Every year (for the last few years at least…) December means that I better have a plan for Kris’s anniversary sweater – and this year is no different.
Last year’s effort was the most ambitious yet (the Dale of Norway Liberec pullover on size 1 and 3 needles…) so this year, I decided to take some pressure off. Plain ol’ stockinette crew neck. Most importantly, it’s a Kris-pleaser, and that is what really matters!
The pattern is the Oxford pullover (Rav link), a Rowan RYC pattern. I am using it as a template, and subbing the yarn with Cascade Lana d’Oro. This yarn is working up into a wonderful fabric. It’s a wool/alpaca blend in this slate blue.
Knitting is a bit sporadic, but I am hopeful to finish this by our 9th anniversary on January 5th. It seems doable at this point – one sleeve and half of the front done… and several holidays where I can curl up with it in front of the fireplace.

I had a few friends over last weekend for yarny swap. What you see here is my kitchen table FULL of yarn (and that wasn’t even all of it…). It was a fun excuse to get together. And while I got rid of several things, I think my stash actually got bigger!

what a fabulous Christmas yarny get together
What fun! Your house looks beautiful!
That was clearly a fun get together!
The sweater you’re knitting for Kris will be beautiful, and certainly well-loved. This year is the year I’ll be knitting a sweater for my gentleman friend, for the first time. I’m hoping I can make something he’ll enjoy wearing…
Wow, the house looks great, especially with all of the Christmas decorations up! I can’t wait to see it. Too bad I had to miss the party, you can’t be good times with friends and free yarn. I’m glad that you’re going for something a bit easier for Kris this year. After the effort you put in last year, it’s good to take a little break. I hope you’re having a great start to your holiday season! xoxo.
My folks got married on the 5th of Jan too!
Last time I went to a yarn swap I made out like a bandit! It was awesome
I’ve done same thing with fabric…and I just come home with more! Aaaack!
Your yarn swap looks like it was a huge success. I love your sweater tradition with Kris. I’m sure your newest attempt will be just as lovely as your others, and sometimes simple is best!
I love you and miss you.
It looks like it was a fabulous night with the fellow knitters.
Kris’s sweater look nice.
Thats it. Call me whenever.
I love the blue of your anniversary sweater.
Maybe if I get started on my husband’s sweater (I think I’ve had the yarn for 2 years) I could finish it by April 1st!
Awesome pictures. Love the cowls too. Have a Wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!!
You are so amazing. I can barely commit to making a *card* every year, and you create a beautiful handmade garment every year for Kris. He’s so lucky to have you! Happy knitting, happy holidays, and happy anniversary soon!
What a fabulous idea! A yarn swap. I might be doing this in the near future or at least in 2011.
What a lot of fun your yarn swap looks like! A great idea. I’m sure your husband will love the sweater you’re making.
You house looks great in Christmas “dress”!
The sweater is looking great, look forward to see it finished.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Like all the other readers have said, what a beautiful Christmas and sweater you’re knitting! The winter is the best time to curl up and do some serious knitting while you relax. And like we’ve seen, knitting presents makes everyone happy in the end!
