Fall Projections

It’s inevitable that when the longest and hottest days of summer hit (that would be now), my mind automatically shifts to the fall season.  Projecting to the cooler temperatures and the warm knits to come… trying to plan ahead…

My knitting has slowed a bit this year – at this point last year, I had already knit 6 garments and a handful of other accessories.  This year, I only have 2 garments down, but many more scarves completed.  What I do have:  a whole lot of plans for the future.  Pullovers and cardigans on my brain.

Round One:  the Switcheroo Cardigan (+cowl and armwarmers) and Eyja Pullover

Fall Knits

The Switcheroo (designed by the wonderfully talented Mandy Moore, who I had the pleasure of meeting in person in Vancouver earlier this year) is featured in Mandy’s book, Yarn Bombing: The Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti.  Brilliant design – simple 3/4 length sleeve plain front raglan cardi with a detachable cowl and detachable arm cuffs.  So customizable!  I will be casting on right after I finish this post in that yummy red yarn above it.   The Eyja pullover is another of my favorite Icelandic patterns that has been in my queue for years – this one from the Lopi #26 collection.  I am using Briggs & Little Regal yarn for the body – the main color is this great teal, and I am still working out the plans for the yoke, but it looks something like this.  I like options.

Colorwork options

…leaning towards the gold, violet, and ivory now… still thinking…

…and everything was fine and dandy and I had a plan for the future – and then this came along.  Oh Delancey!  I think I had a dream about you last night.  It’s gotta be that shawl collar.  I think I want one in every possible combination of stripes and solids.  LOVE   …and can’t forget Kerrera.  Love that too.

I could go on for awhile… sigh

What are you dreaming of for fall?  I can’t be the only one…

I’m dreaming of something big (for me) for this Fall, but it is not knitting related – I’ll update my blog with details, hopefully soon. I’m really excited about this thing!
On the knitting front, I haven’t really looked at new patterns for a long time, maybe because I have two sweaters that have been languishing on the needles for an even longer time… It would be nice to be able to wear them, so I know I’ll pick them up and finish them before winter is over. And then I’ll start dreaming of new ones!

I’m dreaming about finishing all my UFOs! But for something based in reality? :) Here is what captured me yesterday: Those flutter mittens! http://eskimimiknits.com/2010/08/fo-flutter-mittens-an-anniversary-celebration-and-a-giveaway/. I want to finish the perseverance shawl! (which I thank you for naming it that because I can finally spell the word! I think! :) ) I am also a little frightened of some of the upcoming sock projects I am going to take on. :) Love what you have planned, and I look forward to seeing these knitted!

Metro from the new Twist collective! Only one for now as I am going back to work! Though.. that convertible sweater has had my eye for a while, and I have a lot of stash to go through!

Once I finish the sweater I have on the needles that is a birthday gift due for late September, I’m hoping to cast on for Lauren by Ann Weaver, and Estelle by Linda Down. I think they’ll both make great additions to my wardrobe.

That red yarn Patons Classic Merino pills like crazy. I knit DH a sweater from it and I will never use it again except for maybe an afghan.

A thousand times yes about Delancey: what an amazing cardigan. I’m not sure how it’ll look with my curves, though. But yowza, what a stunner.

Thanks to you, I saw Eyja on Ravelry and faved or queued it. Don’t know if I’ll ever get around to it but, man, those colorful yokes get to me. I WILL eventually make something like it. I still need to finish up a few “obligation knits” then I plan on making Manu by Kate Davies. I’ve had that in mind for months now. And knee socks. I need more knee socks. Those are my planned fall knits.

Delancey is in my queue too, I love it!

Oh my gosh! Delancey! I love this. I’m loving lighter weight knits, vests, and the new Twist Collective right now.

I love the Patons yarn. Affordable and quality. I didn’t realize that sweater pattern had the detachable cuffs and cowl. You’ll look great in it.

For fall I am planning to start up my own etsy shop filled with handknit goods!

Your ideas look great. i am making no plans, just dreaming that I will magically finish my Lillian sweater in time for winter!

I have a whole slew of cardigan patterns in my Ravelry queue, waiting for me to drum up the time and courage to knit even just one this fall (I still have never knitted an adult garment! The fear!). But right now I’m dreaming of flowy sleeves with lace cuffs. In some sort of soft autumn yellow. I’m sure there’s something in the queue that can satisfy the craving. Now can I break away from Mt. Rainier long enough to follow through? The million dollar question.

    Here’s to dreaming of autumn!

Goodale is my major desire right now, because it’s behind a few other cardigans I’m making with hardy O-Wool Classic and the Goodale is getting made with yummy, scrumptious Sunshine Yarns Luxury Sock! Eilonwy is also making me drool. Just can’t settle on a second colour to my cherished Raspberry (Sunshine Yarns Worsted)… And I may FINALLY try socks soon – my feet have been cold in the mornings and evenings and all my socks are Smartwool hiking ones, which kinda look sad next to nicely knit wraps and shawls, you know?

  14. Jenna

You are definitely not the only one. It’s been rainy and in the 60′s here the last few days (sigh, where is our summer?), so I’ve started thinking about cardigans I could use today. I’d also really like to do a Goodale and I’m perpetually obsessed with Norah Gaughan’s Assemblage. In my opinion, the purple, gold and grey would be awesome on your sweater, but then again, that’s all my current favorite colors at once, so it’s not a hard choice. Enjoy the process. xoxo

I am dreaming of fall PERIOD, it has been so stinkin’ hot!!! I am GOING to finish the cardi I’m working on (having already knit it once in another pattern and size el huge-o)….. and there is still the queue of mittens I swore I’d have done and waiting by now. You know what they say about plans………………

I am totally dreaming of fall, just in general…this has been the hottest summer I’ve experienced in awhile!

I’m mostly dreaming of finishing up and self-publishing a couple of designs this fall, but I do hope to be able to knit something special (a cousin to the maple leaf cardigan I wore last year) for Rhinebeck, if I can find the time!
