Action-Packed
This weekend was filled to the brim with activities…
Friday the 13th party at A Tangled Skein
Eunny and I went down to Hyattsville for the new yarn shop’s party. Both of us checked out this store earlier in the spring, and it was great to see it again – they have many yarns, a beautiful atmosphere, and some great spaces for sitting and knitting. We dined across the street at the fun pub called Franklin’s, and then went over to the yarn shop for their after-hours Friday the 13th party. Once the clock struck 9:00pm, the whole inventory was 20% off! There were so many nice people (Hi Amy, Michelle, Gwen, Jennifer and Amy!) and so many yummy treats! I also had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Hannah and her family.
I have followed Hannah’s blog for months: reading about her knitting, book research, local food adventures, and her family’s activities. I even participated in her fun knit-along Fair Isle February. We have corresponded many times, but never had the chance to officially meet. It was such a pleasure to meet David, her partner, and their amazing son (they both knit too!)

David and Eunny knitting socks
Eunny and I were having so much fun that the hours just flew by – it was great to meet so many of you at the shop! Eunny left with some fun yarns – three sock yarns and some silk blend for a tank top. I kept my cool and left empty-handed, although I was quite tempted to try some of the bamboo yarns!
Saturday, Kris and I woke up early and hit the trails. We both got new hiking boots for our Peru trip, and we are breaking them in on some of the more rugged trails. It was a beautiful morning and not too hot and humid.
After a quick shower and lunch, we headed off to see the new Harry Potter movie. Amazing how they made the longest book into the shortest movie. It is quite dark and rather sad, so it is hard to say I “liked” it, but I thought it was well-done. After the last movie in 2005, there were some great discussions cropping up on the blogs about the knitwear in the movies; this movie didn’t disappoint either – there were some great pieces – both knit and crochet. I particularly loved Neville’s herringbone cardigan and Ginny’s crocheted vest in the Christmas scenes; alas, I could not find any stills of them. Hermione’s yoked pullover was quite cute too. I think Erin is already planning to make one of those!
…and the day was completed with a wonderful show!

The Decemberists and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
This was the third time I saw them live, and I think it was my favorite of all. The set list did not include as many songs as the other shows, unfortunately, but there were some great improvisations with the orchestra. And what are the chances of running into a fellow blogger at the show? Ann and her friend sat right in front of us!!
Sunday was nice and quiet… more details on the knitting later

Yarn, new shoes and loads of friends new and old, the perfect weekend. It looks great and I am really looking forward to seeing the Harry Potter movie.
I can’t wait to see all the photos you’ll take in Peru. Great idea to test-drive the boots!
Sounds like a fun time all around! The Potter film is great. But I still think the Alfonso Cuaron one is the best (Prisoner of Azkhaban). I really wish he would direct another one!
Hi Lolly!! the Decemberists performance looks real cool!
Looks like you had a great weekend!
Busy weekend with lots of fun! I saw HP5 yesterday – and now I just wanting for the last book to arrive..
Oooh where are you going in Peru? I push this book on everyone, but it’s a great read for anyone trekking to Inca land. “The White Rock. An Exploration of the Inca Heartland” by Hugh Thomson. It’s one part Inca history/history of exploration in the area and one part account of his own treks through previously forgotten trails. He’s not a super polished writer, but it kept me riveted to the end.
What a lovely weekend you had, a perfect balance between the knitting related things and everything else. ^^
damn girl – you had a rock-star weekend! such fun adventures. it was great seeing you at the show!!
We didn’t officially meet Friday night, but I was the one on the floor knitting my Wick sweater. That was a really fun gathering, for sure. We at the SSK group in Silver Spring hope you (and Eunny) will visit our group soon. Have fun in Peru!
What a pleasure to meet you finally! Love all the pics you have here. Sounds like a great weekend!
Lolly – I had the exact same thought about Neville’s sweater – my friends laughed really hard when he came on screen wearing it and I said aloud “Great sweater!”
i shouldn’t have read this on a monday morning. makes me long for the weekend!
It was so nice to meet you on Friday night! Thanks for being so nice after I totally stalked you. I’m on flickr, too, so I will see you in the flick-o-sphere!
What a weekend! My brother lives just down the road from Franklin’s in Mount Rainier, and I had NO IDEA there was a yarn shop right across the street. I’ll have to visit the next time I’m visiting with him and his family.
so much fun! Looks like you def. had a great weekend. and gee, now I think I need MORE malabrigo, b/c I love the indigo colorway (seems like a mix of the violetas and paris nights colors… which I have)
I’m so jealous you saw the Decemberists with the orchestra!! We were in Baltimore on Saturday, but didn’t hear about the show until we got to the Sound Garden that afternoon… I guess that’s what happens when you live in DC, which so far seems to be seriously lacking in the rock music scene department…
What a perfect weekend!
Wow! So much fun! Don’t you just LOVE Keens! I got a pair myself for our recent hiking trip vacation. They were the best! And the Decemberists! I’ve been listening to them a lot lately and even woke up with one of their songs in my head this morning…yup…still there.
Lolly! I was at that show too! I was just reading about their Atlanta date on another blog and was disappointed to see that they did “16 Military Wives” there, which I had been hoping to hear just because I thought it would sound great with the orchestra. But I loved the show, and the encore!
looks like you had quite the action packed weekend! love the new Keens – they are so comfy!!!! I walked out of harry potter feeling much the same – it was very well done, but I couldn’t find myself saying “Wow, what a great movie – I loved it!” like I could with the others. Maybe it was the darker edge this one had….
so many fun things! it’s fun things overload! ahhh!
oooh! I just saw the Decemberists last night here in Philly with the Mann symphony orchestra. It was a great show!!
Sounds like a great time! I have those same boots – and I love them! They’re great for hiking.
Loved Ginny’s orange vest! I kept hoping she would stand still so I could get a good look at it. What must that be like, designing knitwear for the HP movies?!
Glad you enjoyed our hometown (Portland, OR) band. There was a review of the concert in Baltimore in The Oregonian this morning. I was surprised because they don’t usually review out of town concerts. They are playing in Chicago and Philadelpia, too.
Peru? How cool!
I love Keens too. I wish I could have been sitting there knitting with you guys!
Peru, huh? Hiking up to Machu Pichu, by any chance? (That’s in Peru, right?) Will no doubt be a wonderful trip.
You *know* if there was a mention of the Decemberists I’d post
Things have been crazy around here, till recently, and I’m catching up on your blog again.
