So many inches of stockinette for the body and the sleeves – when I finally reached the colorwork portion, it felt like a celebration!  Of course, the colorwork is *also* stockinette, but it’s about the introduction of that new color into the mix that just brings the excitement level to a pinnacle!

Sleeve progress

I had a little trouble with the color combinations on this sweater – I originally planned the navy main color with the ivory accent with a turquoise.  However, my local yarn shop could not order the turquoise as it was now discontinued (::sad face::) but I put on a positive spin and decided to go with this blue/green color for my other accent color.

Now that it is working up, I am very happy with my choice.  I think it evokes a mood that I wanted with this sweater ~ wintery, classic with a modern touch, and memorable.  Although I haven’t been to Vancouver yet, it somehow seems like these colors will really “work” there – the deep blue with the blue green, reminiscent of the ocean and the nearby mountains.

23 days till the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics!

…and 25 days before my plane lands in Vancouver, so just as long to get this sweater off the needles! … it looks plausible!  I am going to try my hardest!

If you are starting to get excited about the games too, it would be great to see you in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Ravelry group!   We are chatting about meetups in Vancouver, athlete news, as well as what you are planning to work on while watching games and competitions… it’s a grand ol’ time and it would be lovely to see you there!

Oh, you’ll love Vancouver! We took a trip there this fall… great place..so pretty, great food, nice people. I love Canada :)

OMG — I *love* it. I am so impressed with this dual project. What a special, special way to celebrate the Olympics — you’ll always remember it and knitting will always be part of that memory!!

i live in vancouver (well, a suburb — but we are a venue city too!) and those colours will work fabulously!

i have my issues with vanoc (vancouver organizing committee) and the ioc, but i truly hope that all the athletes and visitors have a wonderful time here during the olympics. i also hope that it cools off enough for you to wear your beautiful sweater! (we are having an el nino winter this year, which means unseasonably warm temperatures).

enjoy the olympics and enjoy my home city. i love it, and could not live anywhere else…

I just got home from my morning swim and the mountains, ocean and sky look just like your sweater colours. Hopefully it will cool off a bit here so you can wear your sweater while you’re in Vancouver. It’s so warm here right now that the daffs are almost blooming.(10-15 degrees celsius!)

Blues and blue-greens… always at home in the Pacific Northwest.

Beautiful work! You must be getting so excited about the prospect of a finished object!

  7. Ammie

Gorgeous! I agree, the green color is a fortuitous change, since it has turned out charming and traditional.

  8. Emily

Your sweater is gorgeous!!! I love the colors. The turquoise really pops against the navy. Good luck trying to meet your deadline!

  9. Lauren

Oh wow I love that blue green shade… I wan it!!!! What brand of yarn is that again?

  10. Josiane

This color combo is gorgeous, and that shade of blue-green really reminds me of the color the ocean was in Vancouver on the day my gentleman friend and I went walking between Jericho Beach and UBC last February.
I’m in a bit of a rush these days, as I’m leaving at the end of the week for a Shiva Nata/yoga retreat, but when I come back I’ll try to find my notes about the vegan restaurants we liked in Vancouver and will send them your way. :)

Lookin’ good, I love the colors you chose!

  12. Lisa

I think the color combination is perfect – even better than the turquoise! Go you, so close to finishing a MAJOR project!!

    It’s looking great!

And of course getting to the color section makes it different, even if the stitch remains the same. Neat to see.

i’ve got my fingers crossed that you get the sweater finished! you’re right – it is a great combination for Vancouver. you will love your visit i’m sure! i lived in vancouver for 11 years and loved every minute of it.

I’m so impressed by your tidy stitches! My colorwork is always too loose–because I’m paranoid about overly tight floats–and tends to look sloppy. Something to work on, I guess.

That color combination looks great–and it’ll look great on you! Bonus! :)

Who needs the Ravelympics? You’ve got your own personal Sweaterlympics going on.

  17. Silverilix

Love the colour sub. It looks totally fitting!
I can’t wait to see the finished sweater.
You Husbands’ sweater is fantastic too. Have a great trip. There is so much planned in all the cities here in the Vancouver area. Have a great time!

  18. Lauren

awww I really like the turquoise color!! can’t wait to see it all done =)

  19. Stephanie

I really like the softer blue/green color. I think it’s a very sophisticated color palette – good job =) Your stitches are so even and uniform and I know this is going to be a fabulous sweater.

  20. Emma

Oh it looks so gorgeous! The design is lovely and the colours are perfect. Good luck finishing it beofre your trip — won’t want to block that in a hotel!

  21. Annette

Gorgeous! I love the color combination. Your Olympic Sweater Project is truly Olympic worthy! :)

  22. Chandler

Just lovely. Your color choices are beautiful, and I am still just in awe of your even, steady stockinette! (What’s your secret? Because I have to rely heavily on blocking…)

We’re just three hours away (or so) from Vancouver, but a world away from the Olympics. I’m so glad you were able to get tickets, and that your wearing custom knits for the event! Can’t wait to read your stories.

  23. elkbio

It’s looking so great! Maybe not your first color choice, but I think the combination is perfect! Can’t wait to see it finished!

  24. Miss Scarlett

Your sweater is looking great and I am sure you will finish in time.

Thanks for the headsup about the meetups.
I am hoping to clear work to make it to one or two.
The one at The Grind would be ideal…

  25. Leslie

How beautiful! The colors are wonderful.
