Shifting to the EAST
Can you feel the winds of change, my friends? those winds are coming from the east!
Two months went by in the blink of an eye. What a beautiful time it was too. It seems like this cardinal direction idea for this round of Project Spectrum really resonated with people. The Ravelry group was active, and there are tons of photos on Flickr too. Thank you for your contributions and for all of the creativity and inspiration you provide!
Yellow dandelions – a sign of spring – amongst the green grasses. And once the ~air~ comes through, new yellow blossoms will pop up everywhere! (…you may call them weeds, but I love dandelions!)
Project Spectrum’s NORTH direction started with a very fitting winter snow storm in my area, and slowly we saw green began to emerge, finally ending with many promises of spring. The major highlight for my projects was my March trip to the Pacific Northwest, which seemed to embody so many aspects of Project Spectrum for me – winter, evergreens, earth element, mountains. It was perfect.
EAST will focus on spring, the Air element, and the natural material of wood. If you like to specifically work with color, you have lots of options – yellows and golds, whites, browns, grays, more greens… as always, the options are yours and you have full permission to play! I look forward to seeing what you do – I am constantly inspired by your work. I am still formulating some ideas about my own projects – it seems now that wood will play a big part, as I love trees, and I always enjoy exploring some of the scientific and philosophical aspects behind these things as well.
I would love to hear more about your plans ~ please feel free to share!

I love dandelions too. If people understood how beneficial they are, maybe they’d like them more. Dandelions often pop up in soil that’s overly compacted and doesn’t allow deep, healthy root growth. They have long, strong tap roots that break through the hard soil and when they die the roots leave space where air, water and nutrients can get past that hard barrier and reach deep down. And that allows other, more delicate (and more ‘desireable’) plants to grow strong. Yay dandelions.
And the young greens taste good too!
Your North mosaic is lovely. The colors of East are perfectly fitting for this time of year – right about now I always get the urge to knit something yellow or gold, even though they aren’t usually what I think of as “my colors”.
Why am I not surprised that among our commonalities we also share a love of dandelions?
I have a paperweight that is lucite with a dandelion seed puffball inside.
Beautiful pictures, as always! I am looking forward to participating in Project Spectrum more this element, as life (hopefully) slows down a bit for the summer.
two months passed already!? how did that happen?? sorry i haven’t been around and commenting. flickr has taken up most of my time
i love your dandelions photo.
I kind of got started on my North project late, but I’ll keep plugging away at it; it’s a February Lady Sweater in a pretty green/blue.
I must say, though, that East has been going on pretty much all the time here. My wedding colors are yellow and grey, and they’re pretty much all I’ve been working with, in projects from my homemade wedding flowers, homemade thank you notes, quilt squares for our guest quilt, to a felt laptop case I have in the works. I’m so excited! I’m also starting a cardigan for my mom, and she picked out a lovely, goldenrod yarn. I can’t wait!
Well there definitely seems to be a lot of dandelion love, which is great, and good for you too! If you’re looking for a recipe with a yellow PS theme, I just made some dandelion bread which was yum! I found the recipe here – http://fat-of-the-land.blogspot.com/2009/04/dandy-time-in-neighborhood.html
I am looking forward to the next direction for Project Spectrum, and the focus on spring!
Love your pictures..Beautiful dandelions also. Not much to say about what I’m doing this summer. Working 2 jobs mainly. I do have time to spin and knit and teach spinning classes in between but that is about it for me. I do have a vegetable garden that I’m praying does really well. Its new so we will see. Love reading your posts…Enjoy your beautiful weather.
