Lap of Luxury

Little Luxuries

A comprehensive yarn inventory is a new addition to my spring cleaning ritual. In the process of recording yardages, weights, and shades, I noticed the three single luxurious skeins together.

Little Luxuries

These three hanks are the most decadent fibers in my stash: a beautiful pink silk, a teal cashmere silk blend, and a pure carnation cashmere. Small treasures for exquisite knits. Two of these hanks were gifts from friends, and one was an impulse purchase at the festival in 2005.

Little Luxuries

One of these little hanks will become the Purl Bee cowl.

I can’t wait to have this beautiful fiber run through my fingers!

Do you have a little bit of luxury in your stash that
you can’t wait to work with?

I do. I just got some Fleece Artist in the most glorious colors the other night when the Yarn Harlot was in town. Seemed appropriate to splurge on a Knitting Holiday and all… Love your little skeins of luxury!

Can’t wait to see which one you pick! ;)

Having just made that cowl with a silk/cashmere blend I’d definitely recommend that you go with the pure cashmere for yours–or else cast on significantly fewer stitches than the pattern calls for!

Definitely think of this gorgeous, rich royal blue silk from Tess’ Cascade Silk.

mmm.. wish I could feel those yarns you have pictured!

Wow those are some great looking treasures in you stash. You lucky girl!

  6. Suzon 09 Apr 2007 at 5:21 am

    Pretty colors!

The most luxurious fiber i have is the “Silky Wool” on needles for Deb’s vest. I love working with it.

that pink cashmere would be beautiful for that cowl! Sadly, my most luxurious fiber is Merino…. :)

  8. eyeleenon 09 Apr 2007 at 8:42 am

Beautiful colors, They all look perfect for that cowl!

My most luxurious fiber is some hand dyed cashmere, that I just pet. I have no clue what I’ll knit with it but it’s so soft and pretty I just like to look at it.

What a lovely find in your stash! Currently my most luxurious fiber is one skein of the Alchemy silk in a rich purple - a gift from a swap. I’m not sure what I’ll make with it just yet - but it is lovely to look at now. :)

  10. Aviceon 09 Apr 2007 at 9:13 am

Absolutely yummy. I am longing for some Alchemy, but my inventory is in dire need of updating, particularly after some impulse (and impulsive) acquisitions.

I do! I have some qiviut that I purchased at Stitches East. I have one little ball that I am going to make a small scarfette. :)

  12. Hollyon 09 Apr 2007 at 10:05 am

Hmmm-that would be my Merino/kid mohair/angora blend that’s waiting to be spun up. Plenty for a shawl. Unfortunately, it’s pretty far down on the list…OK, stop talking about luxury fibers! Makes me want to do some list shuffling…

Takes my breath away - just gorgeous!

  14. jennieon 09 Apr 2007 at 11:04 am

ooooh, lovely. i’ve got some pink silk i’ve been hemming and hawing on what to do with. it’s my “rainy day” yarn. when I feel sad or uninspired with the knitting, i pull it out and pet it. i’m almost afraid to use it!!

  15. Traceyon 09 Apr 2007 at 1:31 pm

    Oooh, silky!

  16. Melissaon 09 Apr 2007 at 2:28 pm

I have two skeins of that pink silk myself! Problem is, I can’t make it behave nicely in a pattern. I tried a scarf from the Knitter’s Book of Shawls and Scarves, and it just didn’t work. I think it was too lacy, and that yarn really has no stretch, so the lace looked crummy. I still love the color shading and the feel of the yarn.

Lovely yarn! I’m actually working with a merino/silk blend that I spun on my wheel. It’s lovely to work with! I guess that counts as luxury.

The teal coloured yarn is just beautiful - one of my favourite colours!! Sheer luxiry in a ball!

  19. Ginnieon 09 Apr 2007 at 4:20 pm

Beautiful yarn! It’s fun to just admire such lovely yarn, let alone knit with it. I have a skein of dark pink silk that I’m planning to use for a scarf. Hopefully, the pattern lives up to the yarn:)

  20. kaeton 09 Apr 2007 at 4:57 pm

those are the most amazing yarns! the colors are exquisite! i can’t wait to see how they knit up!

  21. Jenna Pink Monkeyon 09 Apr 2007 at 6:40 pm

Ooh, any of those skeins would be divine for the cowl! The cashmere on your neck would just be pure bliss. Then we can be cowl twins, yay!

My most luxurious yarns would probably be the silk/mohair/wool blends my dad recently got me as a birthday present from artfibers. Man oh man are they ever divine! I’ve already got a project in mind for one…

  22. Dorothy Bon 09 Apr 2007 at 6:47 pm

Mine is Fleece Artist sock yarn. It’s so beautiful that I can’t envision wearing it on my feet, but so far it has resisted being anything else.

  23. Hannahon 09 Apr 2007 at 7:58 pm

I love the colors in your stash…We obviously have similar tastes ;-) And these skeins are gorgeous. I can actually feel them just by looking at your photo.

The most luxurious yarn in my stash is the 400 yards of corriedale that I dyed and spun myself (there are some photos on my blog)…the colors, the texture, the twist…it’s all special to me, especially since there’s none like it anywhere else in the world. I think it’s going to become a modified Lady Eleanor.

On a totally different topic, have you checked out the Ripple Along? It’s been tempting me. The colors in your stash would make a gorgeous throw! If only one could afford to make an all-cashmere ripple throw…

  24. Meredithon 09 Apr 2007 at 8:06 pm

Ooh, they all look gorgeous and I love the colors. I’ve just placed an order for some hand-dyed silk yarn from a shop on etsy–I can’t wait to get it!

  25. Danielleon 09 Apr 2007 at 11:28 pm

Yummy yummy yummy! All three seem devine.

    Happy knitting.

oh wow, i really like that cowl. what a perfect project for a skein of yummy yarn like cashmere. thanks for the inspiration.

  27. jennekeon 10 Apr 2007 at 3:47 pm

Luxury… I have some Anne waiting for me. And some Fleece artist and some Helen’s Laces. Only problem is that they are so pretty that I don’t know how to use’m up yet. :)

  28. Noraon 12 Apr 2007 at 1:34 am

I can almost feel your pale pink cashmere through the screen.
I’ve got some pink silk and undyed cashmere that I’m hanging onto for dear life!!

  29. ericaon 13 Apr 2007 at 4:44 pm

All of those yarns are scrumptious!
I have some black cashmere that I bought last year at MSW that feels like pure heaven. With about 700 yards, it will definitely be a lovely shawl. I did an inventory last year and have it all in an Excel spreadsheet that I refer to for projects and update as I finish a project. It’s also great just to see how many skeins of a particular yarn I have to see if I have enough for small projects.

i was just looking at that cashmere cowl as the perfect project for the most amazing yarn at my lys. it’s this classic elite cashmere that comes in colors as yummy as yarntini. i think it has like 8 plys. your cowl and the still-cold spring we’re having in the northeast are inspiring me to go for it!
