie sweater went to California with me for vacation. She was my constant companion as we traveled around in the rental car. A few rows here and there (between the wine tastings!), and before I knew it, I was done with the back and the front. I have since started the first sleeve.
The few bloggers that have made this sweater have reported some problems with the measurements: both in the neckline, and in the sleeves. Being that the neckline was the thing that attracted me to this sweater initially, I wanted to try to keep that in tact.

The finished Cheries that I have seen are wonderful - but they turned out more like mock turtlenecks, and I want that sleek boatneck look. So, I did not decrease the front and back as much as stated in the pattern, and I am also changing the measurements in the sleeves, following the numbers for another one of the patterns in the book, Vintage Knits . |
I hope the math works out and this sweater is what I am hoping for!
The yarn continues to be a joy, and a really nice substitute for the Rowan yarn. In fact, it may even be nicer… I daresay! (It is Dale of Norway Sisik, in case you forgot) :)
If you recall, Cherie is a three-in-one knitalong submission: for the Red Sweater knitalong, Tweeding Along, and National Knit a Sweater Month (NaKniSweMo). With the holiday this week, I am hoping for some nice knitting time… we'll see if I can wrap this sweater up by the end of the month!

Cherie looks great, Lolly! I’m sure it will work out, but I know what you mean–it’s always a little scary to alter the pattern or go your own way with a design. But fun too!
is it so bad to let you figure out all the math and shaping before i make it?!
i love the design
What yarn are you using? It’s gorgeous!
I am so sorry to hear about your horrid flight home, but I am glad you made it safely and had lots to occupy your time.
I bet Thanksgiving will be just the thing to get those two sleeves done before month’s end. It is looking stunning so far… good luck with the adjustments!
Sorry to hear about your horrible flight. Knitting is the only thing keeping me sane in situations like that. So, at least you have a sleeve whilst others have cropped up anger. After seeing your Cherie blossom, I went out and bought the book. Great patterns in there!
Cherie is just your color! It will look fantastic with your hair. XXOO
love that color! so rich. perfect for the holiday season coming up!
its looking great! That sisik does have some great fleck to it.
I made Cherie and had the same problems, the pattern is obviously completely wrong. I ended up just making the body and sleeves about 2 inches shorter at the top than called for but did not think to alter the decreases as you are doing. Didn’t fix the sleeve width either but it actually looks OK nonetheless. Anyhoo, sounds like you’ve got it all worked out. Can’t wait to see the finished sweater.
hi lauren, the cherie looks gorgeous! i love this book, but still haven’t got around getting a copy. but can’t wait to see yours finished!!
You’re making good progress, lady. Keep it up and use the holiday time to your advantage! It’s such a lovely color, I can’t wait to see it on you.
Good luck with the math. It seems like you’re insticts are right in not making the decreases come up as far. Be sure to check the measurements on the sleeve caps before you make them, they can be tricky.
Cherie is such a lovely sweater
I hope all of your mods get the final product that you’re looking for. I hope you post them afterwards, as I’m sure there are many o fus who would love to knit it, but have heard about the sizing issues and have stayed away as a result (*cough*me*cough*)
I am so glad to hear that you made it back safely. I am looking forward to your finished Cherie!
Making quick work of that one! Your logic in changing the neckline should work - makes sense to me…I like it more as a boatneck also…
Gorgeous color! I am loving all tweedy yarns lately. I just got some Skye Tweed from Stitches and hope to start a sweater soon.
Hope you had a great trip!

The sweater is looking great! I love that color.
That is coming along beautifully! Good luck on working the neckline. I agree—the boatneck shaping is key!
Lolly, i think that each time i see pictures of the yarn you are using for ‘Cherie’, i love it even more. The color is simply beautiful…very rich and warm. I’m smitten. lol!!

I love the color of your Cherie! It’s really going to be a gorgeous sweater!
Hi lolly.
I was wondering how many balls did you use for the cherie?
It’s coming out beautiful.
Good luck with cherie - it is a beautiful sweater!
I can’t wait to see your Cherie all done. I did a few mods as well since I too want the non-turtleneck version.
It’s looking great so far!
Your yarn is beautiful, and I’m amazed at your progress!
Whoo-hoo, you madea heck of a lot of progress on Cherie. Can’t wait to see it all done!
Nice - and you should let me know if you are worried about running out of the red Sisik. I am nearly done (just need to seam and block) with a Sisik sweater and I have three full balls left over and nothing planned for them.
