Bella is a beauty, just as her name implies. We adopted her from the ASPCA three years ago last spring. She has such a sweet personality and is a real cuddle-bug. She is a 55-lb dog that thinks she can sit in your lap.
We adopted Quincy four and a half years ago from another local shelter. There were five tuxedo kittens in his litter, and it was simply too hard to choose, so I just picked one of them up. Quincy has grown into quite a handsome young man.
They are little reminders of this month’s Project Spectrum colors!
(more pet pics here + Jen and Rusty!)

That second picture of Bella is STUNNING!!
Lovely pics, Lolly. Both of them are so adorable.
Oh my goodness! I’ve been missing living with animals for months now…. a certain Yorkie puppy named Benny in particular, but I’m not picky. Please give your animals extra love from someone who’s got some to spare!
I love your animals!
K-bye!
There was an interesting article in a recent People magazine about Big Black Dogs and how they’re the hardest to adopt out of shelters, for some reason (people are afraid of them, maybe). It’s good to see that you’ve got a sweet one in your life.
Oh, and there’s a little Tuxedo cat that visits my front porch every night, and drives my indoor girls bonkers. Cute as the dickens, though!
They are both gorgeous! I have a tuxedo kitty too : )
Awe I’m a sucker for pet photos. Do they get along? Sometimes my dog and cat fight like, well cats and dogs, and then other times I catch them snuggling. They don’t fool me.
Lovely pictures. I’ve got one of those huge lapdogs too, though mine’s a golden retriever – not just heavy but hairy with it!
Ok, Bella should be in magazines – or you should give up your day job and become a world-famous photographer! I love Q too, but I’m a dog person.
Your animals are beautiful!!
I have a photo of MY Bella on my blog. She’s a cat! She looks NOTHING like your Bella.
what a great way to work Project Spectrum! Love the photos, Lolly.
awww – i always love pet pictures!!!!
Thanks for sharing!! It’s so nice to hear that people adopt from their local shelters. So many sweet animals to love that need homes. I want to take them all in!!!
Beautiful furbabies! I love tuxedo kitties. I also applaud your adoption of rescue and shelter animals. There are so many cats and dogs looking for good homes.
Great pictures — they look like such nice companions. Makes me want a dog even more!
Photography question……..I have the Rebel XT, the model before your camera……….which lens did you use for these beautiful shots and what were your settings? It is not always easy to photograph black.
Very lovely pet pictures. Your Bella is so shiny and lovely, and what handsome eyes on Quincy.
Rebecca: I used my 100mm Macro for closeups – I think most of these are shot in TV or Manual mode, but I don’t quite remember… I play around with my settings quite a bit from picture to picture, and then choose the best ones and load them into Adobe Lightroom. That is how we got the desaturated b/w shot of Bella above.
Quincy’s coloring makes me want a kitty of my own! Both your pets are very handsome!
Gorgeous! I’ve always had a weakness for black critters. Your Bella reminds me of our Belle, who’s been gone for several years. What a sweetie!
Fabulous photos! I love the second, black on black.
Bella is gorgeous. So shiny.
Quincy looks like he could be quite mischevious.
oh my they’re both so beautiful! and yes..gorgeous photos as always.
what beautiful (and color appropriate) family members! I plan to try to take some photos of my little Bella today (she is an all black kitty) while she is at the doctors. (just a check up.)
Awww, your animals are so cute! Especially Quincy!
Quincy *is* quite a handsome tuxedo cat!
Oh such beautiful babies, in particular Bella – what a beautiful girl! Bayou says “woof woof”!
what beautiful pets you have! they have such beautiful coats. mine dogs always look grungy and filthy, even right after their baths. how do you get them so shiny?
Gorgeous portraits! I love the shine on their coats.
awwww. i never, ever, ever get tired of seeing pictures of people’s animals. your doggy and kitty are so cute!
Fantastic pet portraits!
Oh, goodness, they are just too sweet and lovely for words! Thanks for sharing – and, this means my Sammy qualifies as project spectrum – get ready for a Sam photo shoot.
: )
Aww! Bella reminds me so much of my Dakota. Not just in that they’re both black adoptees, but that curled up pose- Dakota does the same thing, and loves to cuddle up with us. Too cute!
I love that second picture of Bella. You are so talented with that camera Lolly!
wow! i have a black and white cat named quincy too. he’s less then a year old, but i promise you that i had no idea your cat existed when i named him!
Awwww, they are so cute!
They are gorgeous!
Nice job capturing Bella! I have a black dog too, and I have the hardest time getting good contrast in photos of her.
They are so sweet!!
Beautiful pets! I just love animals! Check out my site for two new kitty additions — George and Gracie!
What great pictures Bella is a beautiful Dog!
