Thanks to you I’m knitting my first sock this october! I try to finish both socks this month, that’s my Socktoberfest goal. What a great idea! :)

  2. katebeeon 01 Oct 2009 at 6:57 am

All I have so far are vague plans to get started on some Christmas socks for my mama. She does love her socks. I’m thinking that this year I might just get some yarn with awesome colors, and make something that’s otherwise plain.

This is my plan now, of course. Anything could happen! Whee!

  3. Phoeon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:17 am

Today I’m casting on for the first pair of Christmas gift socks. I forgot all about the Mystery Sock, thanks for reminding me. :)

  4. Mary de Bon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:33 am

Ah, Socktoberfest is here again! I have a couple of unfinished pairs, which I hope will be finished by the end of the month!

  5. Vickieon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:38 am

I found the lone sock from last year and have cast on its mate.

  6. Janeton 01 Oct 2009 at 7:55 am

My handbag knitting has just gotten too big – so it’s back to sock-in-a-handbag, for buses, lunchbreaks, trains, pubs, parties….. :)
…. and to try and work my way through the sock stash (so I have an excuse to buy more :) )

  7. Estellaon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:55 am

It’s funny but I’m not a sock knitter. However, the mystery sock KAL has me tempted to try again. LOVE the color of the yarn.

  8. teresa c.on 01 Oct 2009 at 7:59 am

I’m getting my sock skills out of the drawer! Last year I knitted six pairs and then made a pause in sock knitting. But sockoctober got my fingers itching for some socks, so I chose a pattern i had in my queue for a long time and casted on. I’m knitting Crazy Stripes with a Kaffe Fassett yarn. :)

  9. PrairiePoppinson 01 Oct 2009 at 8:03 am

This Socktoberfest will be about knee socks. Can’t wait to start swatching today!

  10. Jenniferon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:04 am

I am very tempted to knit the Mystery Sock. I do already have a pair of Hedgerows on the needles, but I can’t resist such a fun concept.

  11. Shannonon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:07 am

I tackled the Rivendell pattern a couple weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see the complicated pattern rolling right off my needles. Today, for Socktober eve, I will finish the toe of the first sock. Socktoberfest will be dedicated to finishing the second. It might not sound fast, but it’s record speed for me!

  12. kate t.on 01 Oct 2009 at 8:12 am

i’m winding up yarn for a socktoberfest/xmas gift pair for my sister. cheers!

  13. barefoot roosteron 01 Oct 2009 at 8:13 am

i am totally digging out socks to knit. and i brought last year’s partially knit TTL mystery socks to my office — hoping that a change of scenery will help me make some more progress!

  14. AnnaReneeon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:15 am

I’m trying to finish up a pair of Monkey socks…and then start a pair for Christmas socks for my mom.

    YAY Socktober!!!

  15. Jenon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:16 am

This is my first Socktober and I am so excited to participate!! I’ve got one pair of socks that need a mate and two other pairs that I want to cast on for Christmas gifts….if I can finish that one pair and get another started I’ll be happy!! I also want to make a Christmas stocking (does that count??) for my husband for Christmas.

  16. Shirleyon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:16 am

Consider me inspired :-) Finishing up socks for my friend, Brian, first, then moving on down the “sock” list. Happy Socktoberfest!

  17. Carrieon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:29 am

Ooh, my socks on the needles have been sitting dormant since August. Time to dig those babies out and get to work!

  18. andreaon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:31 am

    Happy October and Socktober, Lolly!

I’m casting on for Kirsten’s Mystery Socks later today. Can’t wait. Sock have been on my brain for weeks!

  19. Kelseyon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:38 am

I’m working on plain stockinette socks with green stripes around the instep. When I get this one cast off I’m going to start the mystery sock for my boyfriend. Hopefully it’s masculine enough!

  20. Bamson 01 Oct 2009 at 8:42 am

Happy Socktober! I’m already working on a plain pair of ribbed lovelies during my son’s football practices, but in honor of Socktober I will be clicking over for that first clue on the Mystery socks and digging something purdy out of my sock yarn stash. Something autumnal will do the trick!

  21. Shayeon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:51 am

i’m starting my first EVER pair of socks today!
it’s so nerve wrecking and exciting! hopefully i can actually finish a pair!

  22. Shaynaon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:52 am

Happy Socktoberfest! I cast on yesterday. Trying Red Heart Heart and Sole in Toasted Almond as a gift for my mom.

  23. Annaon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:52 am

Yay! I am casting on (on 4 DPNs rather than 5 because I lost one :( ) today… really excited to try my first socks. Thanks for doing this, Lolly!

  24. Nicole Bon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:54 am

I am finally casting on for my first pair of Monkeys! Woo Hoo! I plan on making these a Christmas gift for one of my sister in laws, most likely they will fight over who gets them regardless of who gets them as an actual gift. :) Lovely giveaway!

  25. Samon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:55 am

I cast on my throughtheloops mystery sock this morning during my psychology class! Haven’t made it past the ribbing yet, but it feels very exciting to be knitting a pattern the same time as a bunch of other people (57 at least, according to Ravelry). How bad is it to frog a sock entirely during Socktober, since that’s about what I’m driven to on this other pair I started a while back. I had to rip back past the heel to fix a dropped and forgotten stitch and I just haven’t the heart to work it all back……

  26. Carolon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:58 am

I’m casting on my new Vesper Halloween yarn but I’m very tempted by the Mystery Sock pattern too!

  27. Tashaon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:58 am

This is my first Socktoberfest and I just might cast on for Kirsten Mystery Socks today. :)

  28. Emon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:59 am

Well I forgot about Socktober and actually finished a pair of socks last night just in time to miss it. I think I’ll dig through my single socks and resolve to finish at least one pair. Possibly my old Marigolds.

  29. Julieon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:00 am

I’ve only ever knit one pair of socks but I actually have some sock yarn waiting so I’d definitely like to try it out for Socktoberfest!

  30. Andreaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:01 am

I’m hoping to finish my first pair of socks for my husband :)

  31. melissaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:03 am

oh. lolly. socks are my weakness.

  32. Mickon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:04 am

I think I am going to try and participate this year, for the first time ever! My goals are two-fold: finish the Leybruns I’ve been knitting for over 4 months, and then knit a pair of socks with some sort of textured detail for my hubbie. I’m very excited!

  33. RBon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:04 am

I’m finishing two pairs up this month… one for me and one for my mother-in-law.

  34. Cathyon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:05 am

I hope to cast on the Through the Loops mystery sock when I get home tonight!

I also may attempt another mystery sock in the Solid Socks group.

And I have a mystery sock pair to finish up from September – just the toe!

I love knitting mystery socks! Bring on Socktober!!

    -etownknitter (on ravelry)

  35. felinemagneton 01 Oct 2009 at 9:06 am

I finally decided to make a pair of Waving Lace socks from the “Favorite Socks” book, a pattern I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’ll cast on tonight during the Caps game – Happy Start-of-Hockey-Season!!!

  36. Natashaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:07 am

Hee hee! I might already have four pairs of socks on the needles (and a few other things as well!) but I’m casting on THREE pairs for October – the Through the Loops mystery, the SolidSocks Mystery and a pair of Chevron de Paix (for which I’ve made a donation to my favourite charity). No idea if I will finish any of them, but it’ll be fun trying :-)

  37. Sarahon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:07 am

I really want to finish my first pair of Jaywalkers this month. I stopped working on them almost a month ago and I think Socktober is the perfect time to put them back in the knitting rotation.

  38. Angelaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:14 am

I am dedicated to finishing my husband’s NY Giants socks that were supposed to be done before pre-season started. It’s been raining and chilly all week so I hope to have them done by this Sunday!

  39. Nadineon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:15 am

I’m halfway through a pair in plain stockinette but I’m getting ready to cast on another one using a pattern from “Knitting Vintage socks” (not sure which one, yet). We finally have the right weather for wool socks here in Germany!

  40. megon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:15 am

I’m finishing a way-long-stalled pair of socks that I started two years ago and decided last night that I don’t want to frog. Got a sock-and-a-half to go!

  41. Corrniaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:17 am

I’m waiting for some sock yarn that should be arriving any day now so I can work on a new design!

  42. Stephanieon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:17 am

I didn’t know about the mystery sock–just the excuse I need to put off finishing my orphan pairs. The weather is really getting cold here, so I need to expand my sock wardrobe quickly.

  43. Joannaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:19 am

I’m about 3/4 of the way through a pair of Brach’s Socks (Trekking #126) and now that the air is a little crisper it’s just the incentive I need to finish them up and enjoy them!

  44. Karenon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:21 am

I have no socks on the needles right now so I was going to cast on some Monkeys… but the mystery idea is so much fun, it’s going to be the mystery socks!

  45. Lindsayon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:24 am

It’s getting into the intense part of the college semester, so I’m definitely doing that…but on the knitting front I’ve got Charade, Fetching, a cabled hat, and something in black Baruffa Cashwool going…the laceweight is giving me a hard time figuring out what it should be, though.

  46. paula.thequilteron 01 Oct 2009 at 9:24 am

I am halfway through the second sock of a pair for my sis, but I am casting on for the TTL KAL anyway. It’s not like I don’t have a gazillion needles for socks. *smile*

  47. Kassiaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:30 am

I’m going to try to finish up all the unfinished socks I’ve got lying around- 3 pairs I think? Only one is a challenging lace knit with charts so I should be able to get the other pairs finished at least. I’m also wanting to knit the Mystery Socks but I can’t decide which yarn to use. Decisions, decisions!! :)

  48. Amberon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:31 am

I’m knitting the Jenny Wren socks in a really gorgeous Claudia Handpaints in all shades of purple. I’m about 60% done with the right sock (knitting on DPNs for a change – and I think I’ll go back to 2 at a time).

  49. Sockbugon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:32 am

Love the photo with the magnifying glass!

  50. Tamon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:35 am

I’m shamelessly commenting in hopes of winning the yarn. :-) Also, that picture with the magnifying glass is pretty much the coolest picture I’ve EVER seen on a knit blog. Just sayin’.

  51. Liz Uon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:38 am

I’m trying, valiantly, to finish up the last pair of socks I started for myself, and then start my husband’s Christmas socks. [My ONLY Christmas knitting this year. Swear it.]

Then, I may knit the mystery sock. I didn’t originally have plants, but oh, it looks so intriguing!

  52. Kathode Ray Tubeon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:38 am

I’m planning to resume a pair of socks in progress, though I am always tempted to start a new pattern!

  53. melon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:42 am

oh my goodness, those are sooo my colour! I have a second sock to do for my husband, if I can find the original pattern then I’ll pick them up :)

  54. Amandaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:44 am

I have two lone socks that need mates. I’ll be tackling those this month because there’s nothing like handknit wool socks in the winter.

  55. Lisaon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:45 am

hi Lolly. My socktober plans this year will likely mean casting on for another pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. I set a goal of knitting every pattern in the book and have done two so far. Only 22 more to go! Yay for knitting theme months!

  56. Sarahon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:45 am

    Happy Socktoberfest Lolly :)

I was planning on joining you on knitting some baby socks and working on my over the knee socks and then I got tempted by the mystery sock – so it’s a good job socks don’t have seams or my knitting would be bursting at them!

  57. porpoiseon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:49 am

Hooray for October and more socks! I’m slogging my way through a pair of blue Viper Pilots for a Christmas present (also for Project Spectrum) and plan to cast on Eunice (Cookie A) before the end of the month. If I can get both finished, it will be a good month.

  58. Jennon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:50 am

I’m going to wade through the sock stash today and pick out a pair of socks to travel with, something stockinette-ish and simple. And I’m celebrating Socktoberfest by WEARING handknit socks, it’s cold out there this morning!

  59. kimon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:55 am

Hi Lolly! My first Soctoberfest, and my first comment, I think, although I read your blog all the time. This year, the sock spirit is in me, and the timing is right, and I do think I’m going to do the mystery sock knitalong, because why not? I have lots of sock yarn in the stash, so today after work, I’m going to sit down and pick something! Thanks for always being so inspiring!

  60. mary bon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:58 am

Love that yarn! I might even learn to knit socks with that!!

  61. Hespetreon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:59 am

    Happy Socktober!
I’ve never been a part of it before, but now I recently discovered the wonders of sock knitting and can’t seem to stop. Right now I’m starting black alpaca bed socks for my dad’s birthday next wednesday.

  62. Eliseon 01 Oct 2009 at 9:59 am

I started a pair of socks last month after a long absence. I just finished the first one and will probably finish the second before starting my holiday knitting.

  63. Sarah Jacksonon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:01 am

I’m knitting several pair of baby socks because a) I always stall out on grown up socks and b) we have a use for them. Oh, and I’m finishing some self striping knee highs for my 7 year old.

  64. CarolynEllon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:05 am

I’m finally making my boyfriend a pair of socks. His birthday is November 1st, so it’s perfect for Socktoberfest! I’m making a pair of Anne Hanson’s David socks with DiC Smooshy and I’m going to alter the toes for tabi socks, since he likes the Japanese style of socks. I’m excited for the challenge!

  65. RLJon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:08 am

I’m knitting socks to give away this year. It’s the first time I’ve done so, up to now all my sock knitting has been selfish. The goal is to finish knitting 5 pairs of socks by Christmas. The first pair has 4 rounds left on the first toe. I think I will always have a pair of socks with me to knit – every where I go this month.

  66. kelly-ann (on Ravelry)on 01 Oct 2009 at 10:12 am

I cast on a pair of sport-weight socks – I need a fast knit ;) I am thinking about doing the mystery sock KAL as well since I had so much fun with it last year.

  67. Caroleon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:17 am

I had such fun last year with the TTL Mystery Sock that I’m doing it again this year. I love socktoberfest!

  68. Kerneknopon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:18 am

Not only have I just started the Mystery Socks today, but I’ve also already worked on two other pairs of socks today that I want to finish during this month. It will be the crazy month of socks and I’m looking so much forward to get deeper into it. Yay for Socktober!!!

  69. Llamabeanon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:25 am

I am working on a pair of socks from Nancy Bush’s Vintage Socks for my husband, and probably starting a pair of baby socks for my niece this weekend. Missed last year due to some family stuff so this year I am sock focused :)

  70. Caiton 01 Oct 2009 at 10:27 am

I woke up before dawn (thank you jetlag) with plans of starting my Mystery Socks, only to realize that the bag with all my needles was in my suitcase downstairs and I couldn’t reach it without waking up the whole house. Instead, I started a knitting blog. I’ve found my needles now, though, so it’s time to cast on.

  71. LEOon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:29 am

I am *so* excited for fall and wool sock season! On a whim this morning I decided to cast on for Kirsten’s mystery socks. I can’t wait to see what I’m knitting! :)

  72. Amy Pon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:33 am

Oh, yeah. I’m casting on. My goal this month is to simply knit as much on socks as possible. I have an overload of sock yarn in my stash, so the current plan is to reach into the yarn bin, pull out something randomly, and then find a pattern to match the yarn.

  73. Lisaon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:38 am

I’m finishing up two pair of socks. One top-down two at a time on Magic Loop, and one toe up on two circs (one sock at a time) ‘Course, I’m also plotting and scheming what to cast on next!

  74. Chrison 01 Oct 2009 at 10:41 am

Hurray for Socktoberfest! Last year I had just learned how to knit. This year I know what I’m doing & can join in the fun. I have Monkey socks on my needles & will be giving Kirsten’s Mystery Sock a go.

  75. valokkion 01 Oct 2009 at 10:43 am

I’m going to get started on the christmas knitting. Everyone will get a pair of socks this year! :)

  76. Charlotteon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:43 am

I’m going to finish my first pair of toe-up socks this month, languishing for the past few months. Woo!

  77. Graceon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:44 am

Woo hoo! Just finished a pair of socks…just in time to start the mystery sock. Plus I just got the new Cookie A book, so I may start one of those, too. Bring on Socktoberfest!

  78. Lucyon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:47 am

Happy Socktoberfest to you too, Lolly!
I’m planning on finishing a pair of Kai-Meis and then casting on a pair of deliciously cabled socks.

  79. josieon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:47 am

I literally just finished the toe on the first of a pair of socks for my fella and plan to finish the second for socktoberfest. I also plan to make some mini socks for an advent calender! I also have 2 more ufo socks to work on too.

  80. Hillaryon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:52 am

Happy Socktoberfest! I have lots of socks planned for Socktoberfest. Lot’s of orange and rust and all kinds of fall colors. I may even try the Mystery sock. It should be fun!

  81. Mandyon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:53 am

Oh, Lolly. I’m dreaming of socks but fear there’s no time to sqeeze in any sock knitting this month. Maybe I should pull out a few half-knit pairs…

  82. Aliciaon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:53 am

Yay for Socktober! I have started my first toe-up sock; I’ve always made them cuff-down so this is a bit of a change, but so far so good! Hoping to finish 2 pairs this month.

  83. Kellyon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:56 am

    Happy Socktoberfest Lolly!!!!
I’ve cast on for the TTL mystery socks, how could you not and I hope to have some time to knit a few pairs of baby socks too before the end of the month.

  84. Annetteon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:57 am

Well then. I should use this month to launch the sock knitting I’ve been meaning to do. I’ve only knit one pair. Ever. But I keep buying sock yarn like it’s going out of style! So in honor of Socktoberfest, I will cast on a new pair. :)

  85. Word Lilyon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:58 am

I’m working on the 2nd sock for my first pair of Man Socks today.

  86. Dianeon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:01 am

I’ve been away from socks for awhile but Soctoberfest seems like a good reason to get back to them.

  87. Bobinskaon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:06 am

Oh happy day. Began my day with a pair of socks!

  88. Kristynon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:08 am

Yeah Socktoberfest is here!! I am planning on finishing up my Summertime Socks (just in time for 30 degree weather) and I am going to do the myster KAL again this year.

  89. claireon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:12 am

I tried to swear off socks this year, seriously, it’s an addiction. I managed to squeeze out 4 sweaters and a bunch of hats and shawls and scarves, and then Sock Summit happened and I got in by lottery, and then I just fell into making socks again. Just finished Yarnissima’s Basilco last night, and a CookieA Moselle last week and have about 8914 more socks in my queue. sigh. I surrender, Lolly

  90. Aineon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:13 am

I’m getting ready to start a fairly plain pair of socks with some awesome yarn I’ve been saving until now.

  91. Vikion 01 Oct 2009 at 11:15 am

I’ve cast on the mystery sock and also hope to finish two “second” socks this soctober.

  92. .: tani :.on 01 Oct 2009 at 11:17 am

Five years?!? Amazing! I for one celebrate socktoberfest all year; there are always at least two different socks on the needles. I forgot about the mystery sock, so if I get the chance to wind some yarn tonight, I’ll be playing along! Oh, and thanks, Lolly, for keeping socktoberfest alive…now my lys is celebrating with sock yarn sales!!

  93. Meganon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:18 am

I cast on for the Through The Loops mystery sock at 1am. I was going to wait until today, but I just couldn’t resist! I think I’ll be done with clue 1 for the first sock today, so I’ll be all caught up by Monday. I did it last year (both patterns) and I had so much fun. I think I’ll also start a new subway commute sock for October.

  94. inglesidebelleon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:19 am

Big excitement here – I’m in the middle of writing my first sock pattern! I did the actual designing over five years ago when I knit the socks for my dh. It seems that there’s somewhat of a dearth of sock patterns for men, so I decided to add mine to the group. Filey should be published in a day or so. Although it’s a men’s pattern, it can be made smaller for women.

I do have a pair on the needles, too! Red Brick Road by Wendy Johnson, although mine will be Denim Brick Road. I’m using stash yarn from A Piece of Vermont.

  95. Breannaon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:20 am

oh my goodness, so many unfinished socks! hopefully, by the end of the month, three plain pairs of socks, the second sock of “Twining Vines”, those monkeys that I hid at the bottom of the afghan yarn, and probably at least three more that I haven’t found yet will be finished! But what are you planning on?

  96. Hannahon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:33 am

I just finished a pair of socks and my needles are sitting sad and empty on the table. I’ll be starting on a pair of socks for my daughter who has managed to grow out of all the socks i knit her last year. And then, if I still have time, I think I’ll cast on for another pair for myself. I so love handknit socks!

    Hooray Socktoberfest! :D

  97. AndreaLeaon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:35 am

I’ve been anxiously waiting to cast on the TTL Mystery Socks today! This is my 2nd Socktoberfest and hopefully there will be many more to come. =D

  98. Brandyon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:36 am

I’m going to be finishing up a pair of socks (hibernating due to second sock syndrome) that I started wayyyy back in february. I’m also going to be knitting my wee babe some socks to keep her tootsies warm this fall and winter.

  99. Sarahon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:43 am

I’m casting on Christmas Pomatomuses for my mama. I’m definitely on a sock kick this year–I just cast off on a simple pair yesterday.

I’m still working away on my Hedgerow socks (Knitter’s Review) in Trekking pro natura. These are my lunch time knitting. I’ve completed sock one and am half-way down the leg on sock two. It may take my all of Socktoberfest as these are strictly lunch knitting at work and I have a sweater at home to knit and other projects in the queue. Socktobervest comes once a year, but I always seem to have some sock or other on the needles. I have an emergency sock in my husband’s car just in case I run out of knitting.

  101. Nildaon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:43 am

This is my first Socktoberfest and this morning I finished a pair I started last month and cast on another pair. I also plan on knitting the Through the Loops mystery socks this month and have already downloaded the first clue.

  102. Carolynon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:53 am

Ok, I am in. I have been a lazy socktoberfester…might as well cast on for some christmas gift…and finish the socks on the needles.

  103. Celesteon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:54 am

I currently have two pairs on needles: the Masonic Lodge Socks in Austermann Step for my husband and some knee socks in Knit Picks Felici for a dear friend.

  104. maion 01 Oct 2009 at 11:58 am

oh how pretty! i’m on a yarn diet, so no need to include me in the contest, but i’ll be knitting kirsten’s mystery socks! :)

  105. Staceyon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:02 pm

I’m hoping that I can finish off all of the started pairs I have sitting around.

  106. mzundercoveron 01 Oct 2009 at 12:02 pm

oh yay! i need to finish the Treads socks (Rav link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/treads-3) for my honey, and a pair of self striping socks for me … both pairs were started in JUNE!

  107. Monion 01 Oct 2009 at 12:04 pm

Happy Socktoberfest! Five years?!? I can’t believe how quickly time flies. I will be knitting gift socks for my MIL and Mom. I’m on a sock-knitting roll these days :)

  108. Kellyon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:08 pm

Today I’m starting my very first pair of socks, ever. I have pretty easy goals for Socktoberfest – two pairs completed. I haven’t picked out yarn for the second pair yet, but your lovely little prize offering would be perfect!!!

I’m very excited that I’ve caught the knitting bug!!

  109. Breeon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:09 pm

I’m so excited to get some socks knit this october! I’ve been super cold this year and I can’t wait to have some more hand knit socks to keep me warm! I will have to take a little break from knitting socks for my wedding coming up!

  110. Tallyon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:13 pm

No, I’m not knitting socks right now, but restarted my fall-leave-scarf.
But I like your blog and it is so faszinating to see all this interest in knitting socks.
The yarn is beautiful and I would love to have it in my hand and on my needles.
    Happy festival!
    Tally

  111. Jo Anneon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:23 pm

I am debating whether I should get more of the yarn I bought for the mystery sock (thought it would be enough but now I don’t think so) or changing to another yarn. I am also wondering why I am planning to start another sock when I have 4-5 other single socks in various stages.

  112. Sherion 01 Oct 2009 at 12:30 pm

Hurray! It is finally here. I have some beautiful yarn and am spending the day looking at sock patterns to decide which to start.

  113. Joyateeon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:36 pm

This is my first year for Socktoberfest. Before I heard of such a thing as socktoberfest, I knit my first pair of socks last year–around October. :) In the wee hours of the night, I cast-on for Kai-Mei (one of Cookie A’s patterns) & I plan on casting on for the Mystery KAL, too. Hopefully I’ll finish both this month. I know that’s already too much for me, but thanks for creating Socktoberfest! :)

  114. Melissa A.on 01 Oct 2009 at 12:37 pm

I’m still not entirely sure what I’m making, but I’ll figure it out this weekend. I know I’ll start those Christmas socks anyway.

  115. katieon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:38 pm

Ooh, I’m hoping to finish my first pair of knee socks!

  116. Kristaon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:42 pm

I am! I have so many sock patterns that I want to start this month, as well as a pair that have been on my needles for waaaaaay too long. Can’t wait!!!!

  117. Kristenon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:50 pm

I knew it was October, but I’d completely forgotten about Socktoberfest. What a perfect excuse to start a pair of socks. Also, what a perfect excuse to knit instead of cleaning the house, especially in this chilly fall weather. Enabler!

  118. beckyon 01 Oct 2009 at 12:52 pm

I’m wearing last year’s Mystery Sockalong socks AND starting to knit this year’s! YAY!

  119. Mistyon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:13 pm

I’ve never done Socktoberfest before, but it’s a great time to start! I’ve got a pair of socks on the needles from last year that I really ought to finish or frog, since I’m not entirely in love with them. I’ll start that tonight!

  120. Ammieon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:18 pm

So fun! Yes, I am doing all of the three: casting on today, finishing socks I’ve been working on for the better part of the year, and hoping to finish them ASAP so I can reassign my size 4 needles to ThroughtheLoops’ Mystery Sock!

  121. Laraon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:20 pm

I have two skeins of sock yarn that have been mocking me, whispering at me to make them into some knee socks. Design ideas have been floating through my head. I either have to hide the sock yarn deep in a basket and try to forget about it or I have to cast on and start designing these socks on the needles. Well, it’s Socktoberfest! Guess which one I will be doing? :) Yay for knee socks! Festive, colorful, fun knee socks!

  122. Melanieon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:28 pm

it seems that socks are the only type of project i desire to start AND finish these days… right now i’ve got a pair of ‘Cookie A’s Summer Sox’ OTN – had hoped to finish them before the end of summer, but alas that has not happened yet :( as i said though, of all 4 WIPs i’ve got on the go, these socks are the only one i feel inspired to work away on!

    yay socktoberfest :)

  123. Ninaon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:30 pm

I’m plugging my way through a pair for the boyfriend, and then making matches for two different orphan socks in my basket!

(Or, you know, winding up a new ball of Sundara and tying out Kristen’s pattern…)

  124. Cherylon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:48 pm

This is going to be so much fun! I’m trying for 3 pairs this month – one for my husband, daughter and myself. And hopefully one of these 3 will be Kristen’s mystery socks.

  125. Jackieon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:51 pm

My sock mojo is back thanks to a pair of clear Chuck Taylor’s. I plan on participating in the TTL Mystery Sock knitalong, knitting a (short) pair of socks for my two daughters and finishing at least one pair of socks languishing on the needles. The last goal will probably be the hardest!!

  126. Asiaon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:57 pm

I’m finishing up a couple of UFO projects (hats and some blanket squares for charity) and then I’ll be digging at least a couple of skeins of sock yarn and trying my first sock!

  127. Kristinon 01 Oct 2009 at 1:57 pm

YES! In fact I did dig out sock yarns and patterns this morning for Socktoberfest! Wee! I’ve decided to celebrate this year by finishing up my family fall socks and by at least casting on some fancy, patterned socks for myself (a rarity in this house – the fancy, not the socks for self)

  128. Cherylon 01 Oct 2009 at 2:07 pm

I’m up to drying my sock yarn that accidentally got some very watered down Fruitopia spilt on it. Didn’t get too much, but to keep the yarn from getting sticky, I washed it with a lil water.

  129. Geek Knitteron 01 Oct 2009 at 2:12 pm

I got through an inch of ribbing in a staff meeting this morning, and I’m seriously considering casting on for another pair this evening.

  130. Melissaon 01 Oct 2009 at 2:19 pm

Today I am casting on my first pair of Christmas wool socks. And appropriately so, as the wind is whipping something fierce outside.

  131. Melon 01 Oct 2009 at 2:30 pm

Working on birthday socks for DS the Younger who will be 11 in 23 days. (Every year my kids get a new pair of socks for their birthday.)

Working on toe-up socks for Hubby for his birthday in December.

Might have to cast on a pair for me…. ;o)

  132. aprilshowerson 01 Oct 2009 at 2:31 pm

I’m digging through my stash of leftovers to pick out some yarn to make lil socks for my 3yo. The weather is just getting cool enough that her summer sandals aren’t cutting it anymore which means I need to go get some Mary Janes for her – just enough of a space to let her handknit socks peek through!

  133. Amanda Cathleenon 01 Oct 2009 at 2:43 pm

even though I’ve participated from the beginning this year I was the most excited for socktoberfest! Maybe because I haven’t had a sock on the needles for a few weeks, but I’m trying to fight a cast on frenzy! I will be casting on for TTL’s mystery socks, it was so much fun last year and a great way to finish a pair of socks in a month. I’m going to cast on for a pair of vanilla socks in either a new rainbow sock yarn I just received or in Vesper sock in the candy corn colorway.

  134. Mrs. Hippon 01 Oct 2009 at 3:09 pm

A single sock (from June!) that is an inch too long will be dug out and shortened. Hopefully a mate for it will come along during Socktoberfest as well. These socks are intended as a Christmas gift for my father-in-law, so getting them out of the way in October will clear the way for other holiday knits. Thanks for spurring us on!

  135. Mary Bethon 01 Oct 2009 at 3:20 pm

Yippee for Socktoberfest! I’ll finish the Welsh Traveling Socks that are languishing in my bag.

  136. Heatheron 01 Oct 2009 at 3:41 pm

Thank you for posting the link to the Mystery Socks! I’ve been very out of it the past few months with blog reading and am trying to catch up. These socks will fit right in with my current bout of startosis. =)

  137. KimWon 01 Oct 2009 at 3:49 pm

Well, I kind of hate to admit this in public, but I guess I’ll do anything for a contest! I started two pair of socks last October (one simple pattern for travel knitting and one a little more difficult) — and that’s what I’ll be finishing this October. Somewhere throughout the year another pair got started too, but now all six of the socks are in the “toe stretch”, just needing that last few inches to the toe. So I will be excited to complete three pair of socks for this Socktoberfest, but I won’t brag since I’m kind of cheating!

  138. Yoga Witchon 01 Oct 2009 at 3:58 pm

I just moved, so I’m not sure I’ll have time to participate, but I’m hoping. I followed along last year, and this time, I actually want to make some socks!!

  139. Catching Up « A Green Spellon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:00 pm

[...] Also, be sure to check out the October Blog Party for some autumnal fun. AND, don’t forget Socktoberfest at Ravelry! Here are some of my plans for [...]

  140. Malarakyon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:04 pm

I am trying to figure out some travel knitting for Canadian thanksgiving travels! Also I am trying to find time to seam up a garter stitch afghan section that is a belated wedding gift – the garter stitch goes off in random directions and as I join various colors I leave sections behind that need to be firmly attached later… Beautiful yarn, and pretty socks!

  141. Katie Bon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:09 pm

I am afraid to knit socks. i hope to move beyond this fear one day.

but best of luck you to — and i look forward to seeing your progress!
    Katie B.

  142. annrion 01 Oct 2009 at 4:20 pm

hooray for Socktober!!! I’m going to be knitting some mini socks (started a thread at Ravelry) and starting TTL’s Mystery Socks for 2009. It is so great to have the power of the people to keep the mojo flowing! Thank you… :)

  143. Heather Hon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:32 pm

I promised gift socks to my mom and one of my aunts, and I am super-grateful to Socktoberfest for motivating me to knit them up. Good luck, everyone!

  144. LJLon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:37 pm

I don’t know what Socktoberfest is all about so I guess I’ll have to check it out. I also have to find out about the TTL Mystery Socks. Off I go…

  145. TJon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:54 pm

Perfect! I just got a shy “you could knit me socks if you wanted to” from my boyfriend, so Socktoberfest is good timing. Thanks for the inspiration!

  146. Audreyon 01 Oct 2009 at 4:56 pm

I’m finishing up two pairs, one for me and one for my best friend. I’m looking forward to seeing how many pairs I can finish in a month!!

  147. Kellyon 01 Oct 2009 at 5:02 pm

October really snuck up on me this year. Perhaps in celebration of Socktoberfest, I may get around to finishing my Salida socks: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/salida .

  148. Laura Bakeron 01 Oct 2009 at 5:09 pm

I am 50% of the way through my first SKA sock for September and ready to cast on my October man’s sock as soon as I make up my mind which pattern will win out. I also have two other pairs in the one sock done, one not category that I want to finish before it gets cold here. Love your site. Have been following you for quite some time. Not just knitting but reading and cooking as well.

  149. Emmaon 01 Oct 2009 at 5:14 pm

I’ve just cast on for the second sock of my first-ever pair. I’ve been saving it so I could say it was for Socktoberfest. Hoping to finish those this month… and maybe start the next pair?

  150. Meganon 01 Oct 2009 at 5:14 pm

I just cast on for my boyfriend’s first pair of homemade socks!

  151. Stephanieon 01 Oct 2009 at 5:38 pm

I can’t believe it’s Soctober already. First order of business will be to finish the socks that are already in progress :) (small steps ;) )

  152. knitopiaon 01 Oct 2009 at 5:42 pm

I hope to finish a sock today and maybe start on its mate. They’re a wool-cotton blend and would be perfect for this time of year.

  153. Zinaon 01 Oct 2009 at 6:40 pm

    Hi Lolly.

I’m casting on today. As I sit in my living room knitting socks I can just feel the camaraderie of fellow Socktober knitters all over the world. It’s wonderful. Happy baby sock knitting!

  154. Marieon 01 Oct 2009 at 6:51 pm

I’m contemplating how many pairs of socks I can knit before the holidays, and how many pairs of worn out socks I can darn! Wahoo!

  155. hormigaon 01 Oct 2009 at 6:58 pm

Thanks for reminding me that it is socktober. I have a pair of socks that has been sitting around waiting for a few inches of ribbing to be done. That’s a reasonable goal, right?

  156. Lisa from NZon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:18 pm

I’m half way through some organic toddler socks – mmmmm tasty. I have yet to venture into the world of adult socks but I have heaps of yarn to try out when I do :-)

  157. Tabethaon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:25 pm

I’m happily finishing one pair of socks with a fun cross-over stitch with plans to start another pair tomorrow! :)

  158. Taniaon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:50 pm

I am planning on casting on for the interweave “Better than Booties” socks for my son who is due in Nov. He needs to keep his little toes warm!

  159. Cinon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:53 pm

This will be my first year. Sounds fun!

  160. samanthaon 01 Oct 2009 at 7:54 pm

I’m thinking about starting some Sam socks from Cookie’s book – and considering buying some sock yarn off ravelry to make some mystery socks! oh, and I DO have an unfinished pair of socks (or two) that need finishing! I really need to get back to knitting more socks – my boyfriend’s running out!

  161. Juliaon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:04 pm

I had completely forgotten the significance of this day as I zoomed past the ankle decreases on my current sock and started to ascend the leg. I had been feeling uninspired because although I’m really pleased with the pattern and the feel of the yarn, the colors are too much like Halloween at CVS (think purple, orange, brown). But now… suddenly, I’m not just knitting a sock, I’m participating in Socktoberfest! I’m on board!

So… I guess when I finish this pair I should cast on another, huh? I think I have some other more beautiful yarn, more worthy of the occasion, that I could use next time around.

Thank you for inspiring us all!

  162. Emilyon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:19 pm

I’m going to be boring and knit some stockinette socks. I know, I know. But I’m thinking about going toe-up, afterthought heel and the doubleknit picot hem. So it won’t be a totally uninteresting project.

  163. Jenon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:24 pm

I am working on my husband’s second sock. He is so excited!

  164. Lindaon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:31 pm

I am digging out some socks that I started that are crocheted (first time trying that!) and I am finishing some knitted baby socks before the little feet get too big for them!!
I almost forgot the day–thanks for reminding us slackers!

  165. rachellakeon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:41 pm

I am casting on for the Mystery Sock! Hoping gorgeous sunny yellow yarn will brighten up the winter months.

  166. Dianeon 01 Oct 2009 at 8:57 pm

I haven’t participated for a few years, but decided this was the year to do it again. I am going to try the Mystery Sock KAL and am about to cast on! Thanks for the motivation, Lolly!

  167. Miss Scarletton 01 Oct 2009 at 9:39 pm

Oooh I am totally doing this mystery sock! I had no idea – thanks for the link.

That and I’m making Thai pumpkin soup tonight.
    Yum!

  168. LittleWiton 01 Oct 2009 at 9:55 pm

I am kicking myself and making mental notes to cast on for that second sock and then find some more to work on. :)

  169. Heatheron 01 Oct 2009 at 9:58 pm

I love socks but must finish my mittens first. I have discovered that I enjoy my handknit socks so much that I need one pair for everyday of the week. I only have two right now so I have to get cracking maybe I should cast on these mystery socks. Thanks for the KAL

  170. DrCrison 01 Oct 2009 at 10:20 pm

Funny, I had never heard of Socktober before this. However, I have just joined in the SKA sockdown for the first time, and discovered the mystery pattern on Through the Loops. And the mystery pattern is going to be the fourth pair of socks I cast on in 4 days. Lucky I got over that “only two WIPs at a time” issue I had.

  171. Preetion 01 Oct 2009 at 10:33 pm

I finished the first clue for the Through The Loops Mystery KAL, lovin’ it! And cast on for two other pairs, Marlene by Cookie.A and Pepperknit’s Leyburn Socks (my first foray into toe-ups).

  172. Kristinon 01 Oct 2009 at 10:46 pm

I’m finishing up a pair of plain jane Christmas socks for my son, but contemplating a pair of socks with my first hank of hand spun yarn spun just for socks.

  173. Shanaon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:22 pm

I cast on my first toe up socks!!!!

  174. Elizabethon 01 Oct 2009 at 11:34 pm

Socktoberfest basically coincides with my knitting anniversary, so it always brings back great memories of learning to knit socks from Silver’s Sock class with worsted acrylic yarn (even though I haven’t finished that many *pairs* of socks). I can’t believe it’s been five years!

  175. Josianeon 02 Oct 2009 at 12:12 am

Getting back to my unfinished socks would be a very good idea! The timing is great: not only was Socktoberfest starting, but I’ve had to fire up the furnace today… I’ve been thinking about working on my unfinished socks for a while now – I’ll appreciate having them on my feet more than in my knitting bag – but this month I’ll make some time in my schedule to actually do it for real. Thank you for the inspiration!

  176. Robinon 02 Oct 2009 at 12:14 am

I’m fr-fr-freezing, thinking about mittens, and yes, now that you reminded me, going to start the TTL mystery sock! Yay!

  177. Robynon 02 Oct 2009 at 12:17 am

I’m finishing up some WIPs and some test knits before I can even think about casting on new socks. Maybe next year I can do Socktoberfest!

Can’t wait to see what you knit!

  178. Sarahon 02 Oct 2009 at 1:37 am

Right now I am working toward acceptance that now is not time for me to knit socks, instead of feeling angsty, pressured, sad, or loss that it is Socktober and I am not knitting socks right now.

  179. Erinon 02 Oct 2009 at 2:00 am

I am gathering my unfinished sock projects and preparing for a weekend of watching hockey, in particular, the Ducks season opener.

  180. Livvieon 02 Oct 2009 at 2:02 am

I plan to finish a few pairs for my daughter, my mom, and I, in addition to knitting the mystery socks!

  181. Sherrillon 02 Oct 2009 at 2:39 am

I decided to make a garland of tiny socks for the upcoming holidays, using my handspun. yarn. Two done, many to go.

The garland will be for my desk space at work. A boring work space needs decorating, don’t you agree?

  182. Ühltjeon 02 Oct 2009 at 3:33 am

I had totally decided on some stranded socks this year. Until I discovered that the pattern asked for thicker yarn. I then thought to go and buy new yarn today. Until I read a thread on Ravelry about ‘Make do and mend’. I had previously listened to Brenda Dayne’s ‘Make do and mend’ series on her Cast On podcast and found it very interesting. The discussion on Ravelry came just in time for me to reconsider and find another pattern for the yarn that I already have, instead of buying more. (But I won’t say no, when my name is pulled out of the hat ;-) )

  183. Kelseyon 02 Oct 2009 at 4:07 am

My biggest way of celebrating will be to do the TTL Mystery KAL. My first!! I just finished the first clue and I’m loving it! Will be casting on the second sock tomorrow!

I might also cast on a nice plain stockinette sock to keep with me…gotta build up my sock drawer for winter!

  184. Luinelenon 02 Oct 2009 at 4:12 am

I’m trying to finish one pair of socks I’m having on the needles to be able to blog a bunch of finished socks soon. I was aiming to finish them by the end of last month, but had a flu last week and though it didn’t stop me from knitting (mostly the opposite), it did hinder me from realizing that I should have switched from knitting the stole to knitting the socks if I was going to actually finish them before the end of the month. Hopefully I can finish them this evening (I only have the top ribbings left), and then can start a new sock project or two during the weekend.

  185. veeraon 02 Oct 2009 at 4:26 am

There must be magic in October – for the first time I managed to finish a pair of socks! Thank you Soctober and thank you Lolly!

  186. Leonieon 02 Oct 2009 at 5:24 am

I am doing the Through the Loops mystery sock and finishing a pair of Best Friend Socks for my best friend this month. If I run out of sock to knit I might fit in another small pair of socks as well.
That yarn looks fabulous, pretty much my favourite colours so if you are willing to send it to Oz, I’m more than willing to give it a home!

  187. Arianneon 02 Oct 2009 at 5:49 am

This will be my third Socktoberfest and in both my previous attempts not only did I not finish any socks I don’t think I knit on any at all. I was always “I’ll finish this project first and then I’ll do my Socktoberfest socks” and of course being a slow knitter (with an apetite that outstrips my ability) I never ever made it and I always ended up doing my own little Sockvemberfest when everyone else was doing NaNoSweMo.

This year I’ve actually got socks on the needles and next in my queue so I’m planning on knitting socks in Socktoberfest. Imagine that! I’m going to finish the socks I started for my husband and try to finish some socks for my stepson all in the month of October.

    Wish me luck! :)

  188. LizzieK8on 02 Oct 2009 at 6:25 am

I am using up leftovers and make a pair of Cat Bordhi’s Personal Footprints in blue/purple and white stripes!

  189. Brittanyon 02 Oct 2009 at 6:27 am

I haven’t made a pair of socks in a year, but I think I may cast on for Through The Loops’s socks. Will be a good excuse to get going on Gramma’s Xmas pressies too!

  190. Lauraon 02 Oct 2009 at 6:27 am

I have a pair on the needles, that have been there for months, but couldn’t resist casting on the mystery socks last night. I am having a hard time getting back to socks after making 13 pair last year as Christmas gifts, but this is my mojo coming back.

  191. Carrion 02 Oct 2009 at 7:05 am

I’m still deciding what I want to do. I’m thinking maybe some baby socks to use up some leftover yarn. Oldest daughter has requested some sailor moon inspired knee socks to wear for Halloween. Decisions, decisions…

  192. Birgiton 02 Oct 2009 at 7:07 am

    Hi!

I am a third timer and this year I will try to finish 2 pairs I have on the needles (Route 66 by Stephanie van der Linden) and my Show Off Stranded Socks (By I don’t remeber who, sorry). Plus I have 3 skeins of STR from this years Sock club and at least one wants to be a sock, the rest might turn out as neckwarmers…

Thanks for keeping the party alive!!!! I guess you didn’t have any second thoughts this year?

    greetings from Vienna,

I am knitting a very boring pair of Man Socks — 2×2 ribbing the whole way, and size 0 needles on the foot. But at least I’m knitting socks again, after a hiatus that lasted all summer!

  194. Julieon 02 Oct 2009 at 7:46 am

I’m still deciding which yarn to use but the first clue is printed and I’m excited to get started. Thanks for creating another mystery pattern! Oooh, that yarn would make lovely socks!

  195. Nihalon 02 Oct 2009 at 8:18 am

I commit myself to finish a big item every month but I have a colorful sock yarn in my stash bugging me. I did knit my first pair of socks with socktoberfest so why not now?

  196. Christineon 02 Oct 2009 at 8:28 am

My husband ands I are moving into our first home and it has all wood floors. This socktoberfest I will be knitting more socks for the both of us to wear this winter around our new house.

  197. Leahon 02 Oct 2009 at 8:34 am

Warm, wooly, handknit socks for chilly fall days- how nice!

  198. Jennekeon 02 Oct 2009 at 9:45 am

October is traditionally for me the month that I open the winter closet and get the warm stuff out. The leafs change color and the weather suddenly turns cold and wet. The first time I put on my wool winter socks my feet are allways pleasantly surprised, as if they forgot how nice wool feels. Especially those pristeen new socks finished throughout the summer… hugging my feet, kissing my toes :)

This month I hope to finish one sock a week in yarn that’s been out here for a while. Luxurary sock yarn I’ve been saving up for a rainy day. Well, the rainy day has come as I’m home waiting for a backbone to heal after a nasty accident. I can treat myself to the lovely colors of handpaints and the lucious feel of 100% merino or a blend of silk, mohair, cashmere etc.

  199. Maryon 02 Oct 2009 at 10:06 am

Why yes and yes…I did indeed cast on for Socktoberfest and it happened to be for the Mystery Socks! What a coincidence :) .

    Happy sock-knitting!

  200. emilylimeon 02 Oct 2009 at 10:29 am

I’m going to be working on my cachoeira socks I started in May!

  201. Bonnie Bon 02 Oct 2009 at 10:52 am

I have never knit a pair of socks. It is something I would like to try and your beautiful yarn would give me the push I need to get started.

  202. Claudiaon 02 Oct 2009 at 11:07 am

I’ve got last month’s SKA:Sockdown socks on the go, handspun socks to knit for the husband, and I’m definitely doing the TTL socks again this year (hopefully it won’t take me six months to finish 2009’s pair!)

  203. Claireon 02 Oct 2009 at 11:50 am

Can’t decide where to start! Too much yarn to choose from! Should I do stripes or lace or plain vanilla socks? I will make socks… Maybe a little pair for my DD? Who knows?!?!?!

  204. Anneon 02 Oct 2009 at 12:07 pm

I can’t wait to cast on for my next pair of socks! I’m planning on knitting a pair for myself and a pair as a Christmas present. I’m also working on a sock yarn blanket so can’t wait to finish up more socks in order to get leftovers. Forty-five squares and counting!

  205. Elizabethon 02 Oct 2009 at 12:09 pm

In reality, I will probably finish the second sock I’m supposed to be making for a KAL started with a friend last March. BUT! Oh, the mystery KAL beckons!! And really, it’s fall, and I should own a pair of my own hand knit socks.

  206. Rosieon 02 Oct 2009 at 12:47 pm

I actually already started a pair of socks. I couldn’t wait! I’m want to knit a Cat Bordhi pattern and a Cookie A pattern this month, since I have never done either!

  207. Lauraon 02 Oct 2009 at 2:13 pm

Well, I almost forgot about Socktoberfest, but I AM starting a pair of socks! My knitting group is doing a Nancy Bush knitalong and I’m making a pair of Welsh Country Socks in orange and cream.

  208. Kelley (smallwhitedog)on 02 Oct 2009 at 2:38 pm

I am finishing up a pair of Komet socks by Stephanie van der Linden for the Sock kit swap on ravelry. They are due on Oct. 31. The yarn is Kraemer Sterling in white. I love the pattern, but I am kind of ambivalent about the yarn.

  209. Redon 02 Oct 2009 at 2:42 pm

I am dreaming of Cat Bordhi’s new book and the Mystery Sock but am instead working on a sweater that I can’t seem to put down!

  210. Chandleron 02 Oct 2009 at 3:12 pm

Well, I’m not sure I’ll be able to bring myself to knit that first sock just yet…I have sock issues…but your photos are lovely, and congrats on the fifth Socktoberfest! I’ll be sockin’ out in spirit!

  211. sammon 02 Oct 2009 at 4:05 pm

We got possession of our new house today and I’ll be moving all the things we packed! During this confusion of moving and packing I’ve been knitting a “Scarfy” in the car, and in odd free moments, and loving this simple pretty pattern. Scarfy is for a knitting friend for Christmas. I’m also about to start some bracelets, Daria and the Button one for two more knitting friends. I’m keeping things simple until we get settled!!! Then I can get back to the socks and sweater and throw and mittens……. the ufo bags are waiting downstairs to go to the new house. :)

  212. knitographyon 02 Oct 2009 at 4:31 pm

To Soctoberfest or not to Soctoberfest, that is the question. Deciding is what I’m up to! I do have socks on the needles, but fall is such a sweater-y time of year. I’m torn.

  213. Lee Cockrumon 02 Oct 2009 at 4:47 pm

I am trying to get myself motivated to finish the second sock of a pair with my own hand dyed yarn!

  214. lalunaon 02 Oct 2009 at 5:06 pm

Just found your blog through a series of clicks (you know how that goes!), and have to admit I’m a fairly new knitter, having never knit socks before (or anything much beyond scarves, truth be told). However, I couldn’t resist buying up some of the Opal Harry Potter skeins when I saw them at my LYS (http://www.opalsockyarn.com/HarryPotter.html) and so I guess this is as good a time as any to give it a go! (I think I’ll begin with my Dumbledore colorway…) Thanks for the inspiration! (I’m lalunaknits on Ravelry, btw.)

  215. Jaceyon 02 Oct 2009 at 5:13 pm

Since I have yet to finish ONE pair of socks, I’m not actively participating, but I am hoping to finish my second sock, so that by the end of the month, I can have one pair of homemade socks in my drawer. Here’s hoping!

  216. ginaon 02 Oct 2009 at 5:42 pm

I cast on for the mystery sock last night. Can’t wait to see how they turn out. Thanks for all the inspiration!

  217. Colleenon 02 Oct 2009 at 5:42 pm

I am definitely wanting to knit the mystery sock but I have to figure out what yarn to use –something from the stash or something new? Decisions, decisions. Thanks for the chance to win!

  218. Ericaon 02 Oct 2009 at 6:17 pm

I am finishing up a pair of socks and trying to learn stranded knitting. I’m sure there is time for more socks.

  219. gleekon 02 Oct 2009 at 7:38 pm

happy socktoberfest! and for the first time i’m going to do the mystery sock KAL! gotta wind up my yarn tonight :)

  220. Beckyon 02 Oct 2009 at 10:07 pm

I’m getting ready to start Through the Loop’s Mystery Sock. I will decide on the yarn tonight. :)

  221. Messieon 02 Oct 2009 at 10:11 pm

I am working on a pair of socks I cast on before the baby was born as if my life depends on it. I haven’t had the time to knit- but I am trying to find time here and there to at least knit a row or two. They are keeping me sane! I can’t wait until they are done, and warming my chilly toes.

  222. Kimberlynon 02 Oct 2009 at 10:49 pm

I am going to finish a pair of Rivulets Socks by Wendy Johnson and also knit Through the Loops Mystery Socks. If I finish those… a pair of boring socks for my brother!

  223. Carolynon 02 Oct 2009 at 11:16 pm

Working on my first ever from the top pair of socks. In magenta. Perfect compliment to the autumnal colors evolving daily. Happy Socktoberfest!

  224. Luon 03 Oct 2009 at 12:12 am

spent the summer knitting children’s hats. I won’t feel selfish as I spend October knitting socks for me. I have 3 pairs to finish and a choice of patterns for a few new pairs.

    Happy sock knitting.

  225. atexasgirlon 03 Oct 2009 at 1:00 am

A couple of years ago, I began work on an original sock pattern involving twisted, traveling stitches, Lisa Fanderl’s amazing Bauerliches Stricken book series (in German), and a Job-like patience. I think I’ll dust it off and finish the doggone thing.

  226. Lindaon 03 Oct 2009 at 7:19 am

Well as I am on a spinning frenzy I am going to spin my forst sock yarn this Soctoberfest! It may take a while but I hope to knit it up too!

  227. Jennieon 03 Oct 2009 at 9:01 am

I cast on last night! This is my first-ever KAL and I’m really enjoying the mystery of it. It really reminds you how magical knitting is when you follow directions and this beautiful pattern emerges from your fingertips.

    Yea Socktober!

  228. Ingridon 03 Oct 2009 at 12:00 pm

I am casting on for the Mystery socks also and am very excited about it! I’ve spent much of this year sewing while my knitting has been waiting for me to pick it back up again, and I’ve decided this is the perfect time. I have some STR that I’ll be using for these socks and I have to say I’ve missed my knitting. It feels like I’m getting reaquainted with an old friend.

  229. LisaBon 03 Oct 2009 at 1:30 pm

I’ve never tried socks before, but I continue to lust after sock yarn so it is inevitable! In the meantime, I’m flying through a crocheted baby blanket for a friend.

  230. earthchickon 03 Oct 2009 at 3:06 pm

Whoa! That’s a whole lotta people wanting some sock yarn! ;)

As you know, I cast on Thursday for the TTL Mystery pattern and I am *so* psyched about it. I never finished last year’s Socktoberfest socks. I was doing the TTL Mystery sock for that one too, and I miscrossed some cables in dark purple yarn on size 0s. I didn’t have the heart to rip back at the time, so they’re still sitting on the needles, waiting for me to make a decision.

But this year, I am full-steam ahead. I am woefully lacking in knit socks it seems, so I’m ready to have my first pair for fall! Thanks, L, for Socktoberfest. It is such a cool thing.

  231. Kimon 03 Oct 2009 at 4:36 pm

I’m going to attempt to finish up two pairs of socks that have been lingering on the needles over the summer. (Good thing the Pens are back on to tie me down to the TV for a few hours a night!)

  232. Sarah-Dianneon 03 Oct 2009 at 7:23 pm

I’m using up some of the new yarn I got in the mail this week! I’m planning on a lot of socks this month!

  233. Sharonon 03 Oct 2009 at 7:37 pm

All of the above! I’m so excited about Socktoberfest. Thanks Lolly!

  234. Marilynon 03 Oct 2009 at 9:34 pm

I’m working on a Christmas gift sock and casting on Susan Anderson’s watermelon hat for our church’s harvest sale. So much to do…so little time.

  235. MelissaTon 03 Oct 2009 at 9:47 pm

Hm, I am definitely sock challenged. The first pair I made were different sizes. But my loving husband wore them anyway. He reasoned his feet were different sizes, so they fit perfectly!

I’m excited to get back into knitting this winter. I’d love to make a new hat for my little baby boy. Hopefully it will look as good in real life as it does in my head!

  236. Rene' Sharpon 04 Oct 2009 at 12:07 am

I am taking part in the Mystery Sock KAL ‘09 and have finished both my cuffs. This is the first time I am taking part in a KAL and I am Loving IT!! I am also finishing off my 2nd Catherine sock and have ordered Cookie A’s Sock Innovation. Only problem is I only have access to Elle Sock wool which is a touch on the boring side. That delicious yarn would be perfect for my 1st pair of Cookie A socks!! I am seriously addicted to knitting socks!!

  237. Laurenon 04 Oct 2009 at 6:24 pm

I’m finishing up sock number 2….it the Diagonal Lace pattern from WendyKnits in my Sundara =)

  238. KnittySueon 05 Oct 2009 at 6:23 am

I just finished up some fingerless mitts and a hat so it’s time for ….socks….casted on last night.

  239. Rphilbeckon 05 Oct 2009 at 2:38 pm

WOW,,,I love the sock pictures you have and the wonderful sky pictures. I’m working on spinning my yarn for my next socks. I’m almost finished with a simple sock but I’m making it taller for ankle boots or just to keep my lower legs warmer.

  240. knittymamaon 05 Oct 2009 at 5:51 pm

I’ll be digging through the old pairs and seeing what I can find to finish up!

  241. Leahon 05 Oct 2009 at 10:58 pm

Believe it or not, I am totally scared of socks — but I am hoping to sign up for a class soon. Right now, I am finishing up some projects started this summer, that have kind of languished. Hopefully, this cooler air that’s arriving will inspire me to finish some of them so that I can start some new projects guilt-free.

  242. Martaon 06 Oct 2009 at 4:56 am

This is going to be my fourth attempt to make socks. From the first three, I finished two of them. The other one, the first one I could only finished one of the socks, it was a clear second sock syndrome, the yarn was pretty ugly and total synthetic!!! This time I have chosen one pair from the book Knitting Vintage Socks from Nancy Blush and the mystery sock from Kirsten Kapur. I hope to finish them on time!!!

Yay Socktoberfest! I am doing the Through the Loops Mystery Sock KAL and I have cast on a yummy squishy pair for my husband as well using Claudia Handpainted yarns that way he and I can both reap the rewards of the month-long celebration!

  244. Meagan Smithon 06 Oct 2009 at 11:03 pm

This is the first time I’ll be participating in Socktoberfest. I’m working on Kirsten Kapur’s Through the Loops Mystery Sock KAL (also my first time doing any sort of mystery KAL). I think the yarn I selected might be a bit busy for the pattern, but I’m having fun anyway. :)

  245. Pam Piscitellion 07 Oct 2009 at 10:49 am

the yarn is scrumtious but your pumpkin pie is over the moon!!!

  246. Ninaon 08 Oct 2009 at 3:06 am

I have just finished my very first pair of socks (for my boyfriend), plain 1 x 1 rib, so I’m looking forward to participating in my 1st Socktoberfest by trying a pair of socks for me in a more ambitious pattern. Love the project spectrum photos, must dig out my slr.

  247. Kathyon 08 Oct 2009 at 1:59 pm

I have finished my very first sweater (last night! AT a soccer game!) and am casting on TODAY for the throughtheloops KAL. I forced myself to wait until the sweater was done so I wouldn’t let another season slip by without a handknit, but now I’m throwing myself full force into Soctoberfest. I want to do the TTL KAL, plus pumpkin socks for my aunt for an Xmas gift. I am over optimistic I’m sure, but with a roundtrip to Australia during the month (28 hours of nothing but knitting), I think I can do it. Thanks for the inspiration.

  248. natalieon 08 Oct 2009 at 8:59 pm

I must of had Socktoberfest on my mind when I cast on the first sock for a pair of Embossed Leaves. It was perfect plane knitting on my way to Regina for my brother’s graduation. Maybe I’ll actually finish a pair during Socktoberfest this year!

  249. Leeannon 09 Oct 2009 at 11:21 am

Oh, is that yarn ever lovely! I wish I hadn’t been so out of the blog loop lately, because Socktoberfest looks like a good time. I haven’t got any socks on the needles now but I do have some incredibly gorgeous sock yarn hanging out in my stash. Maybe it’s time to start browsing through patterns (or write the two papers I have to write today, ack)…
