Humble Beginnings

Published by lolly at 12:21 pm under Project Spectrum 2.0, Stashbusting

…A lovely camisole begins with a simple cast on…

Cast on: Traveling Vines

The Traveling Vines Camisole, also known simply as #12 in the Spring/Summer 2004 issue of Vogue Knitting, is the next knit on my needles. The lace attracted me; it seemed easy enough for a beginner like me, and the neckline  is so pretty and drapey. I think in a simple black cotton/silk blend like Dalegarn Svale, it will be a classy, all-season piece.

The yarn has been in my stash for over three years. I had a pattern in mind when I first bought the yarn, but honestly, the pattern did not excite me any more. Back to the drawing board - or in this case - the back issues of knitting pattern magazines. I had hoped to stashbust this yarn for the black month of Project Spectrum. This camisole has been on my long list for awhile, and I think it will be a nice match with the yarn.

its a lovely top! is it hard to lace with black? it will be most elegant when done, but tricky.

I love being able to find patterns to go with yarns that have been languishing in the stash. Looks perfect.

I’ve knitted a top in Svale some years ago - beautiful yarn!

Hmm! The black camisole will look so chic…. can’t wait to see it.
I think PS is helping me with my stash busting too. Plus, it’s always nice to cross off one thing off your to knit list! Good Luck.

I was just about to ask you about that yarn and where you got it? I think they have it at the Yarn Cafe’ but not sure, I know I just saw some on sale but I cant remember where?

Well Im sure that should turn out lovely!
    Cheers!

Forgive the tangent, but on my walk to work there is a space about a city block long which, most days, appears to be the acrobatic practice ground for a group of swallows. There must be about twenty of them, just bombing up and down and back and forth across the street. I always flinch because I’m sure one is going to hit me some day (and they come close to everyone), but it’s been safe so far. It’s bizarre and wonderful.

That is going to be so pretty.

Very pretty indeed. Since you told us you wear black a lot, I think it will turn put very pretty and be used a lot.

This is going to be beautiful. I never saw that pattern, and I LOVE it!

What a pretty pattern! And I love Svale–it’s very soft and comfortable.

That’s probably my favorite issue of Vogue, ever…I knit the cover pattern, and intend to knit this one too at some point — it’s lovely, and I think it will look great in black!

Oooh, can’t wait to see how it turns out!

The lace camisole/tank looks lovely - the projects that you choose (and complete!) inspire me….

  24. Karinon 18 Jun 2007 at 4:28 am

It will look great. Did you know that Red Scarf Project is this year in September? That would make a great knit for the Red, Black and Metallic period now?

  25. staceyon 18 Jun 2007 at 9:22 am

that will be really pretty - that’s a really interesting lace pattern

  26. J Strizzyon 18 Jun 2007 at 9:56 am

That’s a great choice! The silk in your yarn should give the neckline a nice drape. Word of warning though: I knit that pattern a couple of years ago and love it, but the armholes as written are really large — they come down well below the cami I usually wear underneath. Just wanted to let you know so you can adjust if necessary!

  27. Specson 18 Jun 2007 at 11:45 am

Hehe. You know, I’m reading this on bloglines, and I momentarily forgot which blog I was reading (because I’m really flying through the blogging I missed during the move). But when I saw that pattern I thought “oh, that’s a Lolly pattern!” I don’t know why, exactly, but there you go — this pattern is just so you! :)

  28. novaon 18 Jun 2007 at 12:29 pm

Way to stash bust Lolly! I just saw a pattern and fell in love with it…and I must knit it…in black! I am totally feeling inspired by project spectrum!

  29. jennaon 18 Jun 2007 at 12:30 pm

Oooh…this is going to be lovely! I love that sexy, drapey neckline.

  30. Nonnahson 18 Jun 2007 at 1:03 pm

I love the neckline and the lace pattern is pretty, but not too complicated- I think it’s going to look great in black, too.

  31. Karaon 18 Jun 2007 at 1:28 pm

So dreamy. I love that pattern…especially the cowl neck. What a lovely new project. You just have impeccable taste, Lolly.

  32. Jessicaon 18 Jun 2007 at 1:50 pm

Nice choice! Black is always a good color for just about anything, as long as it doesn’t make you blind to knit it! ;)

  33. Marisolon 18 Jun 2007 at 6:37 pm

What a lovely pattern! I hear camisole’s and knit loungerie are all the rage:)

  34. Brendaon 18 Jun 2007 at 8:57 pm

What pretty lace! That will be lovely in black. It’s a good feeling to get some stash yarn knit up.

  35. eyeleenon 18 Jun 2007 at 11:33 pm

ooohhh! that’ll look lovely in black.

  36. Sueon 20 Jun 2007 at 2:09 am

I am sure that the lacey top will be lovely when it is finished, and is just perfect for Project Spectrum too.
