Photo Session Saturday
…When it is too cold to take photos outside…
Lolly looks no further than the yarn stash!
Dying to know more details?
Click on the pictures above for more info on the yarns!
(I noticed that each shot has Noro as a focal point – didn’t do that on purpose, but I guess that it always catches my eye, even subconsciously. I blame Kathy
)
I didn’t get much time to play with the camera this week, as it was my first week of full-time work (busy and very little daylight) so these indoor shots gave me a chance to play with some of the settings, and the macro lens. There is still a lot to learn, but I have been reading my manuals, and also checking up on Canon’s PhotoWorkshop Digital Learning Center. There is so much to process and prepare, but I can see that with more practice, my shots will get better and better. Kris has spent more time with the camera than I have, and his photographs are getting better and better. You can see them here, if you are interested.
We decided to buy the camera for many reasons: Both Kris and I have hobbies that work rather well with photography. I have seen some lovely photographs on various blogs, and I want to learn more about it. We also bought the camera in anticipation of a big trip this summer – we just made our reservations and got our plane tickets! – TWO weeks in PERU. We are going to the Amazon AND the Andes. I can hardly wait! I want to practice my photographic skills before we go so that I can capture this amazing trip in the best possible way… more details on the trip later!
Many of you have emailed and asked about my camera’s specs:
- Canon Digital Rebel XTi
- EF 50mm F1.8II standard lens
- EF 100mm F2.8 Macro USM lens
- SpeedLite 580EX Flash
There are so many other speculations I could name, but I have no idea what they mean, so I will spare you! The newest addition (Kris has gotten quite obsessive about it!) is a telephoto lens. I haven’t even touched it yet, so I can’t share any of the pics or specs yet. What I do know: it looks like the lenses that the paparazzi have on their cameras…
Have a good weekend!
PS– RSS aggregators in general seem to have something against me – or at least my last three posts! It seems that the feed with the most reliability is the Feedburner option: http://lollygirl.com/blog/feed/. So, resubscribe!

What fun pictures! I still haven’t knit with Noro yet.
With the winter chill how fun to have booked your Peru trip – I’m sure you will have an incredible experience!
Great pix! I can’t even get them that nice OUTside!
FYI Newsgator is not fond of you these days either – I just caught back up to you this AM – wondered where you’d been.
You will love Peru! My folks went a few years ago and mom loved seeing all the alpaca, both live and in fiber form! Lots of knits to buy at very low prices, probably yarn too. ooooo, can’t you just feel it? The people were wonderful too. Her bit of advice is to make sure you are prepared for the high altitude. Machu Pichu is at 14,000, I think, so at my mom’s age, she needed to take some meds, which worked really great. Would hate for you to miss out on anything because of altitude sickness!
It is my goal to get there sometime before I leave this earthly plane, and to come home with LOTS of fiber!
ahhhh! these photos warm my heart!!
my Safari (Mac) RSS feed was picking up as usual.
Amazon and the Andes – sounds lovely!
Lovely pics. It’s great that you’re trying to get the most out of your camera. There’s always so much to learn!
OMG! How FUN! What a great reason to get a camera
.
I think the Noro just muscled its way into the center of each shot.
What great color combinations!! What fun to just look at it and create combinations of color and texture!! And then comes the endless question…what will I knit with that?! Happy dreaming!
Oh man, I am so jealous! I want to go to Peru soo bad. Pet a vicuna for me, kay?
I use the Digital Rebels with my journalism/yearbook students. They are reasonably easy to learn and I’m really happy with the photo quality! (Now if only I learned more about photography…she admitted sheepishly.)
Wow, this camera takes some awesome photos! You have an amazing fish tank too!
Those pics of your stash make me feel really hungry…for yarn!!!
My Bloglines picked up all your feeds this morning.
Loved a little Sunday morning yarn-love. Mmmmmm.
Wow that sounds like an awesome vacation! I still have a lot to learn with my camera. I would love to take a digital photography one of these days. Now, to just fine the time…
Great camera! My sister just bought the same one in anticipation of her honeymoon in Greece this summer. You’re going to have some gorgeous pictures to post. Enjoy Peru!
Your yarn looks so gorgeous and soft.
Playing with all the settings on a camera is part of the fun. The photo album on my computer has quadrupled in size since I got mine.
Kris’s pictures are gorgeous! So are the fish tanks.
Peru! How exciting! I can only imagine all the research going on over at la casa de Lolly. Preparing for a trip can be just as exciting as the trip itself.
Hope your new full-time job experience is a great one.
oh wow! Peru! how exciting!!
Your photos just make me want to dive into your yarns, they make them look so inviting. It’s great for both of you that your other hobbies also allow you to explore photography, which is such a fun art in and of itself.
I’m so happy that you guys are going to Peru and that you’ll get to see Machu Picchu. I’m sure that it will really be an eye-opening trip for you in many regards. Can I come in your suitcase? Oh, probably not because you’ll want to leave it empty to pack alpaca yarns
Necesitas practicar tu espanol!
I haven’t had any troubles with your feed on Newsgator….because it RULES.
Peru sounds like a ton of fun! Maybe you’ll be able to add to the yarn stash, too…or smuggle back an alpaca!
Oh my god… Peru!! You are so lucky. Friends of mine went travelling there years ago and I just remember seeing the most amazing photos they brought back. And, just think of all that yarn!!!
Yeah, Bloglines was all screwed up for you, and I just saw about 3 new posts from you that I hadn’t known about!
PERU!!! Sooo awesome. I’m excited for your trip, just because I know I’ll get to see all the photos. Then I can pretend that I went, and pass off your photos as my own . . . (kidding!)
Long time lurker, here to comment.
A co-worker of mine just returned from Peru, and she told me that in the markets, the women would come up to you with yarn and say “Baby alpaca, baby alpaca”. She said that was some of the only English they knew. So you better set aside a little money for some baby alpaca purchasing!
I think Noro is a lovely focal point to any picture!
wowie. those pics are gorgeous…now you’ll have to take pics of Pixie for me!
photog that you are!
glad to see bloglines pulled its head outta you know where…I’m too reliant on it to tell me when to come and visit!
hope to see you soon m’dear!
Oh, no! Full-time work started this week? I definitely enjoyed my pre-full-time work status immensely more, but the extra $$ makes it much easier to purchase loads of crafting supplies without the guilt or much tweaking of the budget.
Your stash pictures make me yearn for more yarn…I had a sad sad stash compared to most….Oh well..
hi lolly! love your photos… i am so keen on a new camera for traveling this summer too! and peru sounds like it will be amazing. we have been talking about peru for years and one day we will be there
can’t wait to see it through your photos.
Peru! How amazingly exciting! I’m so pleased you’ll be taking lots of pictures and telling us all about it!
I got a Gary Fong Lightsphere to go on top of my Speedlite and I *looooooove* it! It really helps diffuse the flash. I got the “cloud” one because I planned to use it to take more portrait type shots. Two thumbs up! E-mail me if you want more details, and I’ll work on getting the test shots online from it!
Lucky girl! You’re going to have a blast with that camera. I have the rebel xt and have enjoyed it a lot. I’m jealous of your telephoto though
Thanks for organizing the Project Spectrum group!
Thanks for the info on your camera, it is so impressive. I am DYING to get one but my husband will prove to be a formidable obstacle, what with his frugality illness…How did you choose Peru? I’m curious…
