Social Network

Project Spectrum and social media go hand-in-hand.  It is a perfect match when you consider that a large pillar of Project Spectrum is community-building.  In this online environment, the tools that help build our community are these social media outlets!  Ravelry and Flickr have been big parts of Project Spectrum from the beginning – but now there are two new kids on the block:

Tumblr

…the easiest blog you ever did see…

Tumblr is a blog software that does all the work for you.  You just need to know how to copy and paste, and find pretty photographs.  It has a very useful “reblog” feature where you can view the thousands of images, quotes, texts, videos that others are blogging about – and you can “like” things, or save them for your own blog.  Essentially, you create your own inspiration blog.

For Project Spectrum, this is a wonderful tool!  Tumblr provides a way to share photographs, poetry, artwork that inspire. You collect and “curate” these pieces much like a curator would hang things on a gallery wall.  The Project Spectrum Tumblr is set up to be just that: a showcase.  Project Spectrum inspiration central.  Check it out, and you could even start one too!  When you do, start following PS so you can see all the updates!

Pinterest

The power of the PIN!  Very similar idea to Tumblr in the way that you can save anything from the web – but the real beauty of Pinterest is in the categories – or board structure.  You create themes and categorize according to these.

When I discovered Pinterest last fall, I was instantly addicted.  Was it my background in categorization and organization?  My archival sensibility? Maybe so.  It was pretty much love at first sight.  Pinterest was actually a very useful tool in my recent kitchen design and remodel (almost done!) – I pinned paint colors, tiles, countertops, appliances… it was a great way to just keep track.  Project Spectrum and Pinterest could be great pals too – you can set up boards for each color inspiration and “pin” to your heart’s delight.  Food.  Art. Photgraphs. Animals.  The web world is your oyster!  Pinterest is still in the early stages, so you have to be a Twitter or Facebook user in order to join Pinterest.

(Why not consider joining one of those as well? :) )

Project Spectrum 5 starts on SUNDAY!

The chatter is starting – check it out on FACEBOOK too!  Daily updates (Tumblr too!) and the opportunity to comment and share your thoughts.  Please let me know what you think!

I’m super excited to start this year’s Project Spectrum. I feel the same way about Pinterest…on tough days it becomes my “happy place”. I’m going over right now to start a P.S. Board!

I love Pinterest. It’s a great way to organize and remember ideas. I have a page for Dale’s upcoming birthday party and it’s been quite helpful as a place to put things I’ve found on the web. I think Pinterest and Project Spectrum are a great combination.

I just checked them both out really briefly and do like what I see – but I am not sure I want to feel the need for more internet time… But it could be possible that I’ll get hooked during the PS5 though.

I want to try this out. I really need some kind of boot in the rear to practice with my camera and hopefully this will be the thing that will do it.

Thanks so much for writing about Tumblr and pinterest. I’d heard of Tumblr but didn’t really know what it was about. Gonna check out pinterest now!

I’m trying to figure out where the home for my Project Spectrum adventures will be. Do I use galleries on my blog? FB? Or do I need to start a Tumblr? Really don’t want to spend half my time re-posting everything in umpteen places … What’s everyone else doing?

Oh, and one more question: Is there an official Project Spectrum hashtag?

Your Project Spectrum blog is so inspiring! It’s like everything I look for when curating my “color” Pinterest board, all in one place. And then there’s Pinterest itself, which just fills my heart with joy. I’m looking forward to discovering more color in the world, and following you as you discover it on your end! Wishing you all the best for PS2011.
