Montego for Mimi

Published by lolly at 10:17 am under Montego Bay Scarf, Photography, Travel, USA - North Carolina

I promised a finished knit photo shoot and I deliver! My sister and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon at a small beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina; it was a perfect backdrop for her birthday scarf’s debut! Mimi was a great model!

Pattern: Interweave Knits, Summer 2007
Yarn: Blue Heron Mercerized Cotton Laceweight
Needles: Size US 7

Simple lace with a dramatic effect. It is a great stashbusting piece too. I bought this yarn about three years ago and since I am not much of a lace knitter, it lingered in the stash. This pattern came along, and Mimi dropped some serious hints about wanting a wrap/scarf for her upcoming birthday, so it seemed like it was time to cast on with the lovely yarn. I doubled the yarn for the entire scarf, and I used approximately 600 yards of the 1100 yard hank. It is about six feet long, enough to double over around the neck, or to wear as a shoulder wrap like Mimi shows in the pictures. Happy birthday, sweet sister!

It was a warm weekend, but I had great light for some picture-taking. I have not uploaded all of my photos yet, but you can see most of them on my Flickr page.

Ooh, what beach were you on? We go to the Outer Banks for vacation (up towards Nags Head/Kitty Hawk), but the smallish area where we used to stay is getting more and more crowded and the tiny, cute houses are being replaced by McMansions. (although last year we stayed in a McMansion and it was lovely…) I’d love to find a smaller beach to visit the next time we go down!

LOVE Montego Bay, I’ll have to take another look at that pattern. Funny how some patterns never catch my eye until I see other people’s finished projects!

The scarf is lovely! Mmmm, I love the Outer Banks! We try to go to a new place every summer so we can (maybe) see it all by the time we move away from this part of the country.

I love the Outer Banks. My sister lives down there which is a great excuse to visit. I’ll be going there in August….

Pretty scarf — gotta love Blue Heron yarns! :-)

Looks like a great time! And that scarf is so pretty! They should have used your pictures in the magazine…it shows the scarf off to its best advantage.

Beautiful pictures, beautiful scarf, beautiful sisters, beautiful beach and scenery! =)

The scarf looks great! Did you do it without the fringe? I have a hank of silk that I think would be lovely and perfect for this pattern, but I wouldn’t have enough for the fringe. I’m not a big fan of fringe anyway, but I was worrying that it might not drape/hang proplerly without it…

I haven’t gotten to the beach yet this year. I must remedy that!

Very pretty scarf Lolly! A perfect birthday present!

  44. Sueon 11 Jul 2007 at 8:03 pm

Mimi and you look so alike. She looks gorgeous with the scarf too, what a wonderful and perfect present for her. The house on the beach looks wonderful too, is that where your staying or is it just a house that you like. I love looking at older style houses, they intrigue me. The beach looks so relaxing and compared to us in the middle of Winter I would welcome some warmer weather, although not too hot.

  45. Traceyon 12 Jul 2007 at 2:10 pm

It’s absolutely gorgeous! What a fabulous “photo shoot”. All FO’s should be photographed on the beach.
