MDSW: Past Festivals

The adorable furry animals!

The wonderful people!

The luscious fibers!

This will be my fourth Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival.  I still marvel at the fact that I live in the town that attracts thousands of fiber enthusiasts from all over the country (world?) on this one weekend!  When we moved here in 2001, I was not a knitter yet – I had no way of knowing.  Pure luck or providence?   Whatever it was, I am grateful.

I don’t have a particular list this year, but I do have some stops I want to make.  This is my first year as a weaver, so I am planning to get some more linen for rugmaking, as well as a new reed so that I can weave finer gauge items.   As for knitting, I am planning to look for beautiful complementary colors from local sources – I want some good wool for colorwork and sweater making.  I am not planning to go crazy this year, but I guess that is all relative.  I have a large stash already, and plenty of projects I am planning that use those yarns.  Then again, the festival (and my vacations) are the only real yarn-buying times for me anyway.  Maybe I shouldn’t feel too guilty…

My dear friend Jenna is flying in from Seattle tonight (late!), and we will be at the festival on both days.  On Sunday, my mom will join me!  We are planning to attend the Ravelry meetup, and also the Ravelry party later in the evening.  I would love to meet you, so if you are there and you see me, please say hi!

What is the big deal about MS&W anyway? I live pretty close to it and every year I feel like I SHOULD go, but I can’t really get that excited about looking at so much yarn.

Maybe next year we’ll be able to go. I’m very jealous of all the people in blogland and on Ravelry who are getting to go. Sadly, the travel just wasn’t possible for us this time.

    Have fun!

    Hooray! I’m getting excited :)
This will also be my 4th festival – I moved out here right after the 2003 one (and I was a knitter, and I was disappointed that I was missing it!), and then missed last year (stupid work trip!). I’ll have the baby, so it will be a new experience :)
And I’m so glad to hear that Jenna will be there! I can’t wait to see you both.

Hello! I grew up out east and your blog makes me homesick! Have fun at sheep and wool today. My mom will be there working in the Handweavers Guild of America booth. She is a knitter who started weaving much the way you did – “Hey, I want to do that!” Somehow, looms and teachers have just fallen into her lap. Through the guild, she has learned so much about weaving. If you see an extremely outgoing lady named Jean P., tell her hello from her daughter in Wisconsin.

I saw you in the crowd up in the main building area and said to myself “there’s Lolly” but decided not to chase after you! LOL! It was nice to see a familiar face!!

I want to hear all about it………… can you see me tapping my foot??? :)

I used to live in Maryland, back in the day. Way down in PG county. I used to drive up for the festival every year and miss it—– what coolness it was!!!!!!

Hope you are still counting and sorting all the goodies!!!!

I’m bummed I wasn’t able to go, but it’s nice to read your recap of what I missed–I’ll really have to try & make it next year.
