My passion for crafting is well-documented in this space. You have probably read about it a number of times on this blog.
I can also say that I have a nearly insatiable wanderlust. I absolutely love to travel. Near far, wherever you are. Sure, I just had a nice weekend excursion to see the sisters in North Carolina, but I can’t help but think about the next time I can GO… that will be a few weeks away – going to New York in April! So, in the meantime, I am taking some armchair travels – through your Project Spectrum photography!
Do you recognize this midwestern monument?
Ahhhh… now wasn’t that nice?
Plenty more where that came from…
Do you have a vacation planned anytime soon? Kris and I are gearing up for our BIG trip to Peru this summer, and we have some little sidetrips planned as well – NYC, the MD/DE beaches, and maybe another NC excursion later in the spring. I’d love to hear where you are planning to go!

Jenna and I have a date tomorrow – trying to get as much time as I can before she heads off to the OTHER Washington (state). I am gonna miss her like crazy.
-
Tara asked me a few weeks ago for an interview, and I was so excited! She posed some great questions about how my craft relates to my profession – libraries and archives – and also some things about my future plans. The interview is posted at Create A Connection blog.

Have you seen Interweave’s newest venture, Knitting Daily?

All Things Heather is taking part in a great fundraiser – check it out!
Have a good weekend, everyone!

Beautiful blue blue skies, and grey old Toronto… Love the mountains at the end, ahhhhhh.
Got to love that Gateway Arch in my town.
Awesome Project Spectrum photos!
Exciting travel plans you got there… The first thing I thought of when I read “Peru” was, of course, ooo yarn! Have fun in NYC too – there’s definitely a lot to do and see here. If you need restaurant recommendations, I’ll be happy to divulge! =)
Thanks for the inclusion of my Fire Island Lighthouse shot! It was exciting to see it on your blog! I too love to travel and am plotting my next few excursions!
Ah, the Gateway Arch — the only urban National Park in the system, and one of the world’s most famous structures in the shape of a catenary curve.
Thanks for sharing my Neuschwanstein picture!
Our “big” trip is to California in June – start south in “The OC”, work our way to Napa/Sonoma, end in SF. We have friends to stay with at the beginning and end of the trip. Other trips will include a quick weekend visit to my ILs on the coast of MS (near Biloxi) (April), my parents in NY (summer), and I hope to snag my sister in laws beach house in Bethany Beach, DE for a week in late summer.
I still wish I could plan more trips – visit a friend in Toronto, have a girls trip to the beach . . . I need more resources!
Ah, those photos were like a breath of fresh air. I especially loved seeing the beach, there’s nothing more invigorating than being near (or seeing a pretty picture of) water.
I’m also very much looking forward to our date. Can you believe I’m leaving in less than three weeks? I want to get as much Lolly time in there as I can, too because I’m going to be so sad to have you so far away
Mr S and I head to Chicago for a little kidless romance/NCAA basketball weekend next week!
Oh that was nice. Thanks, just what I needed, a pick me up on this icky Friday.
What a fun surprise to see my photo of that beautiful gateway arch on your site! Thanks for posting it. The other travel photos are stunning.
My next trip is to come to the DC area to visit my sister in April before she moves to Columbus. I’m hoping to get down to NYC and to Crane’s beach in Massachusetts sometime this summer. Happy travels!
Haven’t left a message in a while so I thought I would drop a line or two now
Love the pictures and I too love to travel. Only, with the kids and all it makes it nearly impossible to do so. However, my husband and I are going to Las Vegas next week for the weekend so hopefully we will get some quality time together.
Have a great weekend dear!

I got trapped in that midwestern monument a few years ago due to an elevator problem. That wasn’t so bad, but the stampede once they fixed the elevators was frightening. I had no interest in photographing it or having any remembrance of it once I got back to the ground, although at this point I can say that I wish I had taken a photo as cool as the one you’ve got posted.
What a great photo of the arch! Lots of inspiring photos, thanks for that!
We’re travelling to Kentucky in a bit (home to visit the fam) and then England this summer for a few weeks. Hopefully manage to make it to Portland or Vancouver this summer too! Can’t wait
Peru sounds like so much fun! I’ll be doing most of my travelling vicariously though, since (yikes!) I’ll be a new mom this summer! I’m sure that will be a trip in its own special way, though…
I have to disagree with the poster who said the Arch was the only urban National Park… I love Rock Creek park in DC!
Your Peru adventure sounds fantastic. I am having total wanderlust right now. We’re deciding between Maine and Ireland for a May trip, and work will take me to San Jose in June. Then a family vaca in July to Colorado — I can’t wait! I’m ready for some adventures already!! (and have been looking around, trying to find any work conferences in Europe I should go to, teehee.)
I’m planning on going to Atlanta for the second time – since I’ll be there longer I am going to check out some yarn shops in the area! I also plan on visiting some friends in LA. Since I’m local to the SF Bay Area, I also have some day trips in mind for later in the year.
My Somedays are full of “Away”. If only I was born rich. I think that I would rarely see the place of my birth. My feet would walk the paths of ancients and my eyes would see the wonders of the smallest places.
ack – you guys are going to peru this summer?!?! This is the next trip Steve and I plan to take! Not sure when, though. I can’t wait to hear about your experiences there.
Awesome pictures! I love to travel! I am planing a trip to Germany in August, hopefully I will be able to stay until December. I am studying German and I hope to get a job cooking in Germany so I can learn more about German cuisine!
Faith from the knitting cook podcast (http://theknittingcook.libsyn.com/)is currently living in Germany and she said that you can buy sock yarn in gas stations! I’m sure I’m going to LOVE it there!
What a surprise to see my photo on your virtual world tour!
I too suffer from great wanderlust, so I try to take as many photos as possible while traveling.
Have a great time in Peru! That’s one trip i definately want to make in the next few years.
For this year I’ve got plans for the North Coast (in April) New Zealand (in July) the South Coast (in September) and the U.S. for christmas/new years, most probabaly with a jaunt in Canada thrown in.
Must get saving!
Those are some pretty amazing photographs. I especially love the one with the lighthouse.
I am going to try to get to NY for the Yarn Harlot and will be going to Maryland Sheep and Wool but that is all we have planned so far. (just having gotten back from Mexico.) I am so jealous of Peru, I really want to see Machu Picchu and the alpacas!
Gorgeous photos!
Unfortunately no travel plans for me anytime soon. I have blown all of my wanderlust in the last few months by traveling home, to New Zealand (twice!) and also to a few places in the North of Western Australia. Looks like it’s time to return to the real world.. (sigh)
The Arch spells home sweet home for me – I love it!
I really enjoyed your interview, and look forward to seeing what you will do next. Thank you for the inspiration you provide to all of us. Have a good weekend!
I recognize Toronto city hall, I walk past it all the time.
Beautiful photos…I love the Flickr pool. I’m actually hoping to make it to NC (Outer Banks) this summer. It is my family’s yearly vacation, but, living in Oregon, I missed it for the first time last year.
New York in April will be glorious, lucky you. No holidays for us this year but I plan on spending the entire summer at our cabin in the woods in northern Ontario (with black flies and mosquitoes), what the heck…ciao
I’m going to Spain in one week! I can’t wait to explore Europe, and your pictures are so inspiring. I love traveling
Boy-o-boy those Project Spectrum participants are cranking out some amazing photos!!
What a surprise to stop in for a read and see my “nuns” photo. You thoughts on travel make me think of that trip to Italy. *sigh*
With a new little one around, I don’t think we will head off on a trip like that again very soon, but we are thinking of Yellowstone this summer – a favorite destination of mine.
Thanks for sharing the photos Lolly, gorgeous shots one and all. I am headed out to California for a week this afternoon, not really vacation though. Going to Hawaii this summer. I am looking forward to living vicariously through your Peru pictures!
Ahh, beautiful pictures, I can’t wait to visit America one day.
ahhh my home town…I see that CN tower there!
Love the pictures! Is there a specific spot to post/send pics of our Project Spectrum projects? (That sounds so redundant…) If you want to “do” Europe, we’re always up for company here in the Black Forest of Germany. It’s beautiful here – and oh, the food!
Hi. First time I’ve been over here. Found your site intriguing as I take my knitting on the road with me, all ’round the world, all the time.
Great photos! I’ve just returned from a trip north of me, to Asilomar (on the Monterey Peninsula) and then on to Santa Clara for Stitches West. My “really big” trip this year? France, in May, on a quilters’ tour. The “big” trip is a quilting (what else?) cruise in Sept/Oct, through New England and Canada. Teeny little escape next weekend, to Beautiful Downtown Burbank (well, actually by the airport) for the Glendale Quilt Show. Lots of travel this year for this quilting knitter (knitting quilter?), making up for years and years spent going hardly anywhere!
Great interview Lolly – I enjoyed reading your answers.
thanks for this armchair travel! i have got crazy springtime wanderlust right now… can’t wait to go go go! this summer i have got 2 trips planned that i am so excited about… 3 weeks in china + korea (for my job, with 18 K-12 teachers), and then 2 1/2 weeks in norway, brussels, + holland! i can’t wait.
Peru sounds so amazing… it is definitley on my list of places to go. I will be going to China in April, also… for four weeks, including 6 days in Tibet! I am so excited about it!
Hi Lolly,
I went up that monument. It was a bit creepy. I have picture proof and a funny story to tell, too. Since Rolf and I lived near St. Louis for more than a year, we just had to go.
Did you go up, too?
I would love to see you when you are in NYC. That arch pic made me long for some good toasted ravioli.
we are headed to the beach (outer banks) this summer – I can’t wait!! I love to travel too – even if it’s just a day trip to Boston!
My husband was terrified to head up the arch a few yrs ago when we went up – but once in there he was fine! We’re heading to Ireland in May for a week – woohoo…guiness here we come
I’m seriously behind on my blog reads but do let me know when you are going to be in NYC. I’d love to meet up with you again if we can!
And your knitting is looking fab too.
Wow, I feel so honored to be in the group of photos! Thanks!
[...] goes on, but these are so many of my top travel destinations (of course, you already know about my insatiable wanderlust, so I pretty much want to go everywhere in all directions…) I am heading north (and west) [...]
