Lolly’s Library
…just got a little bigger…
With my recent birthday, my book collection was enhanced with some wonderful new volumes.
Sure, there was not a lack of inspirational knits to choose from already in my many other books, but isn't it amazing to have NEW things to look through as well? Among them:
- Knitgrrl 2, purchased for the adorable Noro side-to-side cardi on the cover, but upon further investigation, I found that it is filled with some great accessories and scarves that are bound to be cast on some time
- Knitting Loves Crochet- an interesting book about bringing the two crafts together in patterns. I love this eclectic styling and the mixing of the crafts - much like knitting and embroidery. Some patterns are very cute, and there are directions and tips to do more on your own.
…And my "research" knitting books…
The Art of Fair Isle Knitting: History, Technique, Color & Patterns
Latvian Mittens: Traditional Designs & Techniques
Traditional Scandinavian Knitting
Just in time for the winter Stranded Colorwork knitalong hosted by MJ, Andrea, and Mary-Heather, I received these three amazingly inspirational colorwork books. I can hardly wait to jump right in!

Speaking of the knitalong, I am planning to cast on for the Bea Ellis hat kit ("Kristen") at the beginning of December after the official knitalong start date. After I practice my technique, I am planning stranded mittens and socks. There are so many patterns tempting me these days, I am having a hard time keeping my focus! |
Also on my mind, even more colorwork… this time in the form of Icelandic Sweaters. Have you seen Adrian's lovely creations? Seeing her work spurred on the purchase of two LOPI books (24 & 25) with an assortment of yoked colorwork, and cabled designs.
Feast your eyes on these beauties:
There is no lack of inspiring knits on Lolly's bookshelf!
PS: Thank you so much for the sweet compliments on my Kolsva sweater - you made me blush!!

I am very envious of your Latvian Mittens book! That has been on my wishlist for ages. Good luck with Bea Ellis!
That looks like a great collection of books! I too am jealous of the Latvian Mittens book, though I’ve never seen it before. It looks awesome, though.
I LOVE the earth toned Lopi yoke sweater. They have a knit kit for that pattern at Ram Wools that I just added to my Christmas list! Now I just have to tackle the matter of learning to do Fair Isle…
I’m a little late to this party (what else is new) but I love your Kolsva! Hope you enjoy the fair isle history- I spent a whole day reading it at a shop while I was “working,” it was so inspiring! It makes me want to tackle Eunny’s sweater in IK.
I love your library additions. I’m feeling the pull of colorwork lately too so that Latvian Mittens book intriques me. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Ooh, what fun additions. You’re going to get into that colorwork soon, you’ve been thinking about it for a long time…
I like the mix of traditional and modern in those Lopi sweaters. I have an old Lopi book I should show you.
Did you get my email?
Don’t tempt me with all those lovely colour work things!! One day I will be “allowed” to do some ….. just have a few pending projects to get through!!
Ahh! More patterns! I seriously can’t keep up anymore….
Ooh, loves me some knitting books! The lopis are fantastic, I want one now!
What great addtions to your book collection!
Great books and lovely inspiration. I can’t wait to see your hat.
Wow!
You scored!!
focus with knitting?
almost impossible!!
hehe
oh man, so many books, so little time…gah!
I so want to learn Fair Isle, I find it a bit intimidating. And of course I used to own The Art of Fair Isle Knitting book and can’t find it anywhere! Figures.
Great minds thing alike! I’m so into colorwork, although I haven’t started anything yet. I just bought the art of Fair Isle. I passed on Lativian Mittens (I think). I bought a gorgeous colorwork vintage pattern book, and also Knitting In Estonia. Wonderful choices you made. I hope you do a review. I’m off to check the Knitalong you mentioned.

Noro in a sideways pattern - could that mean no horizontal stripes? Fabulous! (Although I have to say, you’re rockin’ the stripey Noro sweaters pretty well already, chica!)
As I look at your work I’m thinking….she doesn’t need to read knitting books….she needs to write one!
I just bought the same Lopi book! I think I am going to make that men’s yoke sweater (bottom right in your photo set) for my sweetie. But… after the Christmas knitting is done.
I just bought Lopi 25, too … it’s all I can do not to cast on immediately. Must.Finish.Other.Projects.First.
Yay for the KAL- I joined, too! AND, I’ll be doing my first colorwork, also a Bea Ellis hat! Woo-hoo- can’t wait!
i could use one of those lopi sweaters on a day like today. this old navy sweater isn’t cutting it! i am excited to see your colorwork and get your feedback on the process. i have all the stuff i need to knit adrian’s “we call them pirates” hat. all the stuff but the courage to begin
and dahling, you look gorgeous in your noro sweater!
It is so fun to look at other people’s libraries, especially when it’s a knitting library! Thank you for sharing your new books with us. It must be so hard to choose just one pattern to start on, from all of those designs!
NICE new books!! Congratulations, and happy birthday! (I always get so sentimental over new books…)
You have some great additions to your library! I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted that Latvian Mitten book….
The KAL seems great. I’ve been really wanting to do some colorwork… maybe I’ll join.
The noro sweater is beautiful btw!
It looks like you’ve got a lot of great inspiration there!
Oh! Those last three books are SO on my wishlist. I hope Santa’s little helper over here is paying attention. LOL!!
How fun!! Can’t wait to see your future creations!

Oh, I’ve been wanting that Latvian mittens book! It just has such great patterns!
I just got that Latvian Mitten book for myself a few weeks ago. I’ve been so inspired by it, I just keep knitting colorwork hats. Thanks for telling us about the Stranded Colorwork KAL. I’ll definitely be joining that one!
Blush?? Pleeease, you know you look HOT!
Nice collection. I am starting to feel guilty about buying knitting books.
Love that first colorful sweater.
I think I need to join the stranded KAL too. After looking back at my knitting this year, I think stranding is the next challenge for me to take on. You have some awesome projects in mind, but like you, I think I’m going to start with a hat.
yay! I love those lopi patterns. not so hot on the yarn itself, but I LOVE the fairisles! so pretty!
Oooh I’ve never seen that scandinavian knitting book before, that looks really interesting. I love “research” books like that, they help you build your own designs.
Be warned, that Latvian mitten book is addictive… the patterns are so tempting, you’ll want to cast on about a dozen of them at the same time.
Oooh, I covet your library additions! I’ve been eyeing the Fair Isle and Scandinavian books in particular- you’ll have to tell us what you think of them!
That is an awesome book stash enhancement! So many good books! I hope this means Latvian mittens are in your near future.
[…] You may recall… I got two Lopi books for my birthday last month (and I marked several patterns that I liked) so perhaps this whole interlude was fated from the beginning?? […]
