“Breezeway” Noro Socks
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden Sock, colorway S269
Pattern: Classic Socks in Folk Socks, by Nancy Bush
Needles: Size US 2 / 2.75mm
Started for the Project Spectrum AIR element back in June, I finally finished these socks in Socktoberfest. I have never met a Noro yarn that I did not like – but I am not wholly convinced that this yarn is suitable for small gauge sock projects. The yarn broke on me several times, all while doing k2tog decreases (and I don’t knit particularly tight) for the gusset, heel, and toes. The yarn would be much better suited for a project on bigger needles with looser tension: shawls, scarves, and garments. The yarn created a thick and warm fabric with the size 2 double pointed needles. The yarn does have some thick and thin spots – another factor that led me to think that this yarn would be better suited for a different kind of project. I will definitely wear these socks – their thickness relegates them to boots more so than my regular work shoes. They would also be perfect house socks, but that feels a touch indulgent, considering they are silk, and they would just end up with dust bunnies and dog hair all over them
Completing these socks, and my Laila’s from the last post means that I actually met my goal for this year’s Socktoberfest! I finished both of the single socks on the needles. With a few days to spare even… in the meantime, I am already planning ahead for plenty of warm sweaters and scarves, and even another pair of socks too…

Hi Lolly! I’ve been reading your blog for a bit now. You have gorgeous photos, and I was so moved by this post’s pictures to tell you so! (I am sure you hear it all the time…)
Thank you for sharing your beautiful photography, projects and thoughts.
All warm wishes,
Brandi
I have some Noro in the same colorway. Love your socks. I like the Noro sock yarn, especially the Kureyon because I really like the way they feel on my feet…more like a cotton than a wool, but warmer than cotton.
That colorway is pretty special. Good to know your opinions on the sock yarn, I was curious. I’d used the Kureyon Sock, but I have many sock yarns in the old queue before I’d get round to knitting with the Silk Garden.
Beautiful leaves. Glad to hear to finished Socktoberfest successfully. Did you go to SAFF in NC this weekend? And moreover, are you gearing up for NaNoWriMo?
great post.. Love the leaves. The socks look great. Congatulations on meeting your goal.:D
Congratulations on getting both of your sock mates done! I’m still working on my second sock – for my first pair – and I’m going to have to find more time if I’m going to be done by the end of the month!!
Love the fall colours…
Lovely photos and lovely socks! They look super comfy!
Congrats with reaching your goal!
The pics are (as always) stunning. And about the noro sock yarn: totally agree!

Such a great pattern/color combo. I much prefer the Silk Garden sock yarn to the Kureypn:)
very nice – i feel the same way about the Noro sock – maybe stranded with a “regular” more even yarn they’d be better, but mine have thick and thin spots too…..
Love the socks and what a nice view!
Great leaf pictures! I love the socks!
I have a skein of the Kureyon Sock yarn, and even as I bought it I figured I was going to make a scarf or small shawl out of it. I chose a really bright colorway which I think would be good to brighten up a winter day. I like the subtle striping on your socks.
Thank You for the review of Noro’s sock yarn! My LYS has it in stock, but no one is really all that sure of it. After reading your blog, I think I’ll stay away for now.
And congrats on hitting your Socktoberfest goal! I have one pair of socks for my 2 year old to do, and I’ll make mine too!
ahh those socks look so comfy!! am TRYING to finish a pair before Friday!! AHH! haha
Love the photos too… i heart fall.
That is a perfect pic of you and the pooch.
Well, I signed up for Socktoberfest and was pretty gung ho. But all I’ve managed to do it wind two sock yarn skeins into balls.
It hit me this weekend that there remains two months until a certain gifty holiday and so I’ve been concentrating on quick (quicker than socks) knits.
But I was with you in spirit! haha.
I don’t care what you say, I love those socks!
I just cast on for some socks (after I said I wasn’t participating in Socktoberfest). My goal is to at least finish ONE sock. Maybe two. We’ll see!
Gosh, those leaves are beautiful colours! Is that your dog, he/she looks nice!
The leaves are gorgeous. Congratulations on meeting your goal early.
hi Lolly
I’d have to agree with you about the Noro sock yarns! I made a pair using Kureyon Sock and it was a major struggle to finish. The yarn was stiff, scratchy, it kinked up constantly. After I washed them they softened considerably and I am shocked how often I wear them!
That said, I also agree these yarns would be wonderful for lacy scarves.
The photos are great; who is that cute doggie?
That’s Jenny dog
She gets some time around the blog every once in awhile, but you may not recognize her as she is a little chunkier around the middle than she was before… (all my pet photos here!)
gorgeous photos and socks!
Congrats on finishing them and on your Socktober success! Your review of the yarn is good information to have, although I think we sock knitters deserve at least oen totally indulgent, non-practical pair of socks – mine are alpaca.
It looks like you and Jen enjoyed what looks like a lovely fall day – yay!
Congratulations on finishing your goal. Love the Ravelry shirt, but wondered at the ab muscles necessary to get the two feet in the air shot. ; )
Beautiful socks and congratulations on meeting your goals! I love it when that happens.
Thanks for sharing all the photos, beautiful pics of the wedding. Love the socks too! And the gorgeous fall tree.
Lovely socks! And the leaves aren’t too bad either!
I’ve yet to see Silk Garden sock over here. I could be really tempted by this colourway but the snapping yarn sounds a bit of a nightmare. They look just the perfect hiking sock though. Very snuggly!
Can I just say brilliant colors! I am talking of the pictures with leafs agains the blue sky, of course! Wonderful!
That looks like a happy day.
The photos are blissful. Lovely socks too!
Gorgeous leaves! The socks look perfect for fall – warm and cozy!
OHhhhh!!! beautiful pictures!!! and leaves and socks!!! congrats. I love those trees!!
Hurray for Fall (and warm socks!) I love my handknit socks – but I dislike wearing shoes in the house and all house socks = dog hair magnets – so they don’t seem to get worn as much as they deserve. I’ll have to find some willing donors!
Your Laila’s are lovely too!
Great socks=happy feet! Those leaves are incredible, too.
Yay for comfy socks! And, those trees – breathtaking!
Gorgeous pictures…as always
cute doggie!
I *just* got that sock yarn in the same colorway! I might have to reconsider using it for socks though, having read your post.
Super shots of fall leaves. Another great pair of socks
wow, love the flaming leaf photo!
