Interesting how so many of the yarn shops have a big sale day on SuperBowl Sunday… This weekend, there were sales at many of the shops in my area – but Jenna and I took a longer trek to the fabled SuperBowl sale at Springwater Fiber Workshop in Alexandria, VA.
The sale at Springwater is restricted to certain yarns – but if you are willing to dig, there are some great deals. The sale starts just as the sun is peeking over the horizon, and by 7:00am, I heard it was an all out battle! It starts at a 60% off discount, and for each consecutive hour, the discount goes down 10%. So, since we got there late – and the yarns were highly picked over – we managed a 40% discount.
We met up with Laura, and we started digging in the remaining bins. I don’t know if it was my lucky day or not, but I did find some great things – yarns and books!
(You gotta click on it to see the details!)
I was thrilled to find so many nice yarns at such a late time. The only yarn that was not for sale is the lovely Trekking XXL to the right – I paid full price for that, but I have no regrets! This is the first time I have seen #147, and I fell in love with it. (It doesn’t take much to talk me into Trekking, have you noticed?)
While the yarn was great, I have to say, the company was even better. After some purchases, Laura, Jenna, and I went to get some brunch and knit the morning away. It was fabulous!
Laura is moving to Chicago this spring, so I was happy to be able to catch her before she left! Thanks for the fun time, ladies!
The last few days have been pretty busy – the new job is keeping me quite busy, but I am enjoying it. I have been working steadily on many of my knits: the Street Smart Hoodie, the Glee Tee, and my Kristen hat. I plan to start an embroidery project also in the next few weeks.
How are your Project Spectrum crafts coming along?

I already had to rip one of my projects out and redo it! Hooray! At least I realized it was headed for hugeness before I finished the back.
Well done, Lolly!
Frogged, thanks for asking. *L*
Love the yarn you got! Can’t wait to see your creations!
Oooh, I made a pair of Jaywalker socks out of that exact Trekking XXL! They turned out really nice!
Working on the blue lace edging, though pink projects have jumped ahead at the moment, LOL. You found some wonderful things at the sale!
What a great time you girls had! My eyes went directly to the Trekking. My gosh that is a beauty of a colorway. That’s a great photo of all of you!
You got some great stuff. I love that Trekking.
I hope we can get together some other time.
My Clapotis scarf is half-blocking!
Yeah, I’m really pleased with the Vittadini book I picked up that morning. I think I should have spent more time on the books. Oh well!
Well, a discount is a discount.
Nice haul- yay!
What a stash enhancing day you had! How fun to meet up with some other knit bloggers too – sounds like the ideal day out.
I have nearly finished my 1st PS2 project – a hat in shades of blue.
I am eager to get some dye and dye my own sock yarn. Sadly I have been to 2 stores and haven’t been able to find the right dye yet so it might have to wait til I can head into the city.
I have got to go check out the Flickr group and see what everyone else has been up to.
Whoa, your blog is all different-looking – you’re tripping me out, man! We did have such a lovely time, I’m glad we were able to make it happen. I was thinking that the sock weight yarn could be used for mittens if you care to go that route.
I have one project that’s kind stalled and one that’s going well. I also need to get my camera into the action.
I’ve just started my Project Spectrum knit….on top of all of my other WIPs and UFOs.
I see you have changed the look of your blog to correspond to P.S.
sounds like fun!!
BTW, the photo of Quincy is AMAZING!!!
Well photographed!
Jenna and Elemmaciltur: My blog is being wonky! I did not reset my template, but it changed by itself! The funny thing about it, it changed to PS colors! It is back to normal now
Great yarn!
I noticed when I picked back up a project last week after a couple months of neglect that it just happens to be in all the PS colors – blue, gray and white! How’s that for coincidence?
I am glad that you had a nice time at Springwater. What sweater are you wearing in the picture? Did you knit it? It is really beautiful!
PS sock is coming along, but at 10 spi, it’s coming along SLOWLY. Pictures if my camer ever gets here (but I’m having a contest on my blog; sock yarn to whoever guesses when it arrives).
aren’t those superbowl yarn sales great? my LYS had 30% off everything yarn-wise. and the previous week, i picked up that same zara book that is in your photo with the yarn! also on sale!
Those are some great yarns in that haul. I like the picture of the three happy friends.
I want a superbowl sale. *sniffle* lol My shop isn’t even open on Sunday.
My projects are moving along swimmingly!! I’ve got one mitt finished, I’m 4 inches into the body of Wicked, and turned the heel on one of my socks.
And I thought multi-tasking was going to be hard. lol
I noticed a Superbowl Sunday sale at the local Hancock Fabrics store, too. Guess they think women are out shopping then (not that I cared to watch the game). Was *way* too cold around here to spend any unnecessary time out of doors this weekend.
The trekking yarn caught my eye–looks lovely–what colorway is that? Maybe some socks on the horizon?
Wow, look at all that yarn…I’m not allowed to buy any more until I get my stash down a bit. I’m running out of storage space…ciao
