Come Undone

I have been quite busy with work this week: I attended an archival preservation workshop conference in DC (shout out to my fellow librarian/archivist readers!) and it has eaten up all of my time. Very little time to knit…

In fact, the knitting I did was quickly deemed unsuitable.

Trekking Shades Sock 2

This was my knitting progress on the Shades sock at the knit night with the NYC Spiders. I was rolling – going with the pattern. Looking good and closing in on the heel turn.
Then, on the way home from the City, I met an interesting stranger on the train. We chatted the whole way from New York to Baltimore.  She was a designer and an artist, and shared storied about her mother who has worked with fiber for years as a knitter, spinner, and weaver.

I found a way to completely mess up an easy lace pattern. Dropped stitches, misplaced yarn overs…

Shades Sock #2 is back to square one.

Frogging

At least Katy is making some great progress on the pattern!

But you met a cool person to talk to…

I cannot talk and knit lace. Can’t listen to music. Can’t watch TV. All other kinds of kniting yes. Lace no.

My knitting is on very slow burner right now. Wren has stalled again. Gotta get that one finished and OUT of the basket.

At first, I was all “aw, man! frogged sock! bummer!” But then I was all, “hey, is that a brownie in the background??” and forgot all about the sock.

    Yay for interesting strangers!

Yes, but the colorway is amazing! A little negative knitting is ok.

  4. Dee

Looks like very colorful spaghetti there at the end.

I can’t knit a pattern and talk either. Many a knitter night has ended back at home with me frogging back a sock. ;-/

  5. Kara

Aw nuts! But at least you know how it is going to turn out…

  6. Brenda

How too bad! At least it was through meeting a cool person to talk to and not avoiding someone nasty.

  7. Nora

Oh no! That’s what happens to me when I knit lace and talk! Even the telly is a distraction.

  8. Nora

Sorry, telly is what we call the TV in Australia.

  9. eyeleen

at least you kept your hands busy during a great conversation! I really love that colorway.

  10. Mom

Happens all the time to me, even when I’m not working on a lace pattern. If I am sleepy, I just need to put the knitting down! XXOO

aw shucks, that stinks. but i see my brownie in the background!

  12. Heather

Yes, knitting (from a pattern) and scintillating conversation just don’t mix!;)

  13. stacey

that so stinks!!!! I can never talk and knit except if it is plain stockinette. I have a hard time thinking and knitting correctly!

  14. Karen

I hate it when that happens!

  15. Katy

Oh, such a sad spaghetti of yarn! But it sounds like the convo was worth it?

  16. Tracey

Oh well, that’s one of the things I like best about this medium…if we mess up we can just frog it and start over again, unlike paint or wood or many other crafts.

  17. Mimi

Yummy looking noodles and the needles look like chop sticks…even better.
    Love you!

curiously the unreaveld sock looks a lot like the swiss chard!
    :-)

  19. Christine

bummer you had to start over on the sock but i love the color.

  20. Lisa

Oh No!! At least it was done while engaged in what sounds like a really interesting conversation!
