Socktoberfest: Covering the Map

Published by lolly at 5:08 pm under Socktoberfest 2008

I like charts and graphs and visual representations to prove a point…

And my point this time?

Socktoberfest is a worldwide phenomenon!

(updated 10.15.08)

Over 80% of you are from the US, so I wanted to show which states have Socktoberfest participants.  I am basing these stats on the questionnaire over on Ravelry.  Is your state green?  (nope, I did not make them “red” or “blue” on purpose!)  Please leave a comment and let me know and I will fill it in!  I would love to see all 50 states (+DC) represented!  (As you can see, we still need WV, AR, WY, and SD!)

And on the world stage!

Is your country represented?

(Accounted for: Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, South Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States)

Are you from a country that is not on the map?  Please let me know!  I would love to have an idea of where everyone is! :)

Color in New Mexico for me!

  3. Danielleon 14 Oct 2008 at 5:44 pm

You can add Louisiana! I may not be there at the moment, but I still consider it “my” state! :)

I hop between California and Minnesota through the year — right now, and all of October, I’m in Minnesota. Does that count? And I’m sort of participating. I’m not knitting a ton of socks, but I’m trying, when I have knitting time.

  13. amion 14 Oct 2008 at 10:08 pm

You can count me in for Idaho too! (I just cast off my first pair of Socktoberfest socks).

  14. Kristinon 14 Oct 2008 at 10:16 pm

I’m from MO! Sorry I didn’t get over to the forum to fill out the questionaire. I love the Ravelry forums, but I just don’t have time for them!

  15. Kirstenon 14 Oct 2008 at 10:21 pm

Very cool! I know of at least two from Alaska that are in my Socktoberfest Mystery Sock KAL.

  16. LittleWiton 14 Oct 2008 at 10:22 pm

It’s so cool to see those maps filling up. It’d be even cooler to see them completely green/red. :) My state and country are already claimed so I am no help.

Add Florida! I’m working on Orange STR socks for Socktoberfest!

Hello Lolly, these maps are a really great idea! (ok, I love maps and am known to waste ….ah spend a lot of time with Google Earth, I am strange like that). But please add Austria!! Doris

  31. Jenniferon 15 Oct 2008 at 8:21 am

That is so cool. I’d have never thought to represent it by a map. I do think I’m the only one not knitting a mystery sock right now though. I have excellent knitting excuses though. Happy Socktoberfest!

  32. Heatheron 15 Oct 2008 at 8:23 am

Add another to the Alabama tally!

  35. Stephanie Bon 15 Oct 2008 at 10:48 am

That is so neat. To bad I don’t knit socks yet. Maybe next year!

  42. Terrion 16 Oct 2008 at 10:52 pm

Wow – what a great way to connect people from all over the world!! I think it would be a way to peace – one sock at a time – well……maybe a pair at a time – as so many are trying to get that second sock finished :)

  43. mumintrollon 17 Oct 2008 at 11:01 am

I’m from Switzerland. I love the Socktoberfest

  51. Margaritaon 22 Oct 2008 at 5:58 pm

Lolly, It’s been a long time I do not stop at your page. You are doing lovely things as always. I am not knitting socks yet. I need to learn a very, very basic way of doing it and I am willing to receive your advice or anybody’s advice. I am from Uruguay, the little country between Argentina and Brazil. Always love to stop at your page. It is so much fun!!!!

  52. Emilyon 24 Oct 2008 at 2:55 pm

Count me as another person representing Mississippi! :-D

  53. christinon 25 Oct 2008 at 9:12 am

I can’t help thinking that there is something wrong about the map. Why isn’t there anyone from South Dakota? I feel I want to register for SD even if I’m not there at the moment but do really love the place. Can I?

  54. Paola Pachecoon 25 Oct 2008 at 11:02 pm
