Blue Skies Ahead
This is the first year when my two participatory “-alongs” have overlapped. I tried to keep this separate before, with Project Spectrum ending in September before Socktoberfest began on October 1st, but I decided to try something new this year. For those of you who are participating in both, it looks like PS is providing some inspiration for Socktoberfest colors and themes, which I love to see!
Project Spectrum’s last theme is about the west – big blue skies, vast expanses of blue water, the shift towards autumn weather in the northern hemisphere – and one of my favorite ways to exercise my PS creativity continues to be through my camera lens…
The leaves are changing and the oranges, reds, and yellows look particularly striking with such a brilliant blue backdrop, don’t they?
As in the first theme this year, I was trying to capture my WEST: where I am in space and time at the moment and snapping photos looking westward. It is an interesting way to orient yourself and to just notice the small subtleties and beauties around us. Try it!
Stopped at the traffic light – heading west – and in awe of the sky overhead.
Passenger seat photography – heading west in the car and snapping in TV mode.
(For comparison, check out how this looks in AV mode – the magic of the camera!)
Only a few more weeks in this round of Project Spectrum – this year has flown right by! It isn’t too late to play around with the last theme, so feel free to join us!

So, it seems that all I have to do to get a few hundred comments is put up a contest post
You know, you can comment without a contest too! Thanks for all the Socktoberfest updates – it seems like we have quite an exciting month ahead, and I look forward to keeping up with you all through your blogs, the Ravelry group, and the Flickr photo page. Show off those socks!
…and the winner of the lovely blue/green ShiBui sock yarn is…

Wow, I love that first picture of the trees and sky. Very beautiful.
As always, your photography is stunning! Thanks for having a contest, by the way. Nothing like a little free yarn to bring us knitters out of the woodwork!
As usual, your pictures are beautiful! After a few grey days in a row, it’s nice to see such gorgeous blue skies!
You go with your mad photography skillz! Are there marvelous blue socks on the horizon?
heh, contests always bring out those lurkers!
those sky photos are gorgeous!
Your photos are often amazing, but the last one in this post is so free and moving. Exquisite inspiration for a painting – I’ll have to try out that TV mode!
Oooh, I totally dig that TV mode photo. Interestingly, I just put up a post of 7 photos of San Francisco fog (http://morewithles.wordpress.com/2009/10/04/san-francisco-fog-seven-ways/). I hadn’t originally thought of it with respect to Project Spectrum’s westward theme, but now I realize it’s perfect.
Wow, what a difference the mode made! Thanks for the comparison picture, I might have to dig out my camera and play with it a little

I am originally from the DC area (Fairfax County) and *so* miss a gorgeous mid-Atlantic autumn! The (few) trees here in London just can’t compare (especially when, more often than not, there’s no blue sky to complement them) – great photos!
Well, I’ll comment a day late and a dollar short anyway. I cast on TTL’s mystery sock last Thursday and am also working on a pair of garter rib socks (in ShiBui Sock, no less) so I have something semi-mindless to work on while watching hockey. Tis the season!
That first picture is just beautiful! I love the clouds and the leaves and how *blue* the sky is. I haven’t been participating in Project Spectrum, but I think I’m going to hunt down some blue yarn for a pair of Socktoberfest socks.
Thanks for the contest and congratulations to Hannah! Your phots are beautiful. We rarely get such beautiful skys here in Southern Califoria.
Those photos are gorgeous and I esp. love the one in TV mode (I checked out the AV mode pic) what a difference! Beautiful skies!!!
West is my favorite direction! Looking forward to what you knit up!
We drove out to Thurmont on Sunday and I was surpised to see how green it still was. It was a beautiful day, but no autumn colors on the trees yet.
I love the movement in the last photo.
I just looked west – I see San Francisco across the bay. Its hazy and the sky is not nearly as blue as I’d like to see it.
I love the bright blue skies of Autumn! Certainly been missing them here in Western PA, its been raining so much! But when the sun comes out, its that much better.
I just love your photos! I have a digital SLR camera too and your photos and comments on how you achieved them have helped and inspired me so much! thanky for sharing!
Love your photos! Someday I will be as good a photographer as you, you really have a good eye.
I used to religiously follow your blog a few years back but kind of stopped reading knitting blogs. I was so excited when I came back to read yours again and found out you have gone vegan! Excellent choice if I do say so myself!
I would love to hear your thoughts on the vegan yarn options out there.

Great photos, as always. I’m loving this time of year, took a drive today just to get some good pics of peak color around here- it’s stunning out there right about now!
such gorgeous skies in these photos, lolly! your photostream has been such an inspiration lately… really beautiful work!
