Socks for Momma

Published by lolly at 5:25 pm under Juta's Stockings, Socks

My mother’s birthday was last month. I didn’t finish her present until this weekend… but that didn’t seem to matter too much. She liked them all the same!

These socks were very photogenic. I took many many pictures of them throughout their time on the needles. Started for the Green Sock Knitalong (way back in January), I didn’t really start working on them until April. The yarn is one of my favorites, and after this weekend’s activities, I now have a little more of it in my stash. The yarn did pool a little bit around the ankles - but I have never had this problem with Tess yarn before. Once I turned the heel, it started to lightly stripe, which looked better to me.

My mom and I have about the same size of foot, so if I wasn’t such a generous soul, I would have easily kept these beauties for myself! The good thing is that momma knows how much time went into these, and she cares well for them.

My first finished knit in over a month - you were starting to think I just buy yarn and never use it, weren’t you? :)

Beautiful socks! I don’t think the pooling is really a problem in that yarn–the color changes are rather subtle so you can’t really tell.

So pretty! How does that toe fit? Do you like it better than the usual one?

Just lovely — your mom is very lucky! For what it’s worth, I can’t tell that there’s any major pooling at all from the pictures.

Happy birthday to your mom! The socks look great. I recently made Ellen’s stockings from ‘Folk knitting in Estonia’ for my mother in law in green and they look stunning on her feet.

A lot of my knitting time goes into buying/checking out new yarn and projects. Perfectly normal.

The socks are really pretty! I like the pattern on the top of the foot…normally a pattern would make them uncomfortable in shoes, but that pattern looks like it would still be smooth and flat. Great choice!

Of course, I have to wish another belated happy b-day to your mom, my b-day pal. I hope she will treasure these, they are a beautiful, personal gift. I think the shifting of the colors with the Tess are part of its beauty. Great work, but you’d better cast on some more!
