Freshwater / Saltwater

Published by lolly at 3:49 pm under Hiking / Walking, Photography, Travel, USA - North Carolina

Kris and I took the scenic route to the beach.  The weather was pristine, and there were plenty of worthy diversions:  the roadside farmers’ markets and the small lakes, in particular.   I just love the spontaneity of vacations:  we passed a sign for a state park on the highway, we looked at each other, and then we turned.  We had our bikes, and we had time.  Rarely do we have the opportunity to do something that pops up just like that… with no planning or time constraints.  Liberty!

The state park offered about 12 miles of trails, and we had a great time riding them and exploring the small cypress groves around the lake.  The weather was mild and beautiful; so perfect for these outdoor activities.

We were lucky to enjoy the same mild weather at the beach.  The hottest and most humid day was the day that we left.  Various family members joined us on Friday evening at the beach house, and we planned our activities.

Niece K and I went to the bayside docks and watched the guys fish and crab.

The next day, we took K and her sister M to the beach to fly their new kites.

…they got a little tired of the kites and decided to play in the sand…

Our final morning at the beach, Kris and I took K on a walk through the sand.

Glad you had a great vacation! Our last trip had some spontaneous elements to it too - definitely not the norm for us - but those times were some of my favorite of the trip.

I envy your beach vacation so much. Was it warm enough to swim or not yet? The water in Myrtle Beach, SC is warm early in the summer, but the water here in New England never really warms up. Thanks for sharing your great photos with us.

Your pictures made me drool. I love the Delaware shore and hope to get there this year. I could just smell the ocean! You had the ideal vacation.

Cute photos. Looks like y’all had a good time at the beach!

The park looks like a great place to go bike riding. We’re hoping to get out on our bikes next week when DH is on vacation. We’re going to play tourist in our own town.

it always goes way too fast. it’s so nice you were able to take that detour! I’d like to do that this year on our drive (10 hrs - ugh!) to the Outer Banks - there are tons of roadside produce stands and I don’t like that “rush” feeling to get there! Looks like you had an amazing time!

makes me homesick! funny about Sea Needles too-that’s where my first needles and yarn came from-my stepmom taught me to knit and the store is about a block from her house ;)

That pic of the 2 sisters playing in the sand was stunning. If ever there was a holiday card picture demanding to be made, that is it.

Your beach photos are beautiful! The lighting is just so lovely. I think these must be nieces on your side of the family (rather than on Chris’s side) because they look so much like you :)

What great pictures! It sure looks like you had a lovely time. I love your nieces little yellow sun dress.

Looks like you had a lovely beach break! Isn’t it fun to have a ‘routine’ vacation escape & add some new elements to it? :)
