Getting Back on Track
Have you ever stumbled across an amazing website from a (somewhat) unrelated search term? Serendipitous!
As I have been working to get back on track with my diet and exercise regimen, I have been keeping an informal count of my caloric intake, and in doing so, I was reasearching the nutritional information for hearts of palm, a delicious addition to our salad bar at work. One of the links that popped up was for a site called PEERtrainer – and it linked directly to their calorie wiki. This part of the site alone was extremely helpful, and as I went exploring, I also found that you can use their electronic food and workout diary for FREE, as well as participate in motivational community groups, find tips, read success stories, etc. If you are a person who has motivation problems and/or needs accountability in fitness and nutrition, I completely recommend this site.
I linked to my log above so you can see what I have been eating and doing in my workouts… I hope to keep it up. Knowing that I will type it in later makes me rethink getting that second spoonful!
{UPDATE} Poseymom created a team for knitter PEERtrainers! It is called “Losin’ Knit”. Join us!
I am trying to remain encouraged – I did so well last year, but I really slipped in the autumn of 2006, leading to a gain of 9 lbs. I don’t consider this to be unmanagable, and I am working to do something about it now, but I can’t help be little upset with myself for dropping off of my regimen… I feel this everyday as I am trying to figure out what to wear, and nothing quite fits. HOWEVER, my goal is set, and I still have quite a bit of work to do, but a thousand mile journey (or a big weight loss journey) starts with one step (or one pedal of the bike!)
As before, I will periodically update my Weigh Down page with more information, and links to helpful weight loss sites, and articles. Please check it out if you get the chance!
Many of you declared fitness goals as New Year’s Resolutions. Have you maintained your goals over the last month? Have you made any progress?

That looks like a cool site. I may check it out once I get in a place where I can start a routine.
I want to know about your cauliflower soup recipe – I love cauliflower!
i read about this on your knitting blog- congrats on losing all that weight- I’m impressed- great work! i’m checking this out too- peer trainer seems pretty cool- did you know you can do this on nike.com too- but i don’t think it has calorie counters…
good luck on your new goals! I’m excited for you!

That looks like a great site–what a great form of accountabliltiy
I lost 5 pounds in January and I’m hoping to do the same this month(although Super Bowl weekend derailed me a bit). It’s a constant uphill battle. Good luck to you!
This is a great tool – thanks for sharing!
Thanks for directing me to PeerTrainer, Lolly! I just signed up–it looks like a fantastic site!

Great resource! Sparkpeople has something similar. I love using that.
Hearts of palm on pizza — one of my faves!
And I’m rooting for you Lolly, as always.
That’s a great website. I’m going to try to use it for my weight lost plan.
Don’t feel bad about your slip. You’re human, and you will continue to make small mistakes. The best thing is to do what you’re doing which is get back on the bike and keep going.
Thanks Lolly for the link. Just joined up at PeerTrainer. Seems like it is just what I’ve been needing to get me thru this lull I’ve been experiencing in my weight loss journey. I’ve also posted about this on my blog.
thats too cool. I signed up as well, might be just what I needed!! =)
You can do it! I haven’t even tried that actual exercise yet. I’m still looking around for the right equipment. Someday I might even find it.
I love that you’re documenting your progress. There is much to admire in your honesty and realistic views. I wish you great success.
i have been trying to get back on track myself, and am glad to know i am not alone. i have a whole separate blog (southernfriedfat.blogspot.com) about this issue, and have been keeping food and activity logs for the past month or so–some’s been good, some not. but i am trying to just take it a day at a time and not get overwhelmed. i’ll def check out peer trainer, too. crazy aunt purl’s been talking about this a lot lately too–i find that she often says what i want to say better than i can, so i read her posts on this topic with great fervor.
I love that you document and share your fitness journey. I have several goals for this year, which I dutifully documented in my little black Franklin Covey Planner. I think I will post that on my blog!
you go girl!!!
Thanks for the link, lolly! will have to check it out as I am having serious motivation problems. just before I read thsi post, in fact, i was thinking I need to do something about it. I have been terrible with my resolution. One of my goals was to cut out sugar and I have failed miserably. Especially this week. Maybe it’s time to re-think my goals
.
I’m getting back on track too! During a trip to the doctor this week, I discovered that I had put on 9 pounds since losing a bunch of weight about a year ago. My exercise and my eating habits have gone down the toilet recently but I’m trying to get everything organized again and hopefully will put the weight gain to a stop.
I’m going to hop right over and check out that link. I have not stuck to my goals. Perhaps I will find inspiration from you. Thanks for the link, and the nudge to get motivated!
You can do it Lolly! I’m so impressed by your resolve and positivity! And I love the reference to the Tao Te Ching.
Thanks for mentioning this website and (in one of your older posts) the cute pink heart rate monitor. The integrated calorie counter was something I missed with my old (black) heart rate monitor and it was an good excuse to buy myself this one – a pink one.
When you are looking for motivation I like the website of Janice Taylor (Our Lady of Weight Loss). She does have a free newsletter which is called KITT (Kick in the Tush). It helped me a lot to get back on track. Her website and newsletter is not about recommanding a certain diet. She is more into making weight loss an art project, make it fun…that was something that made me laugh and finally got me back on track.
::delurking:: Thanks so much for the link! i have already joined up.A friend has even joined up and that is all thanks to you, Lolly!!
Ok, I’m in too!
It would be fun to have a knitters team! I’ve created Losin’ knit Please join!!!!!
Since only 4 people can be in a group, I’ve created Losin’ Knit 2–great idea and would love for people to join me.
Where I am–I’m a mom of two, working on getting back into general health after having baby E six months ago. I’m on day 18 of a 21-day “exercise every day” challenge. Would love some partners. I’m a running/yoga/swimming/walking kind of person.
Dana: Poseymom created a TEAM, which can have unlimited number of people. In fact, there are already 15 people signed up under the Losin’ Knit team.
Thanks for sharing this great resource. I had just found calorie-counter which isn’t bad, but it’s not as good.
Health/weight wasn’t a NY resolution, but I had a healing crisis over the holidays that got me back on track as far as eating healthfully and I’m trying to keep up the momentum.
Best to you while you continue your journey – you’re an inspiration.
This is very cool–I know many people who will get a lot out of this, and I’ve forwarded it on to them. It’s interesting to start assessing one’s progress on resolutions in February, but it’s about time I did so–I didn’t have any fitness goals, but I’m doing badly on some of them (going to bed at a decent hour). I did get a doctor’s appointment and feel good about taking care of that, at the very least! It’s nice to be reminded–and to publicly state–that i need to reinvest my energy into keeping those resolutions.
I met a woman today who resolved to eat out MORE! she and I are going to be friends, now, eating our way around the city
Oh I’ll have to check this out…..I just joined Weight Watchers on line and my best friend who lives 3 hours away, has joined as well. We are buddying up and being supportive to each other, sharing recipes and ideas over the emails. Congrats on your weight loss. I have a goal of 30 lbs. to shed before next March – knee surgery. Love your knitting as well.
