Guess who got the lucky positiong of “bringing up the rear” for the Vintage Modern Knits blog tour? I am happy to be included in this group and to have the chance to review and share some of
the lovely projects in this new book from Interweave Press.
No doubt you are familiar with The Fibre Company and the talented ladies of Kelbourne Woolens who distribute the yarn… they have created so many lovely (and popular!) patterns over the years. Courtney Kelly and Kate Gagnon Osborn, like many knitters, are inspired by traditional patterns. In this book, they have put a contemporary spin on so many classic styles and techniques like colorwork, lace, and cables.
All of the patterns feature the luxorious yarns of The Fibre Company’s line. (And let me tell you, these yarns are gorgeous. I have made several projects with them: I designed the Sherbrooke Cowl with Terra’s texture in mind, I knit the Felicity hat in Knightsbridge and I used Organik for a weaving project back in 2008, the Take Two Scarf)
Courtney and Kate both possess a keen eye for modern styling and fit. The book is filled with beautiful patterns that will be wonderful additions to every knitter’s wardrobe. It’s hard to choose a favorite – but because I like colorwork so much, my eyes go there first. I love the modern shape and color choices for the cover design, the Adelaide Yoked Pullover (links to Ravelry).
I love the Cowichan-inspired “woodland” feel of the Maple Bay Cardigan – complete with squirrels!
The Yvette Roositud beret is particularly beautiful, using the Estonian inlaid embroidery technique with multiple colors:
Another favorite – and a nod to Nordic motifs are the cute and comfy Telemark legwarmers:
With all the cardigans, pullovers, shawls, hats, and socks that this book has to offer – I must admit that the pattern that is calling my name – ney *screaming* my name! – is the lovely Madeleine shawl. That chunky lace with the picot just looks like a great transition-to-spring piece.
So… you want a copy?
You can see all the projects from this beautiful book over on Interweave’s website (in the Scribd preview). Before you go… drop me a comment for your chance to win your own copy of this book! Interweave sent an extra copy with this giveaway in mind! I would love to hear what projects you have planned – or just a simple hello! The giveaway is open until Saturday, February 26th. A winner will be chosen on Sunday and I will notify you!

This book keeps popping up in my life. It must be a sign!
You had me with the cover shot. Yum!
My hub always says the caboose is the most important part of the train! It is a beautiful book.
I’ve been eyeing this book! I like the Brigid cardigan as well as the Ajiro scarf, for starters. =) Thanks for the opportunity!
I would LOVE a copy of the book! It looks great! Debbie in Alaska
I *do* kind of love that squirrel one. Totally fun.
The project calling my name is the cover sweater. I want to knit it in the exact same colors, it is so pretty!
I love that beret! So cute!
Love the Cady Mittens and the Erin Cardi. Love them all, thanks for sharing!
I’ve been looking at this book….the cover sweater is calling me.
I would so love to have a copy of this book!
I like the colorwork projects. Fun!!
Looks like a wonderful book. Thanks for the chance to win!
I love the Brigid jacket and the Madeline shawl.
It looks like a wonderful book and one which I’d like to own. Thanks for reviewing it, Lolly.
There are some great designs in that book — nice color choices for the patterns too.
That looks like a wonderful book. I love that beret.
I would love a copy of this book. That shawl has my name on it as well.
This book caught my eye when I first saw the ravelry preview photos. It contains a great collection of projects! The Erin cardigan is gorgeous, but I’d save that for later and knit the Brigid jacket first.
I just came upon this blog tour today–so happy I did. The designs are wonderful and there are several I’d love to knit.
Hello, Lolly! I am a huge fan of vintage knits, so this book is definitely one I’m going to have to spend some time looking through! In the preview, it looks like the green cabled cardigan is right up my alley–a fitted style, with enough details to make knitting interesting but not overwhelming. So many sweaters, so little time!
I will definitely make the beret and the Madeleine is lovely. I’m going to check out the preview.
I love the shawl–not too lacy, just perfect!
I Love the legwarmers
not that I grew up in the 80s or anything!
Count me in – I have tried my hand at winning a book on a couple of the other tour sites, but no luck yet! The pattern I like best changes every time I see another preview of the book.
Caboose??….no Best for last! I love the Bridget Jacket, but everything these ladies design is worthy of wool.
That Madeline shawl is lovely! I might have to add it to the queue.
Love the book–thanks for the giveaway!
Looks like some great patterns!
I am enthralled with the Yvette Roositud beret with the Estonian Embroidery…I would LOVE to make that, since a lady can NEVER have too many hats…thank you for entering me in your drawing…I hope that I WIN…smile!!
SQUIRRELS!?! What is not to love? The other patterns seem fun, too, interesting and whimsical, yet entirely wearable.
Yes I covet that book also. The shawl and tam have my name all over them…ciao
I need a hat! And that Madeleine shawl is also very tempting.
Yes please! It looks like a lovely book.
I’m in love with that hat and those legwarmers. Yummy!
I’m usually a bit disappointed with vintage inspired knit books, but this one is wonderful! There are about 10 knit projects from it I want to cast-on! =)
What a lovely book! I’m up to my elbows in WIPs right now, but a girl can dream.
Looks like a great book!
I’d love to knit that shawl, so simple yet elegant.
Beautiful book; fantastic photography! I’m really loving that shawl and legwarmers
The whole book looks gorgeous, but the Adelaide Yoke Pullover would have to be the first thing I cast on for!!
My favorite pair of fingerless mitts was knit up in Fibre Company yarn, and I have several more skeins of it floating in the stash, just waiting for the right pattern to bubble to the top. Perhaps a pair of full-on mittens might be in order based on the pretty pattern they’ve included…
Wow, something so beautiful has my name attached to it! I *have* to make that hat!
There are several patterns I would love to knit. The beret is at the top on my list!
You’re so right – that shawl is to die for! Love lace worked in a chunky yarn. And I can totally see myself in those legwarmers at my next dance class, too
I hope I win. I want to learn how to make more clothes, especially ones that fit. Thanks for the giveaway!
That looks like such an awesome book! Love the legwarmers!
I love the cover sweater and the Brigid Jacket, and also the Yangtze cardigan. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this book!
Those colourwork leg warmers are super sweet – I’m already thinking ahead to needing that sort of thing, and now I’m developing stranded knitting skills so it would rock to win the book and go forward with my technique study!
I love the cover sweater!
Hope I squeezed in for a chance at the book! I love those cables!!!
